Chapter 183 Extortion

Hua Xiangyun and her friends are not suited to take action, but the enthusiastic classmates around them are fine. With so many people watching and everyone being complete strangers, even if Zhou Xiaolan wanted to extort money from them, she wouldn't have a reason to do so.

Hua Xiangyun noticed that when Zhou Xiaolan was being carried away, her eyes were filled with resentment.

Startled, she quickly rubbed the goosebumps off her arms. "Luckily we didn't go forward, otherwise Zhou Xiaolan would have definitely started making a scene again."

Wu Yanxin agreed, "I noticed her look just now. Was she complaining that we didn't come forward to help? Will that be another excuse for her later?"

Hua Xiangyun nodded. "She might not be able to find you, but she will definitely find my house."

Seeing that there were still familiar classmates and friends from several nearby courtyards around her, Hua Xiangyun immediately said loudly, "As you all saw, I was still some distance away from Zhou Xiaolan. You can't blame this on me. Besides, she fell because her younger brother brought her down."

Everyone will have to be my witnesses then.

Someone laughed and said, "Hua Xiangyun, aren't you just being presumptuous? Zhou Xiaolan doesn't have that many tricks up her sleeve; she wouldn't pin this on you."

"If you want to show off, this isn't the way to do it. Don't worry, I'm closer to him. If he really wants trouble, he'll come after me first."

Those around her burst into laughter, all thinking that Hua Xiangyun was just trying to attract attention and show off, which was why she said such things.

Only He Ping'an, who had been watching quietly from the sidelines, said one sentence: "Shall we make a bet? Zhou Xiaolan will definitely come looking for Hua Xiangyun."

The students who had been standing still suddenly became interested. They felt that He Ping'an and Hua Xiangyun were acting a bit strangely, but that didn't stop them from wanting to join in the fun.

Immediately, someone took out paper and pen to count the number.

They didn't gamble big; the stakes were varied—a piece of paper, a notebook, or a pencil…

Hua Xiangyun glanced at the crowd and realized that none of them had any faith in her. She hadn't wanted to participate, but now she was intrigued. "Then I'll bet on myself."

He then pulled out a fifty-cent coin from his pocket and placed it directly on the surface, saying, "If you win, I'll treat you to some melon slices."

“You said it yourself,” a newcomer immediately checked and found that there were only about twenty people who had signed up. That meant that each person could get a little over two cents worth of melon slices to satisfy their cravings.

He Ping'an, who had originally intended to make a quick buck by manipulating the market, withdrew his hand. He didn't want to provoke Hua Xiangyun any further, so he silently slung his backpack over his shoulder and left the crowd.

"Are you stupid?" On the way back to the classroom, Wu Yanxin quietly pulled her aside and said, "With so many of us here, how could Zhou Xiaolan dare to tell such a lie?"

Hua Xiangyun smiled enigmatically, "Don't worry, it will be by tonight at the latest. If you don't believe me, wait for me in our courtyard after you finish school."

Wu Yanxin, "..."

The Zhou family seemed even more impatient. Hua Xiangyun had just finished school and hadn't even returned to the courtyard when she saw a crowd gathered at the gate.

The main characters in all of this—the Zhou family—are vividly recounting their crimes at the entrance of the compound.

Wu Yanxin, "..."

Friends, "..." So many of them, and they still lost...

Hua Xiangyun smiled and said to the students in the courtyard, "Wait a moment, I would like to ask you all to act as witnesses and give me justice."

As for our bet, that was just a joke between us. The five yuan I pulled out earlier will be used to buy soda as a thank you gift.

Even if Hua Xiangyun hadn't mentioned it, they would have testified anyway. But now everyone's happy. They don't have to give up their things, and they can even get the soda they've been longing for.

In comparison, Zhou Xiaolan's character is truly despicable.

Bai Ailian and Zhao Yue'e were speaking vividly, accusing Hua Xiangyun of being vicious and cruel, and of not only harming her but also refusing to help her in order to get revenge on her.

As the main character, Zhou Xiaolan, with her head wrapped in heavy gauze, stood in the middle wiping away tears, her face full of grievance.

Zhou Xiaojun, looking sickly, leaned against Zhou Jinfeng, supported by his father and grandfather on either side.

"Are they that seriously injured?" Wu Yanxin asked her classmate curiously, remembering that this classmate had been taken to the hospital with her.

"How is that possible?" The student's voice rose. "The doctor applied some safflower oil to them and said that the bruises would be removed and the bleeding would be fine in a couple of days. They didn't even break the skin."

I remember when they went back to class, the two siblings were still arguing with each other, each blaming the other for being implicated. I never imagined that they would end up like this in such a short time.

Those watching the spectacle from the sidelines looked meaningfully at the Zhou family members in the middle, and some had already guessed what they were planning.

Tian Guihua and Hua Guangzong also stood there, watching the family's performance with cold eyes.

They don't know the truth of the matter, but they trust their child's character even more, believing that the child would never do such a thing, especially in public.

"That's absolutely right! If someone invited you to make a movie, your whole family could hold your own." Hua Xiangyun clapped her hands and cheered them on, and the people who had been watching the commotion turned to look at her.

Hua Xiangyun led her group of friends forward along the path that had been cleared for them.

"I'm on my way today, and I'm not alone. So many of my classmates are here," Hua Xiangyun said with a smile to her neighbors. "There are dozens of people. I can't expect them all to give false testimony for me."

Wu Yanxin and the others burst into laughter. "It was clearly Zhou Xiaojun who lost his balance and caused his sister to fall to the ground. There was no one around them at the time, and we can all testify to that."

"Yes, we can all testify. Moreover, Hua Xiangyun was at least tens of meters away from you at the time, with several classmates in between. How could she possibly push you from that distance?"

Zhou Xiaojun gritted his teeth, "The round thing I stepped on was what she threw."

Hua Xiangyun looked at Zhou Xiaojun in surprise, "Are you hysterical? How amazing do I have to be to put something under your feet while there are several people between you, and to be able to predict exactly where you will step?"

If you want to extort money, you need to come up with a plausible reason. Luckily, there were so many people around me who testified for me, otherwise I would have been wrongly accused.

Does that mean that if anything happens to your Zhou family in the future, everyone around will suffer as a result?

Upon hearing this, everyone looked at the Zhou family warily, knowing how shameless they were; it was quite possible.

It seems I'll have to remind my children when I get back to stay away from this family.

“But you looked gloating at the time, and you didn’t even try to help,” Zhou Xiaolan said, covering her head as she entered the scene.
