Wu Yanxin rubbed her eyes and peeked out from the next building.
It's made of a few wooden planks and contains only one bed.
"Xiangyun, you're finally back! I've been looking for you several times, but I haven't seen you." Wu Yanxin wrapped the quilt around herself tighter. "Wait for me, I'll be right down."
Hua Xiangyun was just out killing time anyway, so she said, "No rush, you can get ready first."
Grandma Wu then moved over a small stool. "Xiangyun, sit down for a moment."
As he spoke, he glanced at her forehead a couple more times, a hint of regret flashing in his eyes.
She happened to see the child get injured on the same day; it was such a big hole, it was bound to leave a scar.
Hua Xiangyun hasn't taken off her scarf since she entered the room, and she still doesn't know how ugly the wound is.
Once this woman is disfigured, her life is pretty much ruined. In my opinion, Tian Guihua shouldn't have let those families off so easily.
"Thank you, Grandma Wu," Hua Xiangyun said politely, knowing that the old woman was on good terms with her grandmother, completely forgetting that she was currently wrapped up tightly in a protective suit.
Grandma Wu turned and went into the kitchen. When she came out, she was holding an egg and stuffed it into Hua Xiangyun's hand. "Eat it quickly."
Hua Xiangyun felt the lingering warmth of the egg and dared not accept it. "Grandma Wu, I've already had breakfast. I can't take this."
“You silly child, you’ve suffered so much, you must be weak. This is Grandma’s kind gesture. If you don’t accept it, I’ll be angry.”
What else could Hua Xiangyun do but thank her, accept the egg, and tell her grandmother when she got home that she would return the gift.
Wu Yanxin moved quickly and had already stepped onto the ground using the wooden ladder.
"Your wound has just healed, so why did you go to your grandma's house again?" Wu Yanxin ran her fingers through her hair and stared at Hua Xiangyun curiously.
"My body is much better now," Hua Xiangyun said, at a loss for words, as these people had been staring at her forehead all day.
Anyway, she was determined not to take off the scarf before the New Year, to avoid any more problems.
Unexpectedly, her actions led to misunderstandings. After today, everyone was talking about how she had been completely disfigured and now dared not show her true face.
"By the way, what did you want to see me about?"
Wu Yanxin looked away, considerately avoiding mentioning the other person's sad matter, "It's been so many days of vacation, I just wanted to ask if you've finished your homework?"
Hua Xiangyun blinked. Doing homework seemed so far removed from her mind until she was reminded of it.
"I haven't even touched it yet," Hua Xiangyun said, rubbing her head as if she had just remembered. "If you hadn't brought it up today, I would have forgotten about it."
Wu Yanxin, "...Then do you still remember who I am?" Could she have really damaged her head?
Hua Xiangyun is so pitiful. Not only is she disfigured, but her brain is also damaged. What will happen to her in the future?
Hua Xiangyun winked at her, "I don't know who you are? Do you think I would be sitting here today?"
Don't worry, even though you bumped your head, you're not stupid.
Wu Yanxin breathed a exaggerated sigh of relief, "That's good, I was hoping you'd finish your homework so I could copy it..."
Before Hua Xiangyun could even warn her, Wu Yanxin was already met with a devastating blow.
Grandma Wu slapped her across the face in annoyance, "How dare you say that? Copying homework is something to be proud of."
Wu Yanxin turned to her grandmother with a grin and said, "I said when I graduated from junior high school that I wasn't cut out for studying and that I could go to the countryside."
But you wouldn't let me go, you insisted on sending me to high school. I can't concentrate on my studies, so naturally I can't do my homework.
If you don't copy the homework, you won't be able to hand it in, and then the teacher will nag you again..."
Grandma Wu pointed at her granddaughter, her hands trembling with anger. She looked around and finally found the broom head she had left there in the corner. She walked over quickly, picked up the broom head, and was about to hit her.
Wu Yanxin wasn't about to just stand there and take the beating. She grabbed Hua Xiangyun's hand and ran outside, saying, "Grandma, Xiangyun and I are going out to play for a bit. Remember to cook for me, okay?"
Hua Xiangyun was led outside, and she could still vaguely hear Grandma Wu's furious voice, "Eat up! If I give you even a single grain of rice today, I'll take your surname..."
“My grandma just can’t see things clearly. She still uses my grandpa’s surname,” Wu Yanxin said with a chuckle.
Hua Xiangyun dared not follow her blindly like this; the icy roads were slippery, and it wouldn't look good if she got caught up in the snow and fell.
Grab her hand and use a gentle touch to make her stop. "You're not stupid. If you listen more in class, how could you not be able to do your homework?"
The two have been friends since kindergarten, and Wu Yanxin's grades were not bad, otherwise the high school would not have accepted her.
“What’s the point of studying more? It’s still a waste of time.” Wu Yanxin’s voice was a little low. “We can only muddle through for another six months at most, and then we’ll still have to choose to go to the countryside.”
She looked up at Hua Xiangyun with envy, "I almost forgot, you're different from us. Grandma Hua saved the job for you a long time ago."
Hua Xiangyun shook her head and said, "I will also sign up to go to the countryside. When my second brother comes back this time, I want to tell my grandma that I want to transfer the job to him."
"Are you stupid?" Wu Yanxin was a little envious, but she didn't want her best friend to suffer with her. "Did your second brother lie to you and say that going to the countryside was great? Let me tell you, you can't believe it. The farm work there will drive you crazy."
"It's not as serious as you say. Besides, it was my own idea."
"I was willful before, otherwise my second brother wouldn't have had to stay in the countryside for the past two years. He's getting on in years now, and once he comes back and settles down his job, he can find me a sister-in-law."
“Fool,” Wu Yanxin cursed, “once your second brother marries his wife, you will have no place in the family.”
Look at our family, we have so many brothers and sisters, but it was mostly us sisters who were sent to the countryside.
Hua Xiangyun knew this was a common phenomenon; otherwise, the Hua family wouldn't have stood out so much on this street.
"Then why didn't you want to go to high school before?" Hua Xiangyun asked curiously.
Wu Yanxin said, "Anyway, I'll have to go to the countryside eventually, so the sooner I go, the less I'll have to deal with all the arguing at home all the time."
Their family wasn't as harmonious as the Hua family's. His father had four brothers and three sisters, and they had new topics to argue about every day.
She was in a hurry to go to the countryside, simply because she wanted some peace of mind.
Hua Xiangyun was stunned and could only try to persuade her in return, "...You're so naive. Didn't you ask your sisters who went to the countryside? Are their lives really better than at home?"
Wu Yanxin: "I asked them, and they said it's nothing special, they can survive anyway."
However, not having to face the control of the family every day brings a sense of freedom.
Hua Xiangyun suspected that Wu's older sister was just trying to coax this little fool. They were all Wu sisters, so they should suffer together.
