Chapter 112 Obsession

Chapter 112 Obsession

Shi Mingyue lay on the sofa, her chest heaving violently. Each breath was so rapid it seemed to burst from her chest, and soft panting came from her throat. Her face was as white as a sheet of paper, and even her lips had lost all color.

Yun Zhan's pupils contracted sharply, and the panic she had been suppressing just moments before exploded instantly. She even forgot to think about anything else and reached out to pick Shi Mingyue up in her arms.

The body she touched was light and cool, and was trembling slightly, which made her heart clench.

"Shi Mingyue! Hang in there!"

Yun Zhan's voice trembled without him even realizing it. He carried the person and walked quickly towards the door, the hem of his pajamas brushing against the floor, not bothering to straighten it.

As soon as she reached the entrance, the bodyguard standing outside the door spotted Shi Mingyue, who was unresponsive in her arms. His expression changed instantly, and he rushed over, his voice filled with urgency.

"Miss! What's wrong, Miss?"

Miss Shi fainted...

This will kill them!

Yun Zhan didn't have the energy to explain, he just handed her to the bodyguard: "Quick! She's fainted, get her to the hospital right away!"

The moment the bodyguard took Shi Mingyue, his fingers touched her cold skin and her rapid breathing. Without daring to delay for a moment, he turned around and rushed downstairs with her in his arms. His footsteps were hurried and chaotic in the stairwell, and soon disappeared into the rain.

Only when there was no more movement at the door did Yun Zhan feel as if all his strength had been drained away, and he slowly slid down against the cold wall.

Fine beads of sweat trickled down her forehead and cheeks, leaving small damp patches on her pajamas. Her eyes were unfocused, her mind replaying the image of Shi Mingyue before she fainted...

The bloodshot eyes, the defiant words, and the face that finally faded into darkness—every image pierces my heart like a needle.

Shi Mingyue is right.

I will remember her for the rest of my life.

"Yun Zhan? Are you alright...?"

Wen Sixue's voice came from behind, filled with worry.

She turned her head and saw Yun Zhan looking distraught, so she quickly went over and gently hugged her.

Yun Zhan leaned against Wen Sixue's chest, all her strength seemingly drained away in an instant. She raised her hand to cover her face, her voice choked with painful sobs: "It's my fault...it's all my fault...I'm sorry to her, and I'm sorry to you..."

She thought she could handle it, but she never expected that Shi Mingyue would end up in such a state, and that Wen Sixue beside her would also be worried.

Wen Sixue could clearly feel the trembling of the person in her arms, and a dense, sharp pain rose in her heart.

She gently patted Yun Zhan's back, her voice soft and gentle: "It's not your fault, you've done very well... Don't blame yourself, calm down first, okay?"

Wen Sixue hugged Yun Zhan tighter, her chin gently resting on the top of her head. She could smell the lingering fragrance of shampoo in her hair, but this warmth couldn't suppress the complex emotions surging in her heart.

"It's okay...don't worry, I'm still here with you."

She looked down at Yun Zhan curled up in her arms, her fingertips gently brushing against the sweaty back of her neck.

The faint sounds of arguing that had just come from the study were still echoing in my ears; I knew without a doubt what kind of fierce confrontation had taken place inside.

By ending things in such an extreme way, Shi Mingyue was clearly placing the heaviest shackles on Yun Zhan's heart.

Wen Sixue pursed her lips, tasting a hint of bitterness on her tongue...

In the past, she always tried to understand Shi Mingyue's deep affection, but this time, seeing the person in her arms looking so lost and trembling even as she breathed, she could no longer comfort herself by telling herself to "understand".

She liked Yun Zhan, and secretly hoped that Yun Zhan's emotional ups and downs would only be for her, that her pain and joy would be related to her, instead of being affected by another person in such a tragic way.

But this selfish thought, barely emerging, was suppressed by another emotion. She thought of Shi Mingyue's family background and talent, and how even her breakdowns were tinged with pride. Looking down at her own simple cotton pajamas, a hidden unease involuntarily rose within her...

