Chapter 60
The snow stopped, and all was quiet.
"How can mere words prove your resolve?" Yun Zhan's voice was colder than snow, but his eyes began to waver.
Shi Mingyue did not answer. She raised her hand, her fingertips touching her heart, where it trembled slightly with nervousness and shyness.
"Right here? I'm fine. The snow isn't cold. You can sleep here with me once, and when you wake up, I'll let you sleep here every day."
Yun Zhan tried to look away, but Shi Mingyue grabbed his hand.
"Don't go... Yun Zhan, you have to look at me."
Shi Mingyue raised her hand and unhesitatingly removed her upper garment, revealing skin that was almost transparently white, blending into the snowy light, yet radiating a warm, soft pink hue.
Despite the surrounding environment, Yun Zhan felt a scorching heat.
Shi Mingyue, now naked, stood before Yun Zhan, whose gaze could clearly trace her silhouette.
Shi Mingyue has elegant shoulder and neck lines, and a handful of cold light shines in the hollow of her collarbone.
Her skin was so white it was almost transparent, and the fluttering in her heart gave it a pale pink hue.
The fabric slipped down gently, like moonlight spilling onto the ground, silently piling up at her ankles.
“Come on...it’s my own choice.” Shi Mingyue firmly took Yun Zhan’s hand.
The hand, chilled by the snowy night, pressed firmly against his chest, his heart pounding violently beneath his palm like a bonfire suddenly igniting in the snowfield.
"Will you take care of the rest, or will I do it myself?"
She asked softly, her voice as light as falling snow, yet carrying an undeniable fervor.
Yun Zhan's knuckles stiffened as his palm touched something hot and soft, like pressing on a newly blooming petal.
She abruptly turned her face away, the words of advice stuck in her throat, turning into a silent sigh.
Have your family members ever told you that you're stubborn?
"No, I was very well-behaved before, and I can be very well-behaved in front of you too."
You're the one who wanted to sleep with me.
I am willing to submit to you, willing to sleep with you.
Snowflakes fell on their overlapping shadows, like a white firework about to melt away.
Yun Zhan took a deep breath and cast a smoke-like spell. Silver light escaped from her fingertips and instantly enveloped Shi Mingyue.
"Go back. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said those things to you," Yun Zhan whispered, his voice so soft that only he could hear it.
Shi Mingyue's eyelashes trembled slightly, and her body went limp in her arms, her skin still warm.
Yun Zhan swept the person up in his arms, and the illusion collapsed beneath her feet into countless silver-white light spots.
I opened my eyes to reality: a hospital ward, the nightlights dim and yellow.
Yun Zhan gently placed the unconscious Shi Mingyue on the hospital bed, tucked her in, and brushed his fingertips across her lips, leaving a trace of extremely light, cool warmth.
She stood by the bed, taking one last look at the sleeping face, her voice as soft as falling snow: "Why do you like me so much? I don't understand. Don't like me anymore, it's not worth it."
Then, she turned around, quietly walked out of the ward, and into the late spring night.
The light at the end of the corridor stretched Yun Zhan's silhouette long until he disappeared from view.
...
Wen Sixue was the last person to receive the news; it was Pei Yanxi who told her that Yun Zhan was critically ill.
Pei Yanxi said to her, "Yun Zhan cares about you a lot, and you have the right to know about this."
Pei Yanxi recounted the entire incident.
During this time, her mind went blank, as if she had suffered a severe blow. She was completely unclear about everything and could not remember anything except Yun Zhan.
It wasn't until Pei Yanxi left that she finally came to her senses. Her legs were weak, and after a dizzying moment, she collapsed onto the floor tiles.
Large tears fell onto the floor; I didn't even feel the bruises on my legs; my head hurt so much...
Why is she always the last one to arrive when Yun Zhan is injured...?
Wen Sixue huddled painfully against the corner of the wall, clutching her hair. The tearing pain in her head almost made her faint.
"No, I have to go see her..." Wen Sixue forced herself to stand up, her limbs numb.
