Chapter 178 Gunfight with the Wolf Pack

My heart immediately jumped into my throat; wolves are known for holding grudges.

There's an old saying that goes, "If a wolf turns back, it's either to seek revenge or to repay a debt of gratitude."

But now we have no gratitude left, only hatred. We killed their leader, so the pack must hold a grudge against us.

Moreover, now that they have discovered where we live, they will definitely come up to retaliate against us as soon as they get the chance.

We'll be bringing so many women and so many useless colleagues with us, so we're definitely at a disadvantage.

Chen Jian was also nervous, his forehead covered in sweat: "What should we do, Brother Sihai?"

I was about to speak when Wang Ping's calm voice came from behind me: "What else can we do? We can only fight!"

Chen Jian stared at Wang Ping in disbelief: "Brother Wang, do you know we don't have that many guns right now? Besides, how can these wolves just stand there obediently and let you shoot them?"

Before Chen Jian could finish speaking, the pack of wolves down the mountain suddenly launched an attack. They howled in pain as they charged toward the mountaintop like madmen.

This time, the mountaintop was much gentler than the cave where I had stayed before. The wolves climbed up as if it were flat ground, and soon they were already halfway up the mountain.

I was startled and kicked Chen Jian.

"Quick, stop your damn nonsense! They're attacking! If you keep nagging, you won't be able to take Liu Jiaojiao out to play anymore!"

Chen Jian let out a wail, but he had already raised his gun and swiftly fired a shot at the wolves that had run up the mountainside.

The wolves were still afraid of the guns after all; as soon as the gunshot rang out, they all took a few steps back.

Chen Jian's face lit up with joy: "I reckon these beasts definitely won't be able to break through. After all, we have guns and rocks on the mountaintop. I don't believe they're all reckless."

Wang Ping remained calm: "Don't rush. You two, just guard this exit. I'll have the others watch the other roadsides so we can be prepared if the wolves try to attack us."

I nodded. Wang Ping was very composed; at least he was much more level-headed than Chen Jian. I felt at ease letting him handle things.

Chen Jian and I just need to guard this opening.

Wang Ping quickly swayed everyone, but these male colleagues were all trembling with fear. However, Wang Ping shouted at them and tried to reason with them.

"You must understand that this mountaintop is our only way out. If you can't hold the surrounding paths, we'll all be doomed once these wolves attack. If you want to return to the city alive and see your loved ones, I hope you can put in your utmost effort to get through this disaster. Besides, this isn't the first time we've encountered wolves. As long as we can stay calm, these wolves are nothing to fear!"

After being persuaded by Wang Ping for a long time, these male colleagues all picked up pieces of wood and stood guard at the relatively flat openings.

Wang Ping, now armed, stood on the other side, carefully observing the movements below.

After several unsuccessful attacks, the pack of wolves seemed to be considering giving up.

Chen Jian wiped away his cold sweat and said with lingering fear, "Do you think these wolves also know they can't fight their way up? I reckon if we hold out a little longer, they'll leave, right?"

I shook my head. It would be troublesome if we really let them go.

"You keep watch for me, and I'll see if I can kill a few more."

Just as Chen Jian and I were talking, a burst of gunfire suddenly rang out behind us. I turned around and saw Wang Ping crouching on the ground, firing his gun down the mountain.

Chen Jian cried out in despair, "My God, could it be that something has happened to Wang Ping?"

After saying that, he quickly turned around and walked towards Wang Ping. Immediately afterwards, I heard Chen Jian shout: "Brother Sihai, it's no good! Another group is coming over here. They're probably all in cahoots! We're completely surrounded now."

I told Chen Jianxian not to rush, and carefully observed what was happening on my side.

The wolves on my side stood on the rocks one by one, but they no longer showed any intention of attacking.

But I dared not let my guard down. I carefully aimed the gun at one of the wolves closest to me and pulled the trigger instantly. But who knew that the wolf, perhaps having witnessed me kill the white wolf earlier, reacted extremely quickly and dodged my shot by simply turning to the side.

Meanwhile, intense gunfire began to erupt behind Wang Ping and Chen Jian.

I was incredibly nervous, but I couldn't move out of this area.

All I could hear was their howling and cursing behind me.

My situation was much more stable than theirs. I didn't know why these wolves weren't attacking me, and I was wondering about it. After a long while, I suddenly heard Chen Jian shouting at me from behind.

"Brother Sihai, Wang Ping can't hold on anymore. My marksmanship isn't good enough. Come and switch with me."

I answered Chen Jian's call, and Chen Jian quickly moved to my side.

After I crouched down and ran to Wang Ping's side, I looked up at the foot of the mountain and immediately felt overwhelmed.

Because Wang Ping had bombed about 20 wolves, they were now lying on the rocks with fierce eyes, ready to seize any opening and attack.

Wang Ping wiped the sweat from his brow: "There are just too many wolves in Sihai. I'm running out of bullets. How many can you kill?"

"Don't rush. Quickly get everyone to move the stones. We'll use the old method: smash them down with stones. Once they panic, I can take the opportunity to kill them. Every one killed is a good one. I don't believe these wolves are all fearless. They'll panic when their companions die. Once we drive them away, things will be easier."

Wang Ping agreed and quickly turned around. Not long after, he called all his colleagues over.

The women all had pale faces, but fortunately, we had all been through this several times before, so they were all relatively stable.

Xu Wei and the others immediately collected the rubble on our mountaintop and quickly threw it down one by one. Soon the wolf pack was scattered, and I took the opportunity to shoot two wolves dead with two shots.

The third shot went astray, but I did manage to wound the wolf's leg, which bled profusely, and it howled as it retreated.

While I was dealing with these wolves, Chen Jian's side also started firing shots.

I looked at Wang Ping and said, "You go help him first, I'll take care of this."

Wang Ping nodded and quickly rushed over to Chen Jian's side.

Instead of scattering into the woods as I had initially predicted, the wolves on my side became even more agitated, charging forward like madmen.
