Chapter 37 Ship (3)

Chapter 37 Ship (3)

Yun Zhan was emotionally dense, but she wasn't deaf; she clearly heard what Pei Yanxi was saying.

Senior...

Do you like me?

No way... Is what 21 said true? She really does have feelings for me...?

Yun Zhan hurriedly propped himself up, his arms still trembling. The aftershocks of the explosion, the gunshot wound in his left arm, and the weightlessness from jumping off the ship all rushed over him.

But when she forcefully opened her eyelids, the world suddenly became quiet.

Pei Yanxi was right beneath her, her face, pale from the rain, now seemed to be ignited by the faint red of the twilight.

The senior's usually aloof eyes were now filled with a soft light, like the moon suddenly rising from the deep sea.

Yun Zhan's heart clenched; in her world, it seemed to be the first time she had ever seen Pei Yanxi like this.

Thus, the gentle and affectionate senior.

Pei Yanxi looked up at Yun Zhan, tiny raindrops clinging to her eyelashes, yet she couldn't bear to blink.

Her gaze was gentler than ever before, devoid of calculation or restraint, filled only with naked tenderness and love, like the first melting of winter snow, seeping inch by inch over Yun Zhan's fingertips.

Pei Yanxi's lips curved slightly, the curve was very slight, but it carried an unprecedented softness.

Her fingertips were still clasped around Yun Zhan's nape, the warmth of her fingertips seeping into his skin through his soaked collar, like a silent confirmation: "I am alive, you are alive, and my feelings for you are real."

The sounds of rain, waves, and the distant echoes of explosions were all silenced by that gaze at that moment.

Yun Zhan's panic was frozen in place, his heart pounding wildly in his chest, as if it were about to burst out of his bones.

She opened her mouth, but only managed to let out a short, almost inaudible gasp.

"I... Senior, here you go, I took this from his hand." Yun Zhan hurriedly took out a ring from his pocket, which he had just taken from the warlord leader.

“This should be something we can show to the Pei family to shut them up… Senior, please accept it…” Yun Zhan stammered as he quickly stuffed the ring into Pei Yanxi’s hand.

"Yun Zhan, I said I like you." Pei Yanxi accepted the ring, a slight smile playing on her lips.

Should we change the subject? Yun Zhan is so cute.

"Ah, I...I know, let's go back and rest for a bit." Yun Zhan coughed a few times and got up to leave.

"Stop running away. Even if you don't want to answer me now, I've already said it: Yun Zhan, we can't be friends anymore." Pei Yanxi hooked her arm around her neck, her burning gaze sweeping across her face.

"Yun Zhan, we can be lovers. On our wedding day in the future, I can be your wife, and even after we die, we can sleep together in the afterlife. But friends, schoolmates, senior classmates, we can't be friends anymore..." Pei Yanxi looked up and brushed her cheek, her expression both lingering and dreamy.

"I don't want to see you with someone else, Yun Zhan... I really love you."

She gazed at Yun Zhan's red lips, wet with raindrops, and longed to kiss them...

"Let's go back first." Yun Zhan's mind was in a mess, and she didn't know how to respond to Pei Yanxi.

She really hadn't thought about dating... She always wanted to be a narcissus.

“Okay, let’s go back first and take care of your wound.” Pei Yanxi stood up and carefully supported Yun Zhan’s injured arm.

Once the door to the lounge is closed, the sound of rain is blocked out, leaving only a warm yellow wall lamp.

Pei Yanxi placed the first-aid kit on the table, her fingertips slightly cold from nervousness.

"Take off your shirt," Pei Yanxi said in a low voice, but with an undeniable gentleness. "I'll treat your wound first."

Yun Zhan turned his back, his fingers touching the wet buttons of his shirt.

The fabric clung to my skin, and each time I untied a piece, it caused a tiny stinging pain.

The shirt fell to the ground, the light fell on her shoulders, the skin around the gunshot wound was red and swollen, the blood and rainwater mixed into a dark color, but it still could not hide her original cold white skin.

Pei Yanxi knelt down and first disinfected the area with iodine-soaked cotton balls.

Upon touching the cool medicine, Yun Zhan took a soft breath, his shoulders trembling slightly.

Pei Yanxi immediately softened her movements, as if afraid of hurting her again.

The gauze was wrapped tightly, and his fingertips occasionally brushed against Yun Zhan's back, sending a subtle electric current through him.

After the bandaging was completed, Pei Yanxi did not get up.

She looked up and her gaze fell on Yun Zhan's shoulder.

Pei Yanxi had always known that Yun Zhan had very fair skin...

That patch of skin, almost transparent under the light, resembled the unmelted moon over a snowfield.