—She is indeed inferior to Shi Mingyue, both in terms of external conditions and personal abilities.

Yun Zhan was still sobbing in her arms, warm tears seeping through her pajamas and burning Wen Sixue's heart.

She gently patted Yun Zhan's back, her movements as tender as if she were comforting a wounded little animal, but only she knew that her heart was in turmoil, filled with heartache, selfishness, and unease.

Wen Sixue wanted Yun Zhan to get over his guilt as soon as possible, but she couldn't help but care about the mark Shi Mingyue had left in Yun Zhan's heart. She was glad that Yun Zhan had finally chosen her, but she was also secretly afraid that this choice contained Yun Zhan's guilt towards Shi Mingyue.

"Don't be afraid, Miss Shi will be alright..."

“If you want, we can go see her. If you’re worried about disturbing her, we can peek in from outside the door, or we can ask the doctor.”

Wen Sixue softened her voice even more and whispered in Yun Zhan's ear.

"It will all pass, I'm here."

Yun Zhan clutched Wen Sixue's clothes, knelt on the ground, staring blankly at the ground, barely listening to Wen Sixue's soft words of comfort.

Wen Sixue could clearly feel her stiffness and patted her shoulder uneasily.

"Can you still stand up? Yun Zhan... don't scare me..."

Wen Sixue watched her nervously, gently patted Yun Zhan's back, and waited for her to raise her head slightly before reaching out to take her hand, the warmth of her palm steadily transferring to her.

"I'm sorry, I couldn't control my emotions... I..."

"Let's not linger here, let's go to the hospital to get checked out."

Yun Zhan was stunned for a moment, then turned to look at Wen Sixue.

There was no resentment in her eyes, only understanding and support.

When the two arrived at the hospital, the emergency room lights were still on.

Shi Mingyue lay on a small bed in the emergency room...

"She must have been crying for too long, her hands and feet went numb, and I even felt her face was numb. She's been vomiting constantly now, which is respiratory alkali poisoning."

After making a preliminary assessment of Mingyue's symptoms, the doctor continued his analysis: "Due to difficulty breathing, the carbon dioxide level in her body is too low, and her blood oxygen saturation is too high. Her hands are stiff and twitching into a claw-like shape, with the fingertips turning bluish-white..."

"Quickly get a bag over here. Put a plastic bag over your breath and it will help the carbon dioxide to circulate back."

The nurse quickly brought a mask and put it over her head, allowing her to breathe slowly to promote carbon dioxide recirculation. After nearly half an hour of this, her symptoms finally eased a bit.

As soon as Yun Zhan and Wen Sixue stood at the entrance of the emergency room, they heard Shi Mingyue's voice coming from inside.

Still weak and barely breathing, he stubbornly repeated two words: "Yun Zhan... Yun Zhan!"

The voice was loud, with an almost insane obsession that startled even the doctor who was recording the medical records.

The emergency room doctor paused, his pen still in his hand, and he subconsciously looked up at the door.

Yun Zhan's heart clenched, and her feet seemed to be nailed to the spot. Shi Mingyue might still be lying there, or she might still be trembling, but she was still stubbornly calling out her name. This obsession was like a thorn, making her heart feel both stuffy and painful.

“Yun Zhan.…”

Wen Sixue gently squeezed her hand, her heart leaping into her throat.

The doctor looked up and saw Yun Zhan at the door, and roughly knew what had happened...

She put down the medical record in her hand, walked quickly to Yun Zhan's side, deliberately lowered her voice, and spoke with a hint of helplessness.

"You'd better leave for a bit."

Yun Zhan's body stiffened. The doctor's gaze fell on her pale face, and he continued, "Her emotions are too unstable right now. As soon as you appeared, her heart rate spiked. The state she had just managed to stabilize could easily relapse."

The doctor paused, then softened his tone: "We'll talk about it when she's feeling better and calmer. Right now, the most important thing is for her to get some rest."

