Chapter 1: Beauty and the Beast on the Beach

A few white clouds drift across the azure sky, waves crash against the golden sand, and a beautiful woman is by your side. If you also have a bottle of red wine, this is the life that many men dream of.

Unfortunately, there was no fine wine, only wild beasts.

The incident occurred three days ago when the company organized a team building activity and insisted that all employees participate in a week-long trip to the sea.

I'm just a security captain. I joined the company after being discharged from the military, and I haven't even been here for two months before I was pulled in.

But who would have thought that we would encounter a tsunami the very next day.

The dilapidated yacht the boss rented was capsized on the spot. When I woke up, I was already on a deserted island, with not a single hair around me.

After looking around, I spotted Xiao Qiang, the most beautiful woman in our company.

When they found her, Xiao Qiang was still unconscious on the beach. Her white T-shirt had been soaked by the seawater and was now transparent, revealing her sexy sea-blue lingerie.

Moving the gaze further down, there wasn't an ounce of fat on her lower abdomen, and a pair of fair, slender legs that were straight and long, making one's mouth water.

She's the manager's secretary, usually incredibly aloof and wouldn't even give a second glance to someone as insignificant as me. But now she's hiding behind me, clutching my clothes tightly, completely oblivious to the fact that my arm is already nestled in her embrace.

Why?

Because there are wolves on this island! They're black and gray, and although they're smaller than jungle wolves, they're still wild animals!

Before I was discharged from the military, I fought a wolf in the Amazon rainforest and almost had my arm broken. Now, stranded on a desert island, without medicine or weapons, if I get injured, I probably won't even know how I died.

The sun was high in the sky, and I wiped the sweat from my brow, unsure whether it was from the heat or from nervousness.

When facing a wild animal, you must never look away, otherwise the beast will think you are a coward and will pounce on you and chase after you to bite.

After a brief standoff, Black Wolf seemed to have lost his composure, perhaps because he had never seen humans before and was facing two people alone.

I took the opportunity to yell and rush over. The black wolf was startled, tucked its tail between its legs and turned to run away.

I breathed a sigh of relief; this ordeal was finally over.

When she turned around, Xiao Qiang resumed her aloof demeanor and said she was thirsty.

Damn it, even if you were dying of thirst right now, there's nothing I can do.

I looked around; this deserted island is quite large, with a volcano in the middle, I don't know if it's alive or dead. But judging from the sulfurous smell in the air, it's very likely an active volcano.

I don't know how far this place is from the land, but it's obviously not in the shipping lanes. We haven't seen a single ship in so long. Whether we can get rescued depends on luck.

In such a godforsaken place, who are you trying to impress?

Seeing that I ignored her, Xiao Qiang got even more excited and ordered me, "Hey, Zhao Si, did you hear me? I'm thirsty, get me some water."

My name is Zhao Sihai, but people at the company nicknamed me Zhao Si, and over time, everyone started calling me that.

I said you want some water. Okay, speak properly and call me Brother Zhao.

Xiao Qiang's face immediately fell, and she threatened, "Do you believe I'll complain to the company manager?"

"Go ahead and report it now!" I was furious. "You should find the manager first. See that wolf? He probably came here after he had his way with your lover."

Hearing what I said, Xiao Qiang was immediately frightened, but because of her pride, she stood there by herself.

Fine, let him argue then, I'm too lazy to pay him any attention.

I judged that there were more than just the two of us on this island; we must have drifted here with the ocean currents after the tsunami ended. That's why my throat was very dry and burning, my mouth tasted bitter, and I had almost run out of saliva.

I estimate it floated for at least two or three days.

Even without Xiao Qiang saying it, I would have to find water quickly. A person can go three days without food, but not three days without water, or it will really kill them.

I hadn't taken two steps when I heard Xiao Qiang call out to me from behind: "Zhao Si, go..."

I turned around and glared at her.

Xiao Qiang quickly changed her tune, her expression shifting faster than flipping through a book: "Brother Zhao, where are you going?"

"I'm going to get some water, do you want to come with me?"

She nodded like a chick pecking at rice; she was genuinely scared.

There was a forest not far away, but I dared not venture too deep, because there were wolves, and perhaps other wild animals as well.

I didn't see any fresh water at the edge of the forest, but I found three fruits and some gnawed pits on the ground.

Judging from the tooth marks left on it, it should be a rodent.

This fruit is not poisonous and can be eaten.

I handed one to Xiao Qiang and kept the other two for myself.

Xiao Qiang stared at the two fruits in my hand, looking a little unhappy.

I told you this fruit is for replenishing energy, but it won't help you. Can you lead us to water?

After saying that, Xiao Qiang's tears started falling down her face, and she cried while eating.

"Hey, don't cry."

I have only one flaw: I'm terrified of women crying. I can't handle it when they cry.

"How about I give you another one? There are plenty of trees around here, you should be able to pick another one."

Xiao Qiang didn't want it, she just kept crying, and it got on my nerves. This was even scarier than the black wolf we just encountered.

Just then, I heard a rustling sound not far away, and the grass was moving. There was something inside!

"Stop crying!"

I rushed towards Xiao Qiang in one stride, only thinking about quickly covering her mouth, without noticing where my hands were.

The girl stared at me with wide eyes, incredulous, and struggled desperately.

I dragged her out of the woods and onto an open beach, where I finally saw what had been in the bushes: a wild boar.

