Chapter 121 Copywriting Recovery (3)
The next day, Yun Zhan took Wen Sixue to the southernmost part of the Northern Kingdom, where the climate was pleasant and spring-like all year round.
Surrounded by mountains and forests, there are several small lakes. Yun Zhan paid money to rent a fishing spot here.
After heading south, the climate was noticeably warmer. The ice on the lake had long since melted, and Yun Zhan's face was clearly reflected in the water. She moved a small stool to sit by the lake; remnants of snow still clung to the distant mountains, and looking up, she could see the azure sky.
"Let's go fishing together, it's a lot of fun." Yun Zhan pulled Wen Sixue to sit down next to him.
There's a small wooden cabin here, with a wooden platform extending out in front, perfect for fishing. That's why Yun Zhan rented it.
Yun Zhan set up his fishing rod, sat quietly on the edge of the platform, and slowly cast the fishing line into the lake.
"I'm a little sleepy. Can I sleep for half an hour? Last time I saw you hadn't caught any fish in an hour. I'll keep you company after I rest for a while." Wen Sixue kissed her cheek in a coaxing manner.
Wen Sixue, however, did not have that patience. She was far less interested in fishing than in Yun Zhan, and her purpose in coming here was simply to keep Yun Zhan company.
"Go ahead, but remember to come keep me company later."
"OK."
Wen Sixue moved a rattan lounge chair under the eaves of the wooden house, so that she could bask in the sun and feel warm without the sun being too bright.
Wen Sixue squinted and turned to the side, her gaze falling on Yun Zhan not far away. Yun Zhan's profile looked exceptionally serene. The person she loved was intently looking at the lake, a gentle breeze ruffling the stray hairs on her forehead, her whole being blending into the scenery of the lake and mountains.
Gradually, Wen Sixue became sleepy, and her consciousness began to fade.
Spring afternoons always make people drowsy. A gentle breeze blows, and the surroundings are warm and cozy. In the distance, you can hear Yun Zhan's occasional shouts and birdsong from the forest.
Wen Sixue couldn't hold on any longer; her eyelids grew heavy, and she drifted off to sleep in a peaceful atmosphere.
She had a dream.
There is no northern country, no snow-capped mountains, and no cloud-shrouded peaks in my dreams.
The scene changed to a classroom at Minton School, a place she knew all too well. Sunlight streamed through the glass windows, casting dappled shadows, and the air was filled with the perfumes of aristocratic young ladies. She could also hear gossip about herself.
For Wen Sixue, this was a nightmare; she disliked the school.
However, Yun Zhan is at the school...
Wen Sixue turned around abruptly, only to find that Yun Zhan wasn't looking at her. She and Yun Zhan... were both wearing the simplest white school uniforms, just ordinary classmates.
"Yun Zhan!" Wen Sixue ran to her table, excitedly wanting to talk to her, but the next second, Wen Sixue's heart turned cold.
Yun Zhan subtly moved a little further away, while the girl frowned, her eyes filled with indifference.
"Is there something you need?" Yun Zhan looked up at her, his voice cold and devoid of its previous gentleness.
In the dream, Yun Zhan didn't seem to know her... or rather, their relationship was limited to that of classmates.
Yun Zhan was no longer the one who loved her deeply. She was aloof, distant, and beautiful, the most dazzling presence in the crowd, yet she kept her distance from everyone.
Wen Sixue didn't know what her mindset was when she sat back down; her heart was almost crushed by fear.
She clenched her fists at her chest, breaking out in a cold sweat.
Has she been transported into an illusion again? Or was none of this ever happening, and Yun Zhan never chose her, and it was all just a dream?
The school bell rang throughout the campus, and the aristocratic young ladies left in twos and threes, laughing.
Wen Sixue didn't move, nor did she dare to, because Yun Zhan, who was next to her, was asleep on the desk.
The previous class was a boring Spanish class that had exhausted all of Yun Zhan's energy. She rested her head on her arm, turned her face to the side, and breathed evenly and deeply. At that moment, the sunlight shone through the window and fell squarely on her.
The sunlight cast a soft, golden glow on her profile, dispelling the previous coldness and softening the atmosphere.
The light traced the high bridge of Yun Zhan's nose, casting a small patch of dappled shadow. Wen Sixue's gaze slid over Yun Zhan's slightly pursed lips, whose shape was so beautiful it was captivating. She suddenly longed to kiss Yun Zhan.
Wen Sixue almost forgot to breathe, and could only hear her own heartbeat. She just stared at Yun Zhan in a daze.
Just as Wen Sixue was engrossed in watching, Yun Zhan, who was lying on the table, seemed to sense something, and his eyelashes trembled slightly.
Yun Zhan woke up.
He was awakened by Wen Sixue.
Her gaze was so direct that Yun Zhan couldn't remain completely unresponsive.
Yun Zhan rubbed his eyes, a few tears welling up in the corners of his eyes, a sleepy and languid feeling. Only after his mind cleared up a little did Yun Zhan open his eyes.
Those eyes still held a hint of mist, like a pool of water shrouded in a thin fog.
Yun Zhan's gaze slowly focused, accurately capturing Wen Sixue's gaze that she hadn't had time to withdraw.
Their eyes met.
Wen Sixue's heart skipped a beat; she had been caught peeking at Yun Zhan, and her cheeks instantly flushed.
