Hongli had only kissed her forcefully in the carriage on the day she returned. After that, the two had been in a cold war, and he had never been so intimate with her again. The long-awaited kiss made Su Yushan feel dizzy. She even forgot what she should do. Her two small hands helplessly rested on his shoulders, and she sobbed in protest.
However, he couldn't bring himself to stop there; their lips remained pressed together, unwilling to part, until she lightly punched him with her small fists and kept pushing him away. Only then did he manage to restrain himself and let go of her.
With a slight reproach in her beautiful eyes, Su Yushan hurriedly reminded her, "Aren't you afraid of hurting the child?"
He knew his limits and wouldn't dare to act recklessly. "It was just a kiss; I didn't do anything more outrageous."
"But you hugged me too tightly just now, and it squeezed my stomach."
"It was my oversight, I'm sorry. It's been so long since I kissed you, I lost my composure." Despite his apology, seeing her slightly parted lips and rapid breathing, Hongli's breath hitched. He lowered his head again, but she covered his lips with her finger.
"Hey---Don't do anything reckless."
He assumed she was still bothered by what happened last night, so he explained to her, "I didn't go looking for any other maids; I stayed at Hongzhou's residence last night."
After listening for a while, she belatedly realized that he was answering the previous question, but that wasn't what she was referring to; she simply didn't want to cause trouble during the day.
At this moment, she was in a state of great emotional turmoil and did not know how to respond. He did not intend to listen to her response; it was enough that she understood in her heart.
He gently embraced her again, his high, straight nose softly caressing her ear. His voice, deliberately suppressed, was unusually hoarse. "I've tried my best, but I just can't extinguish that flame. Yushan, help me."
She could tell that he had fallen in love; his eyes were full of longing. She knew he was suffering, but it was daytime!
"The maids have already served breakfast and are waiting outside the courtyard! It's inconvenient with so many people so close together. Why don't you wait until tonight?"
Logically, he should have waited, but he couldn't wait any longer. "I have important business to attend to tonight and can't be with you, so it can only be now."
The flames in his eyes burned fiercely. Seeing how hard he was trying to hold back, Su Yushan finally couldn't bring herself to refuse again and had no choice but to let him carry her into the inner room.
The bedroom was too bright during the day, which she was not used to. Even though he thoughtfully lowered the curtains, she still felt the light was too dazzling, so she deliberately lifted the quilt to block him out.
Knowing she was shy, Hongli deliberately said, "I'm not cold."
Su Yushan stammered, "I don't want to see it."
Hongli was very confident about this, after all, he exercised regularly. "My physique is not bad, you won't lose anything by taking a look."
She had no interest in taking advantage of him. Su Yushan's cheeks flushed red as she said shyly, "But I don't want to see your..."
"Which one? If you don't explain clearly, I won't understand."
He kept teasing her, which made Su Yushan scoff in displeasure, "Aren't you in a hurry? You seem quite relaxed."
"That's because you didn't see how ferocious it is." As he spoke, Hongli grabbed her hand and reached inside.
The moment their hands touched, Su Yushan's fingers trembled slightly, as if she were being burned by a red-hot iron. She instinctively tried to pull her hand back, but he held it even tighter.
"You promised to help me, you can't go back on your word."
At this moment, she truly regretted it and whispered a defense, "I meant tonight."
To put her at ease, Hongli snatched the handkerchief from her hand, covered her eyes, wrapped it around the back of her head, and tied it up, chuckling softly.
"And so, it was late at night."
The handkerchief in winter is thicker than that in summer, but even so, she could still vaguely see a sliver of light.
Before she could react, his lips were pressed against hers again. The blurred vision made her especially nervous. She subconsciously raised her hand to encircle him, making a soft, dissatisfied noise. But he ignored her and pulled her hand, leading her into the deep, dark forest.
The warbling of orioles and the low hooting of eagles filled the air. Hongli gradually closed his eyes, feeling as if the sky was filled with flowing clouds and a wave of dizziness washed over him.
The room was warm and cozy, but Li Yu, who was waiting outside, was extremely anxious. His master always prioritized politics, so why did he throw all rules and bottom lines to the wind when he met Su Gege?
It would be fine if he were gone for a short while, but it's been almost half an hour and the master still hasn't come out. Those ministers are all waiting for him! He's always punctual, but this time he's so late. How am I going to explain this to those senior officials? It's really driving me crazy!
Li Yu was so anxious that she stamped her feet. Yun Fang laughed and said, "I reckon that Fourth Prince and Sister Yu have already cleared up their misunderstanding and are now inseparable and very sweet and loving! The prince isn't worried, but the eunuch is."
She had just casually uttered a proverb, but then realized it was inappropriate and gave an awkward smile, "Sorry! I didn't mean to."
Li Yu smiled indifferently, "It's alright, anyway, I didn't say anything wrong."
Although he was indeed a eunuch, it was still somewhat embarrassing to say such things to his face. Yunfang was afraid that he would be unhappy and felt very guilty, so she apologized to him again.
Li Yuzhen couldn't care less about these things, because he had been eagerly waiting for his master to appear!
Unlike his previous cunning ways, when he emerged from the Painting Pear Pavilion, his master appeared refreshed and in good spirits. Li Yu whispered to Yun Fang:
"It seems you guessed right."
Yunfang said with a grin, "That's right, I'll make sure they forgive and forget each other as soon as I step in!"
In reality, Hongli needed considerable willpower to barely get out of the warm tent. It was rare for the two of them to make some progress. If it weren't for the fact that they had arranged to go to the Six Ministries today, he would have liked to stay by Su Yushan's side forever.
Unfortunately, he was tied up with official duties and had no choice but to temporarily leave his comfort zone to attend to important matters.
Although he wanted to spend more time with Su Yushan, there were some things that needed to be resolved as soon as possible. So that evening, Hongli did not go to Huatang Pavilion. His so-called important business was to go to Lanzhao Courtyard.