She hurriedly pulled her coat off the hanger, and the doorbell suddenly rang, each ring more urgent than the last, sounding somewhat frightening amidst the rain.
Wen Sixue froze, her fingers still gripping her collar, her heart skipping a beat for no apparent reason.
Through the peephole, Wen Sixue saw the figure she had been longing for—it was actually... Yun Zhan?
Yun Zhan stood outside, soaked to the bone, his black hair clinging to his pale cheeks, water dripping from the ends.
The most terrifying thing was those eyes, blood-red and gleaming coldly in the rainy night, like a beast that had strayed into the human world.
"Yun Zhan?!" Wen Sixue exclaimed in surprise, her voice shattered by the wind and rain.
The moment the door opened, a blast of cold wind and rain rushed in. Without thinking twice, Wen Sixue pulled the person inside and slammed the door shut. The sound of the lock clicking shut was particularly crisp in the rain.
The room was warm, but Yun Zhan seemed oblivious to the temperature, still standing in the entryway. Water droplets dripped from the hem of her clothes, spreading out in dark circles on the floor.
Wen Sixue hurriedly took off her soaking wet coat. Her fingertips touched the other person's skin, which was as cold as ice, yet had a strange, almost frigid temperature.
"Aren't you in the hospital? Did you run away without permission? What did the doctor say...? Come in first, okay? I'll go get you some clothes!"
She rushed into the bedroom, rummaged through drawers and cabinets to find the softest cotton loungewear, and then grabbed a large bath towel, handling it as if it were a frightened cat, her movements gentle yet hurried.
Yun Zhan stood still, his bloodshot eyes lowered, revealing no emotion, yet he allowed himself to be manipulated by her.
After changing her clothes, Wen Sixue rushed into the kitchen again. The ginger soup was boiling in the pot, and the spicy heat spread out.
She stirred the soup with the spoon while secretly glancing into the living room.
"What's going on? Something feels off. Yun Zhan's behavior is a bit strange..." Wen Sixue was anxious, but she didn't know where to start the conversation.
Yun Zhan sat on the edge of the sofa, her back ramrod straight. Her wet black hair fell across her forehead, obscuring her terrifying eyes, but it couldn't hide the almost dangerous, beast-like aura emanating from her.
The ginger soup was ready, and Wen Sixue carefully brought it over. Yun Zhan's skin was so cold that it felt like ice. Wen Sixue's heart skipped a beat, but she forced herself to remain calm: "Drink some ginger soup first to warm yourself up."
Yun Zhan took the bowl, his fingertips gently tracing the rim of the cup: "I've come to fulfill my promise."
Her voice was cold and indifferent... completely unlike her previous self.
Wen Sixue's body stiffened, a strange panic rising within her: "What agreement? Let's warm up first. Be good..."
Yun Zhan sat on the sofa, his bloodshot eyes sweeping over Wen Sixue: "I promised to take you to the amusement park, so I've come to find you now."
Amusement park?
Wen Sixue suddenly remembered that on the night they parted, Yun Zhan had personally made a pinky promise with her...
"Can we talk about it later? I'm really scared..."
Wen Sixue almost burst into tears; she could have said all that later...
It's as if they're saying goodbye...
The other person did not answer, but just stared at her silently, their eyes terrifyingly empty, like a shell from which the soul had been ripped out.
Wen Sixue's heart sank suddenly. She suddenly remembered a legend she had heard when she was a child: after a person dies, if they are reluctant to leave, they will come back to see the person they care about most.
The thought, like a poisonous ivy, instantly gripped her heart.
Her pupils contracted sharply, and her fingertips dug tightly into her palm, yet she felt no pain.
She even began to doubt her own eyes.
Is what I'm seeing now an illusion? Is Yun Zhan a ghost? Is it because she misses him so much that she sees a "Yun Zhan" who shouldn't be there in the middle of the night?
Wen Sixue suddenly raised her hand and pinched her thigh hard.
