Chapter Seventy-Nine: Couples Arguing

Wanyan entered with tears in her eyes. When Ninth Princess saw her like this, she rolled her eyes and said, "This old nanny, it would be a lot of trouble for you to take Liu Liu to find the eldest princess of the manor."

When the wet nurse saw Yihua nod, she immediately took Liu Liu away.

"Fourth Sister-in-law, you must stand up for your sister-in-law!" Wanyan sat down next to Yihua with tears streaming down her face. She was truly a beautiful woman who evoked pity.

"What's wrong, sister-in-law? Tell Ninth Sister-in-law too." Ninth Princess Consort ate a cherry, her face full of gossip.

After listening to Wanyan's sobs, she said, "Ninth Sister-in-law is here too."

"Yes, being a neighbor is so unbearable, I, Ninth Sister-in-law, have no choice but to find a quiet place myself." Ninth Princess Consort was sharp-tongued, making Wanyan's face turn pale and then red.

"Both of you are not outsiders, please be my judge." Wanyan ignored Ninth Princess Consort and continued to sob while pulling on Yihua's sleeve. The nanny who came with her wanted to speak but dared not.

"Yu Xiao, get a clean handkerchief to wipe the Fourteenth Princess's face." Yi Hua pulled out her sleeve. "Don't get agitated, speak slowly. If it doesn't work, we'll go to the palace and ask the Empress to make a decision. She will definitely not wrong you."

"There's no need to trouble Mother Consort." Wanyan said a little guiltyly, "I'm not afraid of being laughed at by my sister-in-law today. Since my marriage to the Fourteenth Prince, I've promoted all the maids who used to serve him to concubines and assigned a little maid to serve them. I was thinking that everyone could share in the joy of the wedding and have something to look forward to in the future."

"Who knew that there was a maid named Yao'er who was so powerful that even I couldn't touch her."

"He had good food and drink and was served by maids, but he was unlucky enough to fall ill."

“Sisters-in-law, tell me, how could I possibly care about someone who is sick?” Wanyan felt extremely wronged. “The Fourteenth Prince actually said I was vicious and deliberately tormenting her.”

"I, the legitimate wife of a prince, have been reprimanded in the face by my husband because of a maid. I have lost all face." Wanyan felt truly insulted, especially after discovering that the Fourteenth Prince was protecting that maid.

"Fourth Sister-in-law, Ninth Sister-in-law, which household doesn't have a few favored concubines? It's not that I can't tolerate people, but the Fourteenth Prince doesn't even give me basic respect anymore." Wanyan Shi said, tears welling up in her eyes again. "Today, he actually brought that girl back to his side! What will everyone in the household think of me?!"

Yi Hua felt a headache coming on. As the sister-in-law, she had no right to interfere in her brother-in-law's private affairs. Besides, Wanyan's words were vague, and there must be more to the story.

“She’s just a concubine, but now you can’t treat her lightly or harshly.” Yi Hua straightened her clothes. “Husbands and wives shouldn’t hold grudges overnight. Fourteenth Brother isn’t an unreasonable person. You should apologize to Fourteenth Brother properly and then clarify things, and that will be the end of it.”

"I apologized to him?!" Wanyan stopped crying, looking at Yihua who was still smiling in shock. "Fourth Sister-in-law, it was clearly his favored concubine..."

"Sister-in-law, watch your words!" Yi Hua suddenly raised her voice, her tone becoming much colder. "Everyone avoids this kind of label like the plague, so why are you trying to pin it on Fourteenth Prince?"

Wanyan pursed her lips, knowing she had indeed misspoke. After thinking for a moment, she softened her tone: "Fourth Sister-in-law, if you were me, would you be content with just being a maid!"

“Yes, she’s just a maid.” Yi Hua repeated, “If you’re willing to listen to me, go and apologize to the Fourteenth Prince. He’s the type who responds better to gentleness than force. You should understand this better than I do.”

Wanyan gritted her teeth in anger, but suddenly she realized something: "Fourth Sister-in-law is deeply respected by Fourth Brother, could it be because she endures it?"

The Ninth Prince's wife, who was listening nearby, couldn't help but laugh out loud: "Sister-in-law is really a bit naive."

Lady Wanyan didn't give Ninth Princess Consort a friendly look either: "What do you mean by that, Ninth Sister-in-law?"

Seeing that Yihua had closed her eyes, Ninth Princess Consort continued, "Although we are princes' wives, we are also servants of the Aisin Gioro family. When a servant confronts his master, does that mean the master is at fault?"

Unable to bear it any longer, Wanyan stood up and said, "Husband and wife are one. How have I, Wanyan, become Yinzhen's servant? It is not the behavior of a prince's wife to lower myself like this."

Watching Wanyan leave in a huff again, Ninth Princess sighed: "For the sake of the Fourteenth Prince, I tried to persuade her with kind words, but she really doesn't have the understanding. I don't know what she'll do before she knows how to back down."

Yi Hua opened her eyes, looked at Wanyan's back, and showed a hint of appreciation: "Speaking of which, I personally really like Wanyan's sense of ownership. We are all servants, and she wants to be the master, which is a good thing from a mental perspective."

Ninth Prince's wife looked somewhat bewildered: "Fourth Sister-in-law, what are you talking about?"

Yi Hua smiled and said, "I mean, Wanyan was a very sentimental person, it's a pity."

She was born in the wrong dynasty; if she were in modern times, she would be a dashing and stylish urban woman.

During the Qing Dynasty, she did not realize that not only herself, but the entire Wanyan clan had to bow down to the imperial family.

The only reason she can still act so brazenly and complain everywhere is because the Fourteenth Prince doesn't care.

I hope she understands this soon.

Yihua witnessed the aftermath of this lawsuit firsthand. Wanyan, having failed to gain Yihua's support, went to the palace to plead with Consort De.

It happened to be the day every half month when Yihua and others went to the palace to pay their respects to the Empress. Wanyan once again used this excuse to accuse the Fourteenth Prince of favoritism to Consort De.

Seeing that Consort De was comforting her youngest daughter-in-law without changing her expression, Yi Hua also called back Yin Zhen, who was studying in the Imperial Study.

He acted as a peacemaker in front of the two of them, but the princess consort had revealed the private affairs of the inner quarters to his mother, which made the fourteenth prince somewhat embarrassed and annoyed.
