Ulanara probably sensed something, but she had been keeping a low profile lately, completely displaying an attitude of "being content with her son." She merely glanced at Qian Shengyan indifferently, said nothing, and instead reached out to tidy up the small blanket covering the Fifth Prince.
Seeing Yinzhen looking over, Ulanara smiled and praised, "Sister Qian's idea is wonderful. From now on, no matter what I do, I can have Tianshen by my side." She paused for a moment and continued, "Does Your Highness find this little quilt familiar? It's the one Yuanshou used when he was little. Now I just hope that Tianshen can be as healthy as Yuanshou."
"Hmm, not bad." Yinzhen nodded and smiled.
Li rolled her eyes and said with a hint of disdain, "What's the use of this chair? It won't fit when the child gets a little bigger. Children grow so fast, it's such a waste."
Ulanara glanced at Qian Shengyan, indicating that she should speak up. Qian Shengyan smiled and said, "Consort, you are overthinking it. The small bed there can be disassembled. When Tian Shen grows up, we can simply replace it with a chair like Yuan Shou's."
When Yuan Shou heard his mother call his name, he happily made two "ah ah" sounds, waved his little hands and feet, and then called out to Yin Zhen, "Father! Father!"
Yinzhen nodded to him, and without waiting for anyone to say more, he gave Su Peisheng a look.
Su Peisheng nodded and bowed in response, then ordered someone to serve the meal.
The adults all understood that the conversation should end there, but the child, oblivious to the situation, stared longingly at the high chair Yuan Shou was sitting in, with a lifelike monkey carved on the back. He was extremely envious and couldn't help but say to Li Shi, "Mother, why don't I have a chair like that? I want the kind of chair he sits in too!"
Li was already unhappy, and immediately glared at Hongshi impatiently: "What do you want? Don't you have a chair to sit on?"
"No, no! I want it, I want that kind of chair!" Hongshi shouted, then stood up and went to Yinzhen to whine, "Father, Father, I want the chair he sits in too! Father, please make him get up and let me sit here!"
Although Yinzhen was slightly annoyed, he was still a child and spoke without thinking, so he said, "Hongshi, you're all grown up now. You can sit in your current chair."
"Father!" Hongshi cried out anxiously. Even though Li Shi tried to pull him back, she couldn't stop him. He shouted angrily, "Father, make him move aside! I want to sit in that chair!"
Seeing that Yinzhen did not agree, Hongshi completely lost control. He pushed away Li Shi, who was trying to hug him, ran to Yuanshou's side, grabbed his arm and pulled him down: "Get out of here, get out of here! Sit down!"
"Hongshi!" Yinzhen shouted angrily. The eunuch serving Hongshi quickly stepped forward and picked him up. Yuanshou was also startled and subconsciously wanted to go into Qian Shengyan's arms.
Qian Shengyan quickly hugged her son and whispered a few words of comfort. She was relieved when she saw that the panic on his chubby face had subsided a little. She then curtsied slightly to Yinzhen and said, "It was all my fault for not thinking things through. I only provided two chairs for people to sit on."
"It's not your fault, Hongshi!" Yinzhen said sternly. "Go back and sit down!"
Although Hongshi was still unwilling, he was afraid of Yinzhen's anger and could only sit back down reluctantly.
On such a pleasant day, Yinzhen didn't want to make the atmosphere too awkward, so he calmed things down and said, "Hongshi, that's your younger brother. You should treat your brother with kindness."
Seeing Yinzhen's expression, the people at the table relaxed slightly. However, unexpectedly, Hongshi frowned and said to Yinzhen, "Father, that's not my brother, that's a servant..."
Before he could finish speaking, a panicked Li Shi covered his mouth, while Yinzhen was furious. He slammed his fist on the table and shouted, "Li Shi!"
Li never expected that Hongshi would remember her casual remarks, but she absolutely could not admit it now, so she angrily retorted, "Granny Feng! Where did the Third Prince hear such filthy words! How come he has learned these things so soon after moving into the courtyard!"
"Heh, I'm afraid it's not something that can be learned in a short time," Ulanara sneered.
Li looked flustered, but insisted on not admitting it. She stood there raising her voice, about to scold the servants, until Yinzhen slammed his hand on the table to shut her up.
Qian Shengyan pursed her lips and sat there, feeling somewhat angry—she didn't care what others said, but she was furious when they talked about Yuan Shou.
brats need to be taught a lesson.
Although Hongshi's future was not good, Qian Shengyan had thought that she didn't need to do anything to him and that time would teach him a lesson. But at this moment, Qian Shengyan was still angry.
She glanced at Li Shi, then at Hong Shi who still looked defiant, and suddenly smiled softly.
Historically, Lady Li remained a secondary consort until Yinzhen ascended the throne, but this wasn't entirely unchangeable. If a princess's son was a lowly servant, then what would Hongshi be considered once Lady Li became a princess?
Oh.
The dinner table became relatively quiet after that. Hongshi tried to say something several times, but Li Shi firmly stopped him.
After finishing her meal, Qian Shengyan perked up and said to Yinzhen with a smile, "Today is the Lantern Festival. Would Your Highness like to try guessing some riddles?"
"Hmm? Let's go take a look." Yinzhen, giving her face, asked gently, "Is there a prize for guessing correctly?"
"Hmm... as a reward, you can choose a favorite ice sculpture to take back to the yard?" Qian Shengyan said with a smile.
Yinzhen immediately smiled and said, "You're just using someone else's flowers to present to Buddha."
"Sister Qian is really joking. Such a big thing, who could possibly carry it back?" Li scoffed.
Ulanara laughed and said, "That little tiger is well carved, very lifelike. It would be good to take it back for Tian Shen to look at and play with."
"Your Highness has excellent taste. I want that one too," Qian Shengyan said with a smile.