A sharp pain shot through her nerves to her brain. She gasped, tears welling up instantly, but the pain pulled her back to reality.
Even without the environment, she could still feel Yun Zhan.
Wen Sixue rushed into the bathroom again, frantically turning on the hot water, the water in the bathtub making a splashing sound.
"The hot water is ready, go take a shower," Wen Sixue said softly, her voice so soft she was afraid of disturbing anything.
Yun Zhan raised his eyes, his crimson pupils gleaming coldly under the warm light, but he nodded slightly.
The moment the bathroom door closed, Wen Sixue leaned against the wall, her fingertips still trembling.
The person in front of her was Yun Zhan, whom she had been longing for.
The bathroom door opened, and warm steam, along with Yun Zhan's dampness, wafted out.
Yun Zhan walked barefoot on the floor, his hair still dripping wet, but he went straight to the bedside and sat down, his silence unsettling.
Wen Sixue stood half a step away, finally mustering the courage to walk around behind her, her arms passing under her ribs, gently encircling the waist that was slightly cool from the hot water.
Her voice trembled, yet it carried an unwavering longing: "Did something happen to you? Seeing you like this terribly frightens me."
Wen Sixue tightened her arms and pressed her forehead against Yun Zhan's back: "Maybe I can't help, but I still want to know... I want to do something for you, even just a little bit."
As soon as she finished speaking, she hugged him tighter, as if trying to stuff all her warmth into that silent shell, afraid that if she loosened her grip even slightly, he would disappear into the rainy night.
Yun Zhan struggled slightly, turned around, and his gaze fell on Wen Sixue's lips.
Wen Sixue had bitten a small piece off there, and a bead of bright red blood clung to her pale pink lips, like a wild rose suddenly blooming in the snow.
The fox demon's instincts were instantly ignited; hunger, desire, and greed surged to its throat all at once.
Yun Zhan no longer restrained himself, staring intently at her lips, his voice low and husky yet direct: "May I touch your lips?"
Wen Sixue was stunned for a moment, then her eyes became unfocused, as if all her strength had been drained by those words.
She sat up slightly, closed her eyes, and pressed her lips to Yun Zhan's.
There was no hesitation, only willingness and longing.
In the instant of their kiss, Yun Zhan's tongue darted out, gently sweeping across the tiny wound, repeatedly licking the oozing blood beads, like a traveler who had been parched for a long time finally finding a spring of sweet water.
Each touch sent a jolt of electricity through her, and Wen Sixue couldn't help but tremble slightly. She wrapped her arms around Yun Zhan's neck even tighter, burying herself completely in that kiss that tasted of blood.
The blood droplets were swept away, the wound was gently held in place, a slight stinging sensation mixed with a tingling numbness.
Wen Sixue let out a very soft sob, like a tamed beast willingly offering its last bit of warmth.
Yun Zhan finally stepped back half an inch, forehead to forehead, their breaths mingling.
She raised her hand and gently brushed her fingertips across the reddened wound on Wen Sixue's lips, her voice so low that only the two of them could hear it.
"Thank you... I really need this."
Wen Sixue's eyes shone brightly in the dim light after the lights were turned off, like two small flames that had been lit.
"Is there anything else you need?" Wen Sixue asked softly, her voice trembling with apprehension.
She was terrified, terrified of losing Yun Zhan...
Yun Zhan's fingertips were still on the reddened wound on the corner of her lips: "To be honest, dual cultivation might be even more effective."
Before she finished speaking, Wen Sixue had already raised her hand, and the buttons on her clothes popped open one by one, the fabric sliding down her shoulders like moonlight being peeled away.
She was shirtless and leaned down, her long hair brushing against Yun Zhan's neck, bringing a slight itch and tingling sensation.
With a "snap," Wen Sixue turned off all the lights, and darkness instantly swallowed all the outlines.
Wen Sixue pushed Yun Zhan down onto the soft bed. The moment their skin touched, cold and heat, softness and tension intertwined in the darkness, forming a blurry mist.
"Then let's go. I've been prepared for a long time..."