Pei Yanxi's heart pounded in her chest. She pressed Yun Zhan against the headboard, wrapped her arms around his sides, and held him in a somewhat domineering manner.

Pei Yanxi's burning gaze was fixed on Yun Zhan's collarbone, and she said in a hoarse voice, "May I kiss you? I want to kiss you..."

The moment the words left his mouth, even the air seemed to freeze.

Pei Yanxi's fingertips hovered in mid-air, her knuckles turning white from restraint.

Afraid of scaring Yun Zhan, she added, her voice so low it was almost inaudible: "If you don't want to, I absolutely won't force you."

Pei Yanxi held her breath, waiting for an answer, whether it was a look or a slight nod.

However, it was clear that Yun Zhan was startled. Wasn't he supposed to be bandaging her wound? Why was he suddenly going to kiss her again...?

"Senior, we... I'm not ready to be in a relationship yet."

“Okay, it’s okay. I won’t force you. Think it over carefully, think about me carefully.” Pei Yanxi’s fingers, hanging by her side, tightened slightly, then relaxed.

Under the light, her eyelashes cast a very faint shadow.

Silence, like a tide, slowed their breathing to a crawl.

Suddenly, the sentry at the door broke the silence.

"Miss Pei, a rescue ship has arrived. It seems to belong to... the Shi family."

"The Shi family?" Pei Yanxi's expression was complicated. How could it be the Shi family?

In the early hours of the morning, the lights on the private dock of Mingyue Villa suddenly came on.

Searchlights swept across the sea, cutting the raindrops into sharp silver lines with their white light.

Shi Mingyue, wearing a long black coat and boots, stood on the slippery pier, her fingertips white from clenching her fists so tightly.

Behind her, a light hospital ship painted in dark gray was already on fire and steam was rising. Bodyguards and emergency medical teams stood on both sides of the ship, their white coats fluttering in the wind.

Wen Yuan lunged forward, grabbing her wrists with both hands, her voice shattered by the sound of the waves.

“Miss, you’ve only known her for a few months. There’s absolutely no need for you to go and save her yourself.”

"A few months?"

Shi Mingyue glanced sideways, the bloodshot veins in her eyes resembling cracked cinnabar.

"If she dies in the sea, I won't even have a few months left."

Wen Yuan's fingertips were gently pushed away, and Shi Mingyue staggered, rain streaming down her temples.

"North Sentinel Island is surrounded by warlords. It's really too dangerous, even more dangerous than the last Lantern Festival."

"So I brought a doctor, and I also brought a gun." Shi Mingyue raised her hand, her knuckles tapping the railing, making a crisp sound.

Wen Yuan held up an umbrella, the ribs creaking in the wind. Her voice, coming through the rain, was both gentle and urgent.

“But didn’t she go there for Pei Yanxi’s sake? She’s already treated Pei Yanxi like this, why are you doing this to her, Miss… Our Miss is of noble birth, she can’t find anyone she wants. What if she likes Pei Yanxi… what will you do?”

Wen Yuan was on the verge of tears; she truly felt sorry for Shi Mingyue.

In what way is their young lady inferior to Pei Yanxi? In terms of appearance and family background, what is she lacking? Moreover, their young lady is so gentle, considerate, and easy to talk to, a thousand times better than that cold Pei Yanxi.

This Yun Zhan!

Wen Yuan was so angry she wanted to bite her teeth.

Shi Mingyue paused for half a second, her voice low and somewhat muffled, "What can I do? I like her."

"I wish to find a soulmate and stay together until our hair turns white. Wenyuan, the person I've chosen, I must marry and spend the rest of my life with her."

So what if she went to sea for Pei Yanxi? She knows what kind of person Yun Zhan is.

She had already experienced the willingness to risk her life to save others, back during the Lantern Festival.

Saving her doesn't mean loving her. Shi Mingyue clenched her fists and said to Wen Yuan in front of her, "I've had everything since I was a child, and I've never thought about needing anything. After I met Yun Zhan, I experienced the feeling of 'needing' for the first time. I must have Yun Zhan."

Shi Mingyue stood by the ship's railing, raindrops dampening her hair and rolling down her eyelashes, as if speaking for her unspoken resolve.

She raised her hand to wipe the rain off her face; her fingertips were icy cold, yet her hand remained steady without trembling.

"No one but her." Shi Mingyue's voice was not loud, but it overwhelmed the sea breeze, like cold iron striking an anvil, crisp and hard.

The ship's horn blared, and the bow cleaved through the waves.

Wen Yuan was stopped at the end of the pier, and the rain hit her face like a series of tears that hadn't had time to fall.

The searchlights went out, darkness swallowed the ship's silhouette, and only the low growl of the engine echoed further and further into the rain.
