Hongli smiled mysteriously and sat down beside him. "Guess. There will be a reward if you guess right."
Is it really that mysterious? Examining the box, Su Yushan guessed to herself, "It should be a hairpin, right?"
Hongli's eyes flashed with surprise. "How did you know?" He had intended to keep her in suspense, but she had guessed it on the first try.
With a slight raise of her eyebrows, Su Yushan smiled and said, "A box of this shape can't be a bracelet; it must be a hairpin or a necklace!"
"You're so clever, it's hard to even give you a surprise." Hongli shook his head and sighed with a smile. Su Yushan smiled smugly, then opened the wooden box. Inside was a gold hairpin. The hairpin's flowers were made of small amethyst beads strung together in a circle, extending outwards. The stamens were carved from topaz, delicate and exquisite, lifelike. The more she looked at it, the more familiar it seemed.
"This hairpin...it looks like an aster flower!"
Hongli, who had been observing her reaction, explained when she noticed something unusual: "I noticed you really like Ziyuan, so I had this hairpin made from amethyst. You can wear it in your hair from now on."
Hongli's words were gentle and slow, each word striking her heart.
In reality, she didn't have any particular fondness for flowers and trees. When he asked her what kind of flowers she liked that day, the first thing that came to her mind was this small purple flower that grows in fields and roadsides, because this flower would evoke some childhood memories for her.
She had only mentioned it casually, but she never expected that Hongli would take it to heart and even specially make an asters hairpin. Such a thoughtful gesture was truly beyond her expectations.
Without hearing her reply, Hongli assumed the hairpin wasn't well-made. "What? You don't like it?"
Shaking her head, Su Yushan suppressed the turmoil in her heart and said softly, "I like it, I really like it, this hairpin is very beautiful."
She had finished washing up and let her hair down, tying it into low buns on both sides. Hongli then placed a hairpin diagonally between the buns.
Gazing at the beautiful woman's face, Hongli was captivated. "Purple pearls fall like lotus petals, autumn waves ripple in her eyes, one glance tugs at my heartstrings, entering my dreams of longing."
Su Yushan found this somewhat unbelievable. "We see each other every day, so how can there be any talk of longing?"
"Yes! I've been wondering the same thing. We see each other every day, how come I never get tired of it? The moment I get back to the manor, I find myself drawn to you." As he spoke, Hongli stretched out his long arm and embraced her slender waist. Their eyes met, and he asked in a low, hoarse voice, "..."
"Do you possess some kind of sorcery? Have you bewitched my soul?"
"His imagination is really wild," Su Yushan didn't deny. She glanced at him with her beautiful eyes and giggled, "Yes! I know magic, the really powerful kind. You'd better stay away from me or I'll drain your life force."
That single word made him unconsciously recall the joyful scene they had shared that night. Her current alluring demeanor further stirred his imagination; his Adam's apple bobbed slightly, and a mischievous smile played on his lips.
"I'm willing to be drained dry by you!"
