Chapter Sixty-Six: Giving Birth to a Daughter

After the first month of the lunar calendar, the entire Lion Park enters a state of high alert.

For no other reason than that Qian Shengyan is about to give birth.

But the longer they waited, the less willing the child was to come out. On the tenth day of the second month, Yinzhen received a message that Kangxi was preparing to come to the Summer Palace, but Qian Shengyan's belly still showed no signs of pregnancy.

Another day passed, and Qian Shengyan jokingly said to Yinzhen that perhaps the child was waiting to share a birthday with his brother before he would come out. As a result, that night, Yinzhen, who was sleeping soundly, was awakened by Qian Shengyan's low moans.

He hurriedly called for someone to come in, and only after they lit the lamp did he realize that the amniotic sac had already broken...

Yinzhen was both scared and angry. Before the midwife arrived, he wanted to scold Qian Shengyan, but when Qian Shengyan was woken up, she began to feel waves of contractions. She hugged her big belly, bent over like a shrimp, and cried out in pain with a pale face. Yinzhen was speechless again.

Su Peisheng hurriedly tried to ask the prince to leave, but Yinzhen had already subconsciously grabbed Qian Shengyan's hand and called out "Yanyan" in a trembling voice.

"Oh dear, Your Highness, please go out first! Mistress Qian is about to go into labor! Oh dear, there's no time to get to the delivery room!" Granny Hu cried out anxiously.

A delivery room had been prepared in the West Warm Pavilion long ago, but unfortunately, this wealthy master didn't even realize he had started labor.

"Let's go to the delivery room. Everything is ready there," Yinzhen said through gritted teeth. He didn't call anyone else and personally picked up Qian Shengyan and carried her out.

Qingxue quickly followed, covering Qian Shengyan with a thick cloak. All the servants sprang into action, some boiling water, others calling the imperial physician. The midwife was also brought over and was already waiting in the delivery room.

Lying on the warm bed that had been prepared beforehand, Qian Shengyan fearfully tugged at Yinzhen's sleeve: "Master..."

"I'll stay outside with you," Yinzhen said, quickly taking her hand. The nanny then began to ask the prince to leave first.

Qian Shengyan glanced at Yinzhen again, her eyes brimming with tears. Her lips parted slightly, but the words that came out were particularly heartbreaking: "Your Majesty, if... if it were me... I beg Your Majesty to take good care of Hongli..."

"What are you saying! You and the child must both be well!" Yinzhen was furious, worried and anxious. Seeing Qian Shengyan start to bend over in contractions again, he glared at the old nanny Hu beside him, "How is your mistress Qian's pregnancy?"

Granny Hu was extremely helpless. After considering for a moment, she said, "Your Highness, childbirth is like a brush with death for a woman. However, Mistress Qian is doing very well this time. I checked her, and the baby is in the right position. She should be able to give birth easily." She really had no other choice. "Your Highness, the delivery room is filthy. Your Highness should leave first."

Su Peisheng recklessly clung to Yinzhen's leg, and Qian Shengyan, after recovering, urged him to leave. Helpless, Yinzhen had no choice but to depart.

The servants came and went in a hurry, but Yinzhen, such a big shot, just stood at the door and refused to leave. Su Peisheng had no choice but to boldly ask Yinzhen to wait next door. But Yinzhen refused. He stood at the door, waiting for the woman inside to exclaim in surprise. His heart ached.

Looking at his master's restless appearance, Su Peisheng couldn't help but recall—even when the princess gave birth to the eldest prince, he had never seen Yinzhen so worried.

This is truly incredible...

Su Peisheng had no choice but to bring over a chair for Yinzhen to sit and wait, but Yinzhen couldn't sit still at all. He also thought of Hongli and asked someone to check if Hongli was still sleeping so as not to disturb him.

As dawn approached, two hours had passed, but Qian Shengyan still hadn't been born.

