Chapter 26 The Black Witch

Tian Guihua smiled awkwardly. This Uncle Wen is really getting old. Even in such gloomy weather, he still asks people to come out and bask in the sun.

And after all these years, he's still as sharp-tongued as ever. I wonder if his children who ran away from home have come back to see him.

Even though she was curious, Tian Guihua didn't dare to speak up at this moment, for fear that the old man would criticize her as well.

"Then you go ahead with your work, we'll go take a look."

"Go on, go on," Wenjie muttered to himself as he glanced at the things they were carrying and walked into the house, "I wonder if I'll still have any good fortune..."

Tian Guihua didn't linger and headed towards Wu Shenpo's house. The journey was smooth from there until she stopped in front of a house at the very end.

"Grandma Wu, are you home? We've come to see you."

Tian Guihua called out several times, but there was no response from inside the house.

Hua Xiangyun noticed that the door was ajar. She gently pushed it, and a hissing sound startled everyone.

Hua Xiangyun said somewhat guiltily, "I saw there was a crack in the door, so I wanted to try it out."

"You silly child," Tian Guihua said without further scolding, but instead poked her head through the crack in the door, "Aunt Wu, are you there? We've come to see you."

"Come in!" A weak voice came from the main room. Tian Guihua's face lit up with joy, and she quickly pushed open the door to lead the person into the room.

The house has no courtyard; upon entering, there is a small hall with only one table.

Tian Guihua put the things on the table and went to the door. "Aunt Wu, do you need any help?"

The old lady must be in her eighties or nineties now. She lives alone and has no children, so Tian Guihua is worried that she might have some inconveniences.

"No need, I'll tidy up and come out. Just boil some water for yourself." Hearing rustling sounds coming from the room, Tian Guihua finally felt relieved.

He told Xun Liangcai and the others to find their own seats, while he went to the kitchen to boil water, seemingly familiar with the place.

Li Lancao and Xun Liangcai wanted to help, but Tian Guihua refused, saying, "I know this place better than you do. Don't crowd here for such a small matter."

"You all sit there and rest for a bit; we have to get back soon."

Hua Xiangyun followed her and observed the simple house. Even the kitchen was very clean, with only a cabinet and a few radishes piled up in the corner, and nothing else.

The simple arrangement felt somewhat strange to her.

Tian Guihua pushed open the back door of the house, where there was a water pipe connected to a tap. She filled an earthenware pot with water, poured it into a pot, and rinsed it several times before starting to boil the water.

Hua Xiangyun stared at the only locust tree in the backyard for a long time.

Wu Shenpo waited until Tian Guihua brought the boiled water to the table before slowly opening the door and coming out.

His thin body was hunched over, and his face was completely covered by a head of white hair. He was leaning on a bright green bamboo stick as he slowly walked to the table.

Xun Liangcai and Li Lancao, who were originally sitting there, immediately stood up and retreated to the corner, looking rather reserved.

Seeing the steaming hot water on the table, Wu Shenpo unceremoniously picked up the bowl and took a couple of sips.

Seeing this, Tian Guihua wanted to remind her that the boiling water was too hot, but seeing her attitude, she began to doubt herself whether she had just boiled the water.

“It’s been a while since anyone has come to see this old woman,” Wu Shenpo finally looked up at the crowd.

The first thing you see is a pale face, which makes the wrinkles on the face even deeper. The dark eyes with a slight golden tinge are hard to look directly at. Only Tian Guihua, relying on the past favors she had received, sat down next to her and said with a smile, "Aunt Wu has come to bother you again this time."

The old woman sized up Tian Guihua a few times. "You are blessed with long life and good fortune in your later years. Don't cause me any trouble."

Tian Guihua grinned and said, "Thank you for your kind words, but this time it's not me who wants to ask about something, but my nephew..."

"She just went to places she shouldn't have gone and touched things she shouldn't have touched. She'll be fine after the first six months." Granny Wu glanced at him and then stopped paying attention, instead focusing on Hua Xiangyun.

Seeing that the witch doctor's gaze remained fixed on Hua Xiangyun, Tian Guihua couldn't help but feel a little nervous. "Is something wrong?"

Hua Xiangyun stood obediently behind Tian Guihua, but she knew in her heart that Wu Shenpo had seen through something.

As a visitor from another world, Hua Xiangyun was still uneasy, because with her current cultivation level, she couldn't see how much skill the sorceress in front of her possessed.

But someone who can plant locust trees behind their house must have some real skills.

Especially since he had just directly addressed the matter her second uncle had asked, she dared not underestimate him.

"Your granddaughter... I never imagined she'd grown so big." Granny Wu's heavy breathing almost made Hua Xiangyun lose her composure.

“You still remember her?” Tian Guihua said with a smile. “When I brought her here last time, the child was only three years old. It feels like she has grown up in the blink of an eye.”

"Hmm, he's a good child." The old woman lowered her eyes. "I know why you've come today. I'm only good at dealing with crying babies. I can't help you with your nephew."

Tian Guihua used her eyes to calm the anxious Li Lancao down, and then said with a smile to the witch, "We came here to beg for help, we had no other choice. The child has been having some bad luck, so we're hoping there's something we can do to help him."

"..." Granny Wu was silent for a while before slowly saying, "There's no way to help, but I need your help, my little granddaughter."

Tian Guihua was confused; how did this get involved with Xiangyun again?

"You and the others wait outside. I want to chat with your little granddaughter for a bit," the old woman suggested.

Xun Liangcai didn't know what Wu Shenpo wanted to do, but he didn't want his niece to take any risks. "We don't know anything about this, and the child is still young. We certainly can't help her."

Then, she said to Tian Guihua, "Auntie, let's go back! It's just bad luck for half a year, right? I've already endured it for several months, things will get better slowly."

At most, he might bump into something or get hurt, but it wouldn't be fatal. However, if his niece were to suffer any harm, he would feel uneasy for the rest of his life.

The old woman's voice turned cold. "Do you really think I can come and go as I please?"

"Once we're here, you'll have to do whatever I say. Don't worry, it'll only do this good for the girl, no harm whatsoever."

Seeking talent, he said, "Then we'll all listen here. If my niece can't do it, we won't agree."

Tian Guihua was also worried, "Why don't we let them go out? I'll stay here with Xiaoguai."

Suddenly, the witch stood up and, before they could react, grabbed Hua Xiangyun's hand and disappeared into the main room.

This sudden change made Tian Guihua's heart leap into her throat; she clutched her chest and almost screamed.

"Where did they go?" Li Lancao was so frightened that she collapsed to the ground. She had only seen a shadow flash by, and suddenly two people were gone from the room.

"Aunt Wu!" Tian Guihua called out hurriedly. People were already searching inside the house, but in such a small place, they couldn't find a trace at all.
