Chapter Twenty-Eight: Having a Nightmare

Qian Shengyan was so engrossed in watching that she didn't even notice the window being pushed open.

Yinzhen, however, was so angry that he laughed instead. He stopped closing the window and strode into the room, lifting the curtain.

Qian Shengyan was still choking back tears when suddenly someone pulled off the covers. She looked up with red eyes and saw Yinzhen with a dark expression.

Qian Shengyan: ...

She quickly threw down the book in her hand, jumped up and hugged Yinzhen's neck: "Waaaaah, I had a nightmare, it was so scary, waaaaah..."

Yinzhen: ...

"Do you need a lamp to have nightmares? Hmm?" Yinzhen almost burst out laughing, his anger barely contained. He turned around and gestured for Su Peisheng to take the men out, then slapped her butt hard. Qian Shengyan cried out "Ouch!" but dared not say anything, only hugging Yinzhen's neck even tighter.

He simply picked her up and sat her on the bed, then patted her hard: "You're hiding here crying in the middle of the night instead of sleeping, you scared me half to death, I thought something had happened to you."

"Waaaaah, having a nightmare..." Qian Shengyan saw the open window being closed and realized she'd been caught. She whimpered and snuggled into Yinzhen's arms, "It was so touching—no, so scary, waaaah, I'm so scared, please hug me..."

Yinzhen was pushed onto the bed by her, and this time a genuine smile appeared on his face. He helplessly pressed her head down, saying, "You..."

"Hmph..." Qian Shengyan rubbed against him like a little piglet, but in the end he pressed her down on the bed. She cried for water twice more, and finally fell asleep when it was just getting light.

Yinzhen got up directly. He had to go to the palace to discuss matters today, so he decided to leave early and rested in the carriage for a while.

After getting off the carriage, on the way to the palace, Yinzhen couldn't help but shake his head and chuckle as he watched Su Peisheng constantly giving him those "this servant has something to say" looks.

Even if Su Peisheng didn't say it, he would know what it was.

Well, he did succumb to his desires once, so he should refrain from entering the backyard for the next few days.

Qian Shengyan didn't sit up until lunchtime, supporting her back. She looked at the sky outside with a hint of embarrassment, then at the messy bed, and met Qingxue's gaze with a little embarrassment: "Let's... tidy up."

"We are even happier that the princess and the prince are doing well." Qingxue saw that she was shy and didn't tease her, but only offered a word of advice.

Qian Shengyan, however, was so embarrassed that she couldn't stay in the room and ran next door to hug her son.

Yuan Shou was standing by the bed, swaying back and forth with a smile, holding onto the edge of the bed. When he saw Qian Shengyan coming over, he immediately called out "E-e-e" happily and raised his hands high, wanting his mother to hold him. But as soon as he let go of her for support, the little chubby boy sat down on the bed with a "duang". Because there were too many bedding, he bounced twice.

"Ugh!" Yuan Shou watched as the distance between himself and his mother grew further and further, and he became somewhat angry. He kicked his little legs, trying to stand up, but couldn't manage it. He could only look at Qian Shengyan with his big, dark eyes, feeling wronged, and murmur, "Ugh..."

"Mother, Mother." Qian Shengyan picked up her chubby son, first kissing his plump cheeks, then kissing his still somewhat flat little nose, "Chubby face."

"Ee-e!" Yuan Shou exclaimed happily. He loved his mother's kisses; they were so soft and fragrant.

It was already mid-November. A fire was burning inside the house, but ice had already formed outside. Qian Shengyan didn't take Yuanshou out. Instead, she held him and sat by the window to look at the scenery outside. Seeing that he was curious about the icicles under the eaves, she even had someone break off a piece and put it on the table for him to touch.

"Isn't this pretty? But you can only touch it once, it's very cold, isn't it?" Qian Shengyan was holding her son's little hand, letting him gently feel what "cold" and "cool" meant, when suddenly she saw Yinzhen stride into the courtyard, as if something was wrong.

She stopped what she was doing, which made Yuan Shou groan twice in dissatisfaction. When he looked up again, the child saw a familiar person and happily shouted "Father!"

Yinzhen laughed and picked him up, lifting him into the air, which made the child laugh loudly and dance with joy.

"Get up." Seeing that Qian Shengyan was about to get up and bow, Yinzhen waved his hand to stop her, and then noticed the icicles on the table.

He frowned: "What are you doing?"

“Yuanshou is curious about this, so I thought I'd let him take a closer look and touch it so he can understand what it is,” Qian Shengyan explained gently.

Yinzhen paused for a moment before nodding and saying, "It's better to guide than to block. This is good." He paused again and said, "This must not be given to Yuanshou."

Upon hearing this, Qian Shengyan looked at him with a puzzled expression: "This... of course it can't be given to Yuanshou. Why do you say that, Your Highness?"

Yinzhen paused again, too embarrassed to mention that someone had just reported that the Third Prince had had diarrhea all night and was only feeling better this morning. He coughed lightly and then pinched Yuanshou's chubby little hand: "Is it cold?"

"Ah!" Yuan Shou was reminded and wanted to touch the icicle again, so Yin Zhen held him and sat down next to Qian Shengyan, pinching his chubby hand to touch the ice again and again.

Qian Shengyan tilted her head and looked at him for a moment, then suddenly laughed: "Does Your Highness have a happy occasion today?"

"Hmm?" Yinzhen raised an eyebrow, not denying it, but asking, "Why do you say that?"

Qian Shengyan was too embarrassed to say that he always had a smile on his face, and only said, "I can see that your eyes are full of joy, so something good must have happened."

"It's nothing," Yinzhen said with a smile, then pinched Yuanshou's arm. "Yuanshou is getting heavier."

"Indeed, I can barely carry him anymore." Qian Shengyan cleverly changed the subject, smiling as she chatted with the man about their son's amusing stories.

Before long, Qian Shengyan noticed that Yinzhen seemed a little tired. Considering that she had just had a long sleep while he had just returned from outside, Qian Shengyan urged him to rest for a while.

Yinzhen did not refuse and went to the inner room of the main hall to take a nap, while Qian Shengyan stayed with her son and happily had an afternoon tea lunch with the little fat boy.

In the evening, after having dinner together, Yinzhen went to see the Fifth Prince and the Third Prince as usual, but as soon as he left Fulu Courtyard, he was stopped by the people in the main courtyard who said that the Princess Consort invited him.

It was still early, so Yinzhen assumed that Ulanara had something to discuss with him and went over. But when he arrived, he found a simple banquet and Ulanara dressed up.

He frowned slightly, but out of consideration for his wife's feelings, he said nothing. He simply sat down and asked, "You seem to be in the mood for something nice today?"

"Fifth Prince has gained quite a bit of weight recently, and I am delighted." Ulanara awkwardly made up an excuse. She pursed her lips, raised her hand to pour Yinzhen a cup of wine, and said with a smile, "This is plum wine, which is quite fitting for this time of year. Your Highness, please have a taste."

"Alright." Mentioning the Fifth Prince, Yinzhen couldn't refuse her request, so he readily drank a cup.

Seeing that he had finished his drink, Ulanara's face lit up with joy, and she poured him another cup, her cheeks flushing even more: "Your Highness..."