Yinzhen almost broke down the door, but Su Peisheng held him back firmly. He then sent someone to inquire and learned that Master Qian was doing well, had energy, had just drunk some ginseng soup, and was in good spirits.

Nearly an hour later, it was time for Hongli to get up, and the woman's cries of pain inside the room grew louder and louder.

Yinzhen instructed his men not to let Hongli come here, but to wait in the side hall so as not to frighten the child. Just then, the rising sun was suddenly obscured by a dark cloud, and a clap of thunder boomed across the sky—

Inside the inner chamber, the cry of a baby rang out.

As if in response to this cry, the dark clouds dispersed in a short while, and the sun shone again on everyone.

"Your Highness! Consort Qian has given birth! It's a little princess!"

The midwife came to report the news, and Yinzhen was overjoyed. He was about to go in to see her when the midwife stopped him: "The room is still being tidied up, Your Highness, please wait a moment. The little princess is perfectly healthy, Your Highness, please don't rush."

"How is your master Qian?" Yinzhen asked hurriedly.

The old woman was taken aback, then hurriedly lowered her head and said, "Master Qian is fine, just a little tired."

"Okay." Yinzhen nodded, finally relieved.

At that moment, Hongli, with his short legs, came running from the side hall, crying and calling for his mother. He was only wearing a thin jacket, without even an outer coat, and he ran very fast while howling.

Upon seeing Yinzhen, Hongli rushed into his arms without hesitation, crying out, "Father, I heard Mother crying! Father, Father, where is Mother!"

"Don't worry, your mother just gave birth to a little sister for you." Yinzhen was in a good mood at the moment, and he pinched Hongli's soft little face. "From now on, you're the older brother, so you have to protect your little sister, okay?"

"Hongli is a big brother?" Hongli's eyes widened. He already knew his mother was going to have a baby, and now he just blinked his big eyes. Although he didn't quite understand, he was still pleasantly surprised.

Yinzhen laughed and picked up Hongli, saying, "That's right, our Hongli is now a big brother!"

Hongli laughed along with him, and the father and son remained standing guard at the door, neither of them wanting to leave.

Only a group of servants remained, their heads bowed low, not daring to show any expression.

If you were to ask Su Peisheng what he's thinking right now... well, thankfully, Master Qian didn't give birth in the manor, otherwise, if these rumors got out, how would the Fifth Prince possibly cope?

After everything was tidied up, Yinzhen took Hongli inside to see Qian Shengyan and his youngest daughter.

At this moment, Qian Shengyan still had the strength and was frowning as she looked at her youngest daughter sleeping beside her. When she saw Yinzhen enter, she asked in bewilderment, "Your Highness, what's wrong with her..."

"What's wrong with her?" Yinzhen was startled, thinking something had happened to his newborn daughter, but then he heard Qian Shengyan murmur, "Why is she so fair-skinned..."

Yinzhen: ?

"I remember when Hongli was born, he was red and black and wrinkled. How come his skin is so smooth now?" Qian Shengyan wondered to her daughter, then couldn't help but look at the now plump and fair-skinned Hongli.

Hongli was clinging to the edge of the bed, gazing longingly at the tiny baby. His eyes were shining brightly. He wanted to reach out and poke her, but Yinzhen grabbed his hand, so he could only call out, "Sister, sister!"

After calling for a while, the child still didn't respond, so Hongli frowned and said, "Why isn't my little sister paying attention to me? Why isn't she getting up to play?"

Qian Shengyan and Yinzhen were both amused and exasperated. Granny Hu also chuckled and came over, saying, "The little princess was raised very well in the womb. She's fair-skinned and chubby, and her baby hair is thick and black. She'll definitely be healthy in the future."

"That's well said!" Yinzhen was overjoyed and immediately said, "Good, everyone will be rewarded!"

Amidst the sounds of gratitude, Su Peisheng chuckled and said, "The little princess cried this morning, and then the sun came out—it's an auspicious sign! Your Highness, why don't you give the little princess a nickname?"
