Chapter 428 The Snipe and the Clam

Xiao He and his gang were still attacking the bird, and that bird was flapping its wings and getting closer and closer to us.

Every time he flapped his enormous wings, he would create a cloud of dust, making our vision extremely difficult.

Wang Ping stood beside me, and Chen Jian tugged at my arm; both of them were clearly a little scared.

After all, even though we've been through so many troubles, we've never been afraid of this big bird, even by normal wild boars and wolves.

I didn't know what to do for a moment, but saving lives was the most important thing right now.

I quickly looked at Wang Ping and our group: "Quickly, back up!"

Immediately afterwards, I shouted loudly to Xiao He and his group, "Help him up, let's retreat to the mountains first!"

Xiao He and his group were obviously very quick to act. Yang Rui even helped Xiao He up and then quickly retreated into the mountains with us.

But the forest was so vast that the surrounding mountains seemed endless. I led the way, while Wang Ping and Chen Jian brought up the rear.

The gunshots from inside the woods and the flapping of the giant bird's wings were almost deafening.

But when it comes to living, none of these things seem so important.

I ran ahead quickly, holding a machete, and knocked down all the branches of the evergreen trees around me.

But after running for a few minutes, the bird was still relentlessly chasing us. It seemed that even if we ran into the mountains, this bird would not give up. It would definitely catch us all, and then we would all die.

If that doesn't work, then we'll have to try something else...

I immediately handed the machete to one of our colleagues and looked at him: "Quick, keep leading the way. Do you remember that mountain we passed on the way here? Let's go there!"

The male colleague hurriedly took the machete and quickly ran to the front to clear a path.

I ran to the back of Xiao He's group and saw Lin Xubo in the crowd. However, he was covered in tattered clothes, and it was clear that he wasn't having a good time with Xiao He and his group.

I ignored his current situation and instead looked at my group of foreign bearded men: "If shooting doesn't work, then let's stall for time, engage in a tug-of-war, and try to keep him away from us. Otherwise, one swipe of his sharp claws will kill us all."

Xiao He and his group were seasoned veterans. Although I spoke hastily, they quickly grasped the meaning of my words.

I grabbed a gun, led two men, and rushed out of the woods.

Wang Ping and the others, along with Xiao He, continued heading deeper into the woods.

Meanwhile, the giant crab outside the woods was still desperately trying to get into the forest, but it was too big and the trees were relatively dense.

With such a massive body, there was no way for the crab to break through, so it became extremely agitated.

When I rushed out of the woods, I saw the crab waving its huge pincers at the edge of the forest, as if in a provocative manner.

Meanwhile, our gunshots attracted the bird's attention. Wang Ping and the others had already taken advantage of the gap and run far away, so the bird's attention was entirely focused on the three of us.

I immediately left the woods and ran towards the spot not far from the crab. There were still countless small crabs on the ground, but I couldn't care less about that now.

"Quick, shoot at that bird and lure it out!"

I immediately yelled at Xiao He and his two companions, and the three of us immediately formed a triangle defensive formation and started shooting at the bird with all our might.

I couldn't accurately shoot the bird in the head, so now I could only shoot randomly to attract its attention with the loud noise.

The crab can't get in, but the bird can get out. Let's try another tactic: let them fight it out.

Because either of these two enormous things would be a disaster for people like us.

Xiao He and his friend were also very accurate shooters. Although we couldn't hit the Angry Bird's vital parts, shooting indiscriminately like that was still a form of damage to the bird.

I was getting angrier and angrier at that bird. It flapped its wings and actually flew straight over the forest and into the air.

At that moment, the crab, which had been desperately trying to rush into the woods, was also attracted by the bird. After its attention paused for a moment, it immediately extended its huge pincers and flew into the air.

I immediately looked around and then back before I realized that there was a huge rock lying across the sea about a hundred meters away from us.

At this point, this stone is probably the only thing we can rely on.

I immediately looked at the two people around me and shouted, "Back off! Hide first!"

The two men immediately nodded in understanding, and the three of us, while keeping a watchful eye on our surroundings, quickly retreated in a triangular formation toward the rock.

At that moment, the bird finally spotted the crab. Its feathers bristled, and its claws snapped into hooks as it lunged at the crab.

With a crackling sound, it was clear that even if the bird was powerful, the mutated crab was now like wearing an iron shield; it would be difficult to penetrate its shell.

But the bird was persistent, attacking again and again, which angered the crab. The two huge mutated creatures started attacking each other.

The three of us finally reached the rock, and I took a deep breath.

Looking towards the side of the rock into the woods, Wang Ping and the others were no longer visible; they must have already run far away.

If Wang Ping and his group can escape, then the rest will be much easier.

The three of us hid behind this rock, not daring to make a sound, as the dense swarms of small crabs on the ground quickly attacked us.

Furthermore, our crouching position accelerated the speed at which the crabs crawled onto us.

We had no choice but to hold our breath and help each other brush off the crabs, while also keeping an eye on the two giant beasts that were currently fighting.

And so, after about an hour, the winner was finally decided: the crab had its eyes gouged out by the bird.

The bird had its leg broken by the crab. At this point, both were badly injured, a complete loss.

Our situation isn't much better either, since these little crabs seem to have mutated, as their claws have become exceptionally hard.

Even the camouflage uniforms worn by two of Xiao He's companions were torn to shreds by the crab's claws.

Seeing the bird with its limp still wailing, and the crab without eyes wandering aimlessly on the beach like a headless fly, I finally breathed a sigh of relief.

I finally understand the proverb, "When the snipe and the clam fight, the fisherman benefits." Although we were greatly frightened just now, we have gained these two giant beasts for free, so it's not a loss!