However, Yun Zhan's reaction was unlike anything she was familiar with.
There was no familiar smile or gentle voice; instead, her delicate brows furrowed slightly, and her beautiful eyes revealed displeasure at being disturbed.
Why are you staring at me like that?
Yun Zhan frowned as he spoke, his tone cold and direct: "Just tell me what you want to talk to me about. I don't like being watched."
After Yun Zhan asked the question, Wen Sixue fell silent again.
"This is so boring. I tried to talk to you, but you just stopped talking."
Yun Zhan mumbled something under his breath, clicked his tongue, and then decisively turned his head away, leaving the back of his head to Wen Sixue. He decided to change his position and continue sleeping.
The gesture clearly revealed impatience and deliberate distancing, unexpectedly hurting Wen Sixue.
The sunlight in the dream was still bright, and the classroom was still quiet, but Wen Sixue felt a chill to the bone.
Looking at Yun Zhan's indifferent back, at the girl in the pure black school uniform who showed her no positive reaction whatsoever, a huge, indescribable panic instantly gripped her.
This is not her Yun Zhan.
Wen Sixue's lips trembled slightly as she asked softly, almost pleadingly, "You...don't you remember what happened between us?"
"What happened at the theater before, and..."
Wen Sixue was referring to their first encounter, which was their most precious memory.
However, Yun Zhan didn't even turn his head.
Yun Zhan had his back to her, and his voice came muffledly from the crook of the desk: "What are you saying?"
Wen Sixue fell silent instantly. Her eyes reddened, and she opened her mouth, but couldn't utter a single word. Her throat felt like it was stuffed with a wad of cotton soaked in ice water, both cold and astringent.
Despite being surrounded by sunlight, she felt unusually cold, and her face turned deathly pale.
Wen Sixue sat there blankly, feeling her heart sinking deeper and deeper into an endless, cold, and lonely abyss.
That chilling sense of loss was so real, so intense, that it gripped Wen Sixue's heart so tightly that even breathing hurt.
The next instant, Wen Sixue's body trembled violently, as if she were falling from a great height, awakened by a feeling of weightlessness.
Before her eyes were no longer the school and classrooms she hated, nor the cold and distant Yun Zhan.
What came into view was the familiar scenery of the lake and mountains, bathed in the warm orange hues of the setting sun. A blurry figure blocked her view.
Wen Sixue was still sitting on the rattan recliner, while Yun Zhan stood in front of her.
The afterglow of the setting sun outlined Yun Zhan's figure. She wore a light-colored fisherman's hat with the brim pulled low, blocking some of the light and making the contours of her face appear even more deep and soft.
Yun Zhan held the slender fishing rod in one hand and a semi-transparent bucket in the other. The bucket looked a bit heavy, so Yun Zhan put it on the ground.
Wen Sixue's gaze unconsciously fell on the bucket of water, as she tried to confirm whether this world was real. It seemed that Yun Zhan had caught five or six large fish; the water in the bucket rippled gently, and several silvery fish could be clearly seen swimming around.
Yun Zhan had just finished fishing and was about to wake Wen Sixue.
"I served the fish, and then I didn't call you. I thought you could sleep a little longer. Do you want to eat this tonight? I'll grill it."
After Yun Zhan finished speaking, when she saw Wen Sixue's face clearly, her smile instantly froze on her lips.
"What's wrong?"
Yun Zhan was stunned.
Wen Sixue's face was covered in tears.
Large tears slid down from the corners of her eyes, following the curve of her cheeks, and dripped onto her clothes, leaving a small dark stain.
Her eyes were empty and broken, filled with terror. She stared at Yun Zhan without moving, her pupils unfocused.
Yun Zhan threw down the fishing rod in his hand, quickly squatted down, and used his fingertips to wipe away the tears from the corners of Wen Sixue's eyes. His movements were gentle and slow, completely unlike his appearance in the dream. Here, Yun Zhan was very careful, afraid of hurting Wen Sixue.
"What's wrong? Did you have a nightmare? You're crying like this. Or did something else happen..."
Yun Zhan's fingertips were warm and delicate, with a real tactile feel, and his familiar and gentle voice finally pulled Wen Sixue's wandering soul back to reality.
Wen Sixue's gaze slowly focused, and she became slightly more awake.
"Just now... I think I dreamt that I went back to school. It felt so real. You didn't love me, and we never met," Wen Sixue said, her voice choked with tears.
This is her Yun Zhan.
A sense of relief and lingering fear instantly overwhelmed Wen Sixue's rationality.
Wen Sixue suddenly reached out and gripped Yun Zhan's wrist tightly, her knuckles turning white. Her voice trembled, carrying an almost frantic confirmation.
"Or was I not dreaming at all? Did I... did I travel into an illusion again?"
Wen Sixue's eyes were filled with fear as she anxiously searched for answers on Yun Zhan's face, trying to confirm whether everything before her was just another false illusion.
"It felt so real... so incredibly real... even the tone of voice was exactly the same."
She continued incoherently, "You there...you there don't love me..."
When she finished speaking, her voice broke completely, turning into a suppressed sob filled with endless grievance.
"It was all just a dream." Yun Zhan bent down and hugged Wen Sixue's head.
"Dreams are the opposite."
"But it's too real, I doubt... this isn't a dream."
Wen Sixue was still uneasy. Yun Zhan was not a person of this world.
