Chapter 8 Deviation

Whenever Tian Guihua thought of Xie Shengnan's angry but speechless appearance today, the corners of her mouth would keep turning up.

"I don't know what's wrong with He Ping'an. He can fall down on flat ground when he gets up at night, and by sheer coincidence, he knocks out two teeth."

Xie Shengnan tried to pin the blame on our family, so I spat in her face right then and there. It was her own son's wrongdoing that brought her this trouble.

"Old woman, you didn't say that out loud, did you?" Hua Guangzong immediately stopped her upon hearing the taboo words, as some things are best left unsaid.

Tian Guihua rolled her eyes at him, "I'll just say it here in our courtyard, how could I possibly say such a thing?"

I just asked her to provide evidence and not to falsely accuse people, otherwise I would go to the factory to ask the leaders again.

"He's unsteady on his feet and yet he blames others? Where does he get the nerve?"

She's old, but not stupid. She's always been careful with her words and actions in the outside world, so she won't leave any evidence against her.

Hua Xiangyun glanced in the direction of the kitchen and seemed to have heard some noise last night. It turned out that her eldest brother had gone out.

Grandpa was very skilled at making traps. During the most difficult years, he took my father to the deep mountains to make some extra food, which helped the whole family get through the toughest time safely and ensured that no one's health was compromised.

Even though they went less often later, the two older brothers learned some skills in making traps and mechanisms.

It goes without saying what the older brother was doing out late at night.

Thinking of this, she felt a warmth in her heart. Over the years, the original owner had relied on her family's pampering to monopolize everything, but her two brothers' love for her had never diminished.

"Yes," Hua Guangzong nodded, "It's good that you have it in mind."

These past few days, when I have some free time, I've been spending time with my old buddies. The atmosphere in this factory really needs a serious overhaul; they shouldn't just be so focused on the factory that they've forgotten about raising their children at home.

Hua Xiangyun, "..."

The two elders were fully aware of what their eldest grandson had done, and instead of uttering a single word of criticism, they even seemed to approve of it.

“However, I do believe He Ping’an’s words,” Tian Guihua suddenly said. “Everyone thinks that He Ping’an deliberately pushed the blame onto Zhou Xiaolan in order to escape responsibility.”

We lived in the same courtyard, and we watched each other grow up since we were little.

He Ping'an is usually a bit silly; who knows, he might actually have been tricked by that guy surnamed Zhou.

Hua Guangzong said, "Don't worry, if it really was Zhou's girl who tricked He Ping'an, He Laicai and the others will definitely not let it go."

"Don't get involved in this. Those two families will inevitably clash sooner or later."

What's more, his wife had taken another hen from Xie Shengnan, which was a real thing. Given Xie Shengnan's temper, she wouldn't let this go unpunished.

Tian Guihua also thought of this, and grinned, "This is going to be interesting, little darling. Drink more chicken soup later and get well. Then Grandma will take you to see them make a scene, so you can vent your anger."

Hua Xiangyun nodded obediently, "Then we'll bring a small stool and sit in the yard to watch the show."

Tian Guihua was pleased with her granddaughter's words of encouragement. She slapped her thigh and exclaimed, "Yes, my granddaughter is so clever! I need to add fuel to the fire so that the show can be exciting!"

Watching Tian Guihua rush out again, Hua Guangzong chuckled and said, "Your grandma's temper really hasn't changed; she's always so impulsive."

I just saw my old buddy received some Mao Ke (a type of snack), I'll go get some for you.

Hua Xiangyun looked at the old man with sparkling eyes. In just a short time, she already felt that she got along very well with this family.

Looking at his granddaughter's adoring eyes, Hua Guangzong was already thinking about whether he should send a letter to his comrades-in-arms. Little Guai had suffered these days and deserved some compensation.

I can use those cured meats I secretly dried before to trade with them, so they won't lose out.

Hua Xiangyun was unaware of the old man's thoughts. Seeing her brother and sister-in-law already sitting in the yard plucking the chickens, she went over and squatted down opposite them, watching them.

"Little sister, are you hungry?" Hua Zhiping looked up at her, his eyes smiling. "I'll save you two big chicken legs and two big wings later."

Hua Xiangyun had been practicing asceticism and should have been free from worldly desires, but in this era of scarcity, it was difficult to eat meat, and she was craving it.

Even though the Hua family's life in this courtyard was considered good, they could only follow the crowd in this kind of crowded tenement.

Hua Xiangyun swallowed, which made Hua Zhiping even more certain that his sister was craving something.

I moved my hands faster, so my little sister wouldn't go hungry.

Li Lijuan quickly changed the water in the basin before speaking, "Zhou Xiaolan is obviously full of tricks. Xiaoyun, don't play with her in the future."

Hua Xiangyun became interested upon hearing this, "Sister-in-law, how do you know she's so cunning?"

Looking at her sister-in-law's pale face, Li Lijuan's heart softened even more. "I also think that He Ping'an didn't lie this time. Otherwise, with so many friends together, why didn't he mention others?"

You know, there were a few times I saw that He family boy's eyes always fixed on Zhou Xiaolan, as if he was afraid of missing her.

Li Lijuan tried to be tactful, as her sister-in-law was still a young girl, and she was afraid that if she spoke too bluntly, the young girl would feel embarrassed.

Hua Xiangyun, "...But doesn't Zhou Xiaolan like Second Brother?"

Hua Zhiping adjusted his squatting posture, looked up at the two women, and said, "You can't say this outside. Your second brother doesn't want to date anyone from the courtyard."

Hua Xiangyun was even more puzzled. The book said that when Hua Zhian came back for the Spring Festival this year, he told his family that he and Zhou Xiaolan were in love. Later, his family used their connections to help him find a temporary job so that he could stay in the city.

From that day on, the book begins to revolve around the female protagonist, focusing on everyday family matters and various ways she retaliates against the awful Hua family.

Once inside, Hua Xiangyun realized many things were amiss.

Does the truth have to be distorted in order to create a wise and decisive female lead?

"Little sister, what's on your mind?" Li Lijuan asked casually when she saw Hua Xiangyun deep in thought.

She had spoken privately with Hua Zhiping about Zhou Xiaolan, saying that if Zhian were to marry a woman like her, they should consider separating their household.

Hua Xiangyun snapped out of her reverie and shook her head. "Sister-in-law, I was just thinking about something."

Previously, Zhou Xiaolan would chat with me every few days, and she would always mention my second brother.

But that doesn't make sense. If she really liked my second brother, why would she let He Ping'an attack me?

Hua Xiangyun already had a guess in her mind: the female protagonist in this story was not as she appeared, and was even somewhat narrow-minded.

She likes Hua Zhian, but she can't stand how well his family treats Hua Xiangyun.

But in order not to ruin this naive and innocent character, Hua Xiangyun still pretended to be clueless.

Hua Zhian, “…My silly sister, you think too highly of people.”