Wild boars are far more ferocious than wolves. They're like reckless idiots, charging at anyone who enters their territory. And their hides are incredibly thick; most wild animals can't beat them. A bite from their tusks can shatter bones.

Caught off guard, Xiao Qiang broke free of my hand, turned around, and slapped me across the face: "You scoundrel!"

I was stunned by the beating and yelled at her, "What the hell are you doing? Can't you see I'm saving you?!"

Xiao Qiang then saw the wild boar in the woods and instinctively hid behind me, blushing as she said that I had grabbed her chest and that she thought I was going to do something to her.

I glanced at her; the spot where she had been holding on was still a bit wrinkled, and her clothes were almost transparent from the sweat.

She quickly covered her chest with both hands, glared at me, and said irritably, "What are you looking at?"

I deliberately tried to scare her: "You've reminded me, there are only the two of us here, so no one should care what I do to you, right?"

"You...you mustn't do anything rash..."

Xiao Qiang was crying as she backed away. I was puzzled. Wasn't she about to dehydrate? Why was she still crying so much?

It's true that women are made of water.

"Alright, I wouldn't do it now. I haven't eaten for two or three days, and if I exercise, I really don't want to live anymore."

Xiao Qiang's face turned from red to black, as if she had been greatly insulted: "Zhao Sihai, you're a fucking bastard!"

I gave her a strange look and asked, "So what exactly do you mean? You can't do it, and you can't not do it. Why are you such a difficult woman to please?"

She stomped her foot in anger and turned to leave.

But before I could take two steps, I saw a black wolf on the beach not far away and quickly retreated behind me.

I saw it too; that beast is haunting us, it keeps following us.

Wolves are cunning and clever. He knew that he might not be able to win in a head-on fight, so he waited for me to run out of energy before coming up to take what was at hand.

I didn't know if there were any wolves around, and I had no intention of teasing Xiao Qiang any further, so I urged her to hurry up and leave.

I walked along the beach for about half an hour and picked up two crabs, three scallops, and less than half a pound of seaweed. The black wolf was no longer behind me, so I guess I had shaken it off for now.

The wolf has a keen sense of smell, and I was afraid it would follow me again at night, so I had Xiao Qiang and I walk out into the sea.

Having not eaten for two days and having just experienced a fright, Xiao Qiang said she couldn't walk anymore after a while.

To be honest, I'm really impressed that she's managed to keep going this far; I'm completely exhausted myself.

The sun has already set below the horizon and will likely disappear again in about two hours. The jungle is even more dangerous at night; who knows what might roam there? Finding fresh water today is out of the question.

I kept the two fruits and gave one to Xiao Qiang. Then we found a rocky beach and rested in a sheltered spot.

She took it but didn't eat it, and started crying again.

I said, "Stop crying, or you'll really die of thirst."

I should have kept quiet, because once I did, Xiao Qiang cried even louder.

I reassured them, "Don't worry, the search and rescue team must have already set off and will definitely find us."

After crying for a while, she was probably too tired and fell asleep leaning against the rocks.

I ate the fruit, glanced towards the woods, and prepared to find some dry branches and grass to start a fire. Since there was no fresh water, I would have to distill seawater to drink; a living person can't just die from holding their urine.

In just a short while, I ate two more scallops and a crab raw, and felt my strength return. I left the rest here to roast over a fire for Xiao Qiang.

Half an hour later, I emerged from the woods and returned to the rocky beach. Just as I put down the firewood and hay I had gathered, I felt something rush into my arms, and heard a soft, sobbing sound.

"Where did you go? I thought you left me behind."

The woman was terrified. I didn't scold her. I gently patted her back and comforted her, saying, "I just went to gather some firewood to start a fire. Don't be afraid. I was planning to do something for you. How could I just leave like this?"

Upon hearing this, Xiao Qiang burst into laughter through her tears, though with a hint of anger. She punched my chest with her small fist and cursed, "Vulgar."

I helped her sit down, not naively assuming she had feelings for me. Humans are social animals; she was just terrified and wanted someone to lean on. When she comes to her senses and realizes what she did, she'll probably regret it terribly.

I'm not a saint, but I'm not a despicable person either. I would never do something like taking advantage of someone's power.

Of course, if she secretly falls for me, I wouldn't mind having a fierce battle on this open beach.

I learned how to make fire by rubbing sticks together from my comrades back then. When the flames started to burn, Xiao Qiang finally smiled, her face which had been ashen.

Fire represents hope, and the development of human civilization began with learning to use fire.

I handed her the remaining crabs, scallops, and seaweed, telling her to grill them herself while I went down into the sea to catch a couple of fish.

No one has ever set foot here before. The fish in the sea are easy to catch. I carried two sharpened wooden sticks and caught four fish in no time. That's enough for tonight's meal.

Back at the rocky beach, I saw Xiao Qiang sitting on the ground with her arms wrapped around her knees, staring blankly at the flames.

There were grilled crabs and scallops next to her, but there was not enough seaweed.

When she saw me return, she quickly stood up, handed me the crab, and said, "Brother Zhao, eat more to regain your strength."

Seeing her forced smile, I sighed and replied, "I've already eaten. You can eat. You don't need to pretend. There are only the two of us here. Do you think I don't know what kind of person you usually are?"

Xiao Qiang's smile froze instantly, and she gritted her teeth and said she understood.

I was wondering what she had figured out when suddenly something sea-blue was thrown at my face.

"You just want to sleep with me, don't you? Come on, but don't tell anyone when you get back to the company."
