Chapter Nine: The Consort De's Summoning

"I heard that your eldest princess fell ill again a few days ago," Consort De said casually.

Yi Hua apologized, "It was all because I was not in good health and did not take good care of her. The imperial physician prescribed a medicine and she is much better now. I should have brought her in for Your Majesty to see, but I thought that since she had been ill, she should rest for a while longer."

Consort De nodded: "You did a good job. Honghui will need his younger siblings to help him in the future. The more children there are in the household, the more prosperous the family will be."

"Your Highness's teachings are correct, I understand." Talking to Consort De is exhausting. She doesn't say it explicitly, but her instructions are all conveyed in conversation. If you don't understand the meaning of a word, you're in trouble. In this respect, Yinzhen and his mother are exactly alike.

Both mother and son follow the high-end route of "you should understand what I mean, if you don't understand, you're too stupid, and I don't associate with stupid people."

"Your Majesty, I heard from Granny Lü last time that your leg ailment had flared up again. Your concubine and Fourth Prince have been worried day and night. We thought that although the imperial physicians in the palace are certainly skilled, there are many hidden masters in the countryside as well. My father suffered from an old ailment on the battlefield, but he has recovered to about 70-80% after taking this medicine. Please ask a trusted imperial physician to take a good look at him. If it is effective, that would be wonderful. If not, Your Majesty and Fourth Prince will inquire further and we will surely find a good doctor." Yi Hua quickly seized the opportunity to curry favor.

"You've put your heart into this." Consort De noticed that Yi Hua's speech and behavior were quite different today. Sure enough, having a son, especially the eldest son, gave her more confidence, and she became much more generous in her actions.

Yinzhen sat to the side drinking tea, his gaze occasionally sweeping over the two people who were talking, his thoughts unknown.

For Honghui's sake, Consort De allowed Yihua and Yinzhen to dine at Yonghe Palace.

The table was covered with almost all sweet dishes, such as sweet and sour fish, cherry pork, and double-skin milk pudding...

Honghui was taken away by the wet nurse to be breastfed. After sitting down, Yinzhen first drank a bowl of soup, and then ate his meal in a proper manner.

Seeing him deliberately avoid those sweets and try his best to maintain the cold and dignified demeanor of the Fourth Prince, Yi Hua couldn't help but laugh.

"Your Majesty, how did you know that I have a sweet tooth these days? This milk cake and cherry meat are so delicious!" Yi Hua exclaimed after finishing most of the pastries. "Fourth Prince, the imperial chefs in the Empress's palace are incredibly skilled. I enjoyed it so much, you should try some too."

Don't bottle it up and cause internal injury.

"It's so sweet and cloying, who has the patience to eat this?" Yinzhen said, though his words didn't reflect his true feelings.

His body language was quite honest; he ate every single dish that Yi-hua served with serving chopsticks.

Seeing the familiar way the two got along, Consort De was happy for Yinzhen. It was a rare blessing to have a close and considerate partner by one's side.
