Chapter 97: Li Qian, the Unconventional Thinker
After the two finished chatting, Liu Cuihua's dinner was ready, and Jiang Hao took his two portions and went back to the house.
"Lolo, you don't have to cook today. My mom made our share. Oh, and this is the half-year rent the brigade will refund you. My dad said you've been living here for about half a year, so they can only refund half a year."
Shi Luo took the money, put it in his pocket, and took the lunch box.
"I thought it wouldn't be refunded at all. Any refund is a good one. Godmother is so kind. I'm tired from moving today and too lazy to cook. Let me see what we have for dinner. Oh, not bad. Shredded potatoes today. Oh, by the way, have you asked clearly about your cousin's situation?"
Jiang Hao ate the tortilla while telling Shi Luo the news he had just heard.
Shi Luo paused as he picked up the food. "I've heard a lot about disciples suing their masters and sons suing their fathers in recent years, but I never thought I'd see something like this happening around me. Your cousin must be seriously ill."
Jiang Hao smiled softly. "How can you not be sick? You gave up your job in the city and went to the countryside for a man. You don't know what your future will be like."
It was dinner time, and Jiang's eldest sister-in-law Li Qian was also having dinner with Jiang Dong.
"Your uncle has moved back, did you know that?"
Jiang Dong nodded and said, "I saw him when I came back from school and said hello."
Li Qian got angry when she remembered seeing Jiang Hao bringing out the lunch box from Liu Cuihua's room while she was cooking. "On the first day your uncle moved back home, he brought food from your grandma's house and didn't even give her any rations. He's really taking advantage of her."
Jiang Dong looked at his angry mother and tried to persuade her earnestly, "Mom, my uncle is moving today. He might not have time to cook, so he's eating at grandma's. Look, he always brought his own food when he went to grandma's house to eat before."
Li Qian looked at her silly son with dismay, "You are just stupid. He brought rations just for show. Every time he came back after eating, your grandma would bring him something to eat.
You have to know that your grandma and her family will live with us in the future, so what they give away now is also ours. If she gives more, we will get less in the future."
Jiang Dong was really helpless about his mother's thoughts and could only shift the blame to someone else. "Mom, have you forgotten that my dad sends money and packages to my uncle every month? You have the time to worry about my grandma's things. Why don't you worry about my dad's things? My dad's things are the real family stuff. My grandma's things are still not good enough."
Jiang Dong didn't mean to cause trouble for his own father, but he knew clearly that Jiang Hai would never listen to Li Qian, so he said this without any burden.
You know, even if Li Qian wrote to Jiang Hai to tell him about these things, Jiang Hai would just take a look at it and would not get angry at all, nor would he take it to heart.
Moreover, Li Qian would not really send a letter for such a thing, because she knew that Jiang Hai would not listen to her. In addition, Li Qian was reluctant to waste postage, so her father would definitely not be bothered by what she said.
But it’s different on grandma’s side. If my own mother gets upset and really goes to grandma to say these things, then my mother will definitely be scolded.
By then, grandma will definitely be angry, and my mother will also be angry. If it gets out of hand, grandpa and uncle will probably be unhappy too. It’s better to change the topic to my biological father who won’t cause any trouble.
Li Qian had no idea that her son had thought so much in such a short time. Instead, she followed her son's words and said very worriedly,
"Your father is stupid, your uncle and he are just ordinary brothers. How can he treat your uncle better than you? Every time I tell him, he is not happy and everything goes in one ear and out the other. If he could just listen to me, my mother and I would definitely be living a much better life than now. In fact, even if your father doesn't give me the money, I think it is better to give it to my mother and my brother than to your uncle."
Jiang Dong rolled his eyes. He really didn't understand his mother's logic. "Mom, I won't talk about my grandma, but your brother, he and you are just ordinary siblings. He is even more distant from my father. What are you thinking? How could my father give up his own brother to support your brother, my uncle?"
When Li Qian heard her son's words, she felt that the mush in her mouth was choking. After swallowing it with great effort, she said earnestly,
"How can that be the same? He's my maternal brother, someone who can support me. When your uncle's child grows up, he'll be your brother too, and he'll be able to help you. How come you don't understand anything? As the old saying goes, your mother's uncle is the most important. Besides, your grandma has always been worried about your uncle, and I really do feel sorry for her."
Jiang Dong was really stumped. "Mom, are you stupid? My uncle's children, what can they do to help me except steal my things?"
Li Qian also knew that Jiang Dong had a bad impression of his nephews from his mother's side. After all, every time he took Jiang Dong back to his mother's house, those children would snatch Jiang Dong's things. Although those nephews had never succeeded once, it did not mean that Jiang Dong really did not care or take it to heart.
Li Qian opened her mouth and stammered, "Aren't they still young? They don't know much, but they'll be fine when they grow up. Okay, why are you talking so much today? Hurry up and eat, or it'll get cold, and you still have homework to do later."
Jiang Dong curled his lips and was too lazy to attack his own mother anymore. He silently picked up the bowl, drank his own porridge, and stopped talking.
After dinner, I asked for a White Rabbit milk candy before I obediently went to do my homework.
