Who is the real culprit in Chapter 312?

Unable to resist Ya Tang's pitiful pleas, Xi Lan finally decided to help Ya Tang with this favor, but she was unsure whether she could successfully persuade Yu Shan, so she could only try her best.

Ya Tang had no other choice but to pin her hopes on Xi Lan and wait for news from her.

Although she agreed, Xi Lan hesitated even after arriving at Hua Tang Pavilion, unsure of how to begin.

Yu Shan was clearly depressed, worried about the Rebirth Pill, and there was not a trace of a smile on her face.

Even though the murderer had been caught, Yu Shan still couldn't calm down. She kept thinking, what if the child was born with some kind of problem? Wouldn't that ruin his life?

Xi Lan felt sorry for her plight, and she was still unsure whether she should plead for Ya Tang.

After hesitating for a long time, she tentatively said, "Just now, I went to the courtyard where Ya Tang is being held..."

"You were old acquaintances after all, so it's only natural for you to see her off on her final journey."

Su Yushan's voice was indifferent, her expression unreadable, as if she were just responding casually.

Xi Lan nervously uttered the second half of her sentence, "She said she wants to see you and has something to tell you."

Without a second thought, Su Yushan refused outright, "I have nothing to say to her. Her affairs are for Fourth Master to handle. I have no time to concern myself with them, and I don't want to hear anything about her again!"

Having said all that, Xi Lan shouldn't bring it up again, but if she didn't speak out, she worried that the truth would be buried and she would never be able to live in peace for the rest of her life.

Her heart pounded like a clapper, and she remained silent for a long while before finally mustering the courage to speak.

“Yushan, I know this has hurt you and the child a lot. Now all the evidence points to Yatang, and everyone thinks she is the murderer. But I still want to say that Yatang is straightforward and outspoken. She often shows her emotions on the surface. Moreover, she is very timid. At most, she is good at talking but has no guts to do anything harmful.”

Xi Lan's remarks were completely unconvincing to Yu Shan. "It's a fact that Xia'er bought the medicine, and Ya Tang herself admitted it. If she dared to buy the medicine, do you still think she didn't have the intention to harm others?"

"She might have the thought, but she doesn't have the guts."

Courage is something that often happens in an instant. "You can't judge a person by their appearance. Many people go astray because of a single wrong thought, which has nothing to do with their usual character. Perhaps the position of concubine was too tempting for her, which is why she chose to take such a gamble."

“But…” Xi Lan wanted to say more, but Yu Shan interrupted her, “Xi Lan, I know you’re soft-hearted, but this matter is no small thing. It’s still uncertain whether my child will be born safely. I can’t forgive the person who tried to harm my child!”

Yu Shan was clearly agitated; her eyes were red-rimmed, her fingers were trembling, and she even asked the guests to leave!

Yu Shan had never treated her so coldly before; she was probably truly angry today! Continuing to speak would only escalate her anger, harming her health and spirit, so Xi Lan had no choice but to shut up. But before leaving, she still wanted to say one thing…

“Ya Tang harbored malicious intentions and indeed deserves punishment. I know you have suffered, and I am not trying to plead for her. I am just thinking that people tend to speak kindly when they are about to die. Perhaps there is something fishy about this, or perhaps someone instructed her to do this?”

Having said all this, Xi Lan sighed softly and took her leave without saying anything more, assuming that Yu Shan knew what she was doing.

After Xi Lan left, Su Yushan pondered her words and fell into deep thought.

Meeting them seems easy; at most, you'll just have to put up with their bad temper. But if you don't meet them, what if you miss important information? Wouldn't that be a pity?

After much hesitation, Su Yushan finally decided to go.

But she didn't go alone; instead, she took Yun Song with her. After all, Ya Tang was already on the verge of death, and who knew if she might be tempted to fight to the death?

Upon seeing Su Gege, the guards opened the door, chained Fucha Gege's hands, and then invited Su Gege inside.

At this moment, Ya Tang had no hairpins or ornaments, her hair was disheveled, there was blood at the corner of her mouth, and bruises on her face, clearly indicating that she had been slapped.

Compared to Su Yushan's stunning beauty and elegance, Ya Tang felt ashamed of her disheveled appearance.

Ya Tang was filled with mixed feelings, but mostly she felt resentment. "I don't deny that I was jealous of you, but which woman in this mansion isn't jealous of you, doesn't hate you? You monopolized all of the Fourth Master's favor, leaving us all alone in our empty rooms. It would be abnormal for someone like Xi Lan not to resent you!"

Her accusations seemed to be directed at the wrong person. Su Yushan coldly reminded her, "You should say this to the Fourth Master. Go and ask him why he doesn't come to your room."

What's the use of asking? Fourth Master simply doesn't care and won't even give an explanation. "Besides you, who dares to be disrespectful to Fourth Master? Who dares to question Fourth Master's decisions?"

"So what? You only pick on the weak, hold a grudge against me, seek revenge, and plot to harm my child?"

Su Yushan pressed closer, glaring at her with hatred. Her sharp, resentful eyes seemed to want to skin her alive and kill her!

Fearful, Ya Tang instinctively stepped back, shaking her head repeatedly, "I do hate you, but I didn't drug you!"

She had repeated these words far too many times, and Su Yushan was thoroughly annoyed and too lazy to listen to her excuses.

"Murderers will always claim they are innocent, but that's fine. The evidence is conclusive, and your denials and excuses are useless!"

"If I really wanted to deny it, why would I admit that I bought the medicine? I didn't lie to you about that!"

She spoke as if she were so open and honest, but Su Yushan bluntly exposed her, "You didn't admit it at first, but later the Taoist nun recognized Xia'er, and with the witness testimony, you were forced to admit it."

"But I'm telling the truth! If I really did it, I'll admit it. If I didn't, how can you force a confession out of me? Even if you kill me now, it won't matter. The real culprit is still at large, and she will continue to harm you!"

She keeps saying she was framed, so where's the evidence? "If you have evidence, tell me who the real culprit is, who's framing you. If you don't have evidence, stop spouting nonsense and wasting my time!"

Ya Tang thought about this for a long time during her night of imprisonment, and finally she found a clue.

"The most suspicious person is the Fujin! I once discussed with her the matter of how you would be promoted to a secondary Fujin if you gave birth to a son. At that time, the Fujin said something like, 'If you give birth to a daughter, then you will have no chance!'"

"It was the Fujin (principal wife) who wanted you to have a daughter, so she must have known about the 'gender-changing pill'!"

It seemed to make some sense, but upon closer examination, Su Yushan felt that this hypothesis was untenable.

"The status of the primary wife is so noble that the position of the secondary wife poses no threat to her. Why would she want to harm me?"

Over the years, Ya Tang had always been by the Fujin's side, and she understood the Fujin's thoughts all too well.

"Back then, your children were sent to the palace for smallpox vaccination at the same time. Her daughter died, but the eldest prince survived. The princess consort believed that the eldest prince had brought misfortune to the little princess. She has always harbored resentment towards you and your son, but she dared not lay a hand on you because of the fourth prince."

Now that she finally had the chance, she used me as a pawn to murder your child and avenge her daughter!