In the emergency room, Shi Mingyue, wearing a mask, stared intently at the door from her hospital bed. The blood vessels in her eyes were even more prominent, her hands began to tremble slightly, and even her breathing became heavier.

Yun Zhan's heart skipped a beat, but he could only nod slightly, his voice as soft as a sigh: "Okay, I understand."

She didn't go any further inside, and didn't even dare to look at Shi Mingyue again. She turned around and walked out of the hospital.

As soon as I stepped out of the emergency room, the icy rain pelted down on me.

Before I knew it, the drizzle had turned into a downpour. The raindrops hit the ground and splashed up half a foot high, blurring my vision.

Yun Zhan practically rolled out of the hospital in a disheveled state, staggering and forgetting to even hold up his umbrella.

Wen Sixue quickly followed behind, opening her umbrella to firmly cover her head, while half of her shoulder was exposed to the rain and soon became soaked.

Reaching the eaves of the hospital entrance, Yun Zhan finally couldn't hold back any longer. His body went limp, and he turned around and threw himself into Wen Sixue's arms, clutching her clothes tightly with both hands, his shoulders trembling violently.

She buried her face in Wen Sixue's neck, her voice filled with choked sobs of despair, repeatedly cursing herself: "I deserve to die... It's all my fault... If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have ended up like this..."

Wen Sixue let her hug her, gently stroking her back as if protecting a fragile child, and holding her head tightly in her arms.

The rain soaked her hair and clothes, bringing a biting chill, but she didn't care at all, only using her body heat to warm the person collapsing in her arms.

Wen Sixue simply tightened her arms again and again, offering Yun Zhan the most steadfast support with a silent embrace.

"Cry...it'll be better if you cry it out, Yun Zhan...you've always suppressed yourself too much."

"Many times, things don't go the way you want them to."

"You know, regrets are a constant companion in life..."

Wen Sixue knew that no amount of comforting words could compare to letting Yun Zhan vent his frustrations.

The heavy rain continued to fall, washing over the streets in front of the hospital and also washing over Yun Zhan's heart, making her increasingly miserable.

Wen Sixue held her, letting her cry uncontrollably in her arms until Yun Zhan's emotions gradually calmed down. Then she gently patted her back and said in a tender voice, "Let's go back first, okay? The rain is too heavy. If you stay in the rain any longer, you'll get sick."

Yun Zhan left, but Shi Mingyue on the sickbed did not look away.

Her gaze was fixed on the emergency room door, and she even brushed away the doctor's hand when he reached out to adjust her IV line.

His body, which had been trembling slightly, suddenly froze. He even breathed very softly. Only the red veins in his eyes became more and more glaring under the incandescent light, like the wick of a candle that had burned out, revealing an almost insane obsession.

She stopped yelling and screaming like before, and stopped sobbing and calling out "Yun Zhan's" name. She just stared silently at the door, eerily quiet...

My palms were clenched so tightly by my fingernails that they turned white, and deep crescent-shaped marks were embedded in my flesh, with blood seeping out, but I didn’t even notice.

Tears continued to stream down her pale cheeks, soaking her collar and the shirt underneath, but she didn't even lift her hand to wipe them away.

All her attention was focused on the closed door, and she couldn't even hear the doctor's words of advice to "rest well" as if they were coming from behind a thick barrier.

The emergency room was quiet, with only the beeping of the electrocardiogram monitor and the faint sound of rain coming from outside the window.

Shi Mingyue remained motionless, her head turned to look at the door. Her eyes were red as if they were about to bleed, and her gaze was filled with resentment, anger, and a hint of panic that she herself was unaware of.

She feared that once Yun Zhan left, he would never return, and that she would lose even the chance to be remembered by him...

A long time passed, until the doctor came for the third time to persuade her to lie down, before she slowly withdrew her gaze, still pursing her lips and not saying a word.

But the last glimmer of light in those bloodshot eyes gradually dimmed, leaving only a deathly stubbornness, like a trapped beast licking its wounds alone in a corner unseen by anyone, yet refusing to easily admit defeat.
