Chapter Ninety-Nine: Barbarians

Chen Jian ran ahead first, looking as panicked as if he had seen some wild beast.

Meanwhile, the foreigners were firing guns so loudly that it made my heart race.

"Zhao Sihai, you guard your cave. I'm going to support Chen Jian and the others!"

As Wang Ping spoke, he stood up, intending to descend the mountain.

But I grabbed him.

"No! You're not familiar with the terrain on this mountain. I'll go pick them up. You've seen several of them before!"

Wang Ping glanced at me and nodded very solemnly.

I immediately ran down the other side of the mountain, thankfully the gunfire outside was really loud.

Therefore, my shouting didn't seem very noticeable.

I yelled at Chen Jian and the others, and they ran toward me.

They had to call out several times before Chen Jian and the others heard them.

Chen Jian looked up at me, nodded frantically, grabbed a female colleague, and staggered towards the woods.

But just as Chen Jian and his group arrived, I suddenly heard a dispute coming from the foreigners' side.

But it was already too dark for me to see anything clearly, and we didn't dare to go out in this situation. Who knew if the group of people who came out were the same people who had seen those strange footprints in the rainy night last time?

Bai Wei was at the back of the crowd. He didn't say anything when he saw me, but he still nodded at me.

Chen Jian was quite familiar with this cave, but we didn't dare to go in front of it, so we had to climb up the somewhat steep rock wall at the back of the cave little by little.

By the time we had settled everyone into the cave, it had become extremely crowded.

Wang Ping, gun in hand and on high alert, only breathed a sigh of relief when he saw us return.

Some of my female colleagues were immediately pulled inside by Wang Xiaoxiao and the others, while Wang Ping and Chen Jian stood beside me.

Although Bai Wei couldn't speak, his expression was rather unpleasant.

He looked at me and whispered, "It looks like a group of savages. When we were sitting on the boat, we heard those foreigners firing guns. We thought you guys had a conflict with them. When we came out, we saw those dark-skinned people wearing animal fur coming out. It wasn't too dark then, but we can't see clearly now. Let's hide. If we go out now, we'll be in even worse shape than those foreigners."

Of course I know that, so I have absolutely no intention of going out.

Several male colleagues stood in the cave, trembling with fear, still holding daggers and sticks in their hands, looking at the cave's furnishings with curiosity.

Envy was evident on everyone's faces.

However, I wasn't in the mood to show off my achievements at that moment, as I was somewhat worried.

If that guy outside really is a barbarian, then after they deal with the foreigner, they'll definitely come here to deal with us.

So the most important thing now is to wait and see. The best outcome would be for these foreigners to be too flustered to bother us.

Another hope is that Bai Wei and his group weren't spotted by the barbarians when they ran from the side of the mountain.

But even after thinking about it this way, I still felt uneasy.

Perhaps those people dressed in animal fur are barbarians, but that doesn’t mean they lack intelligence.

Bai Wei and his crew's ship has been docked here for so long, and there are signs of human activity and survival everywhere on and off the ship. How could they not know we were there?

If these barbarians manage to wipe out those foreigners, given Lin Xubo's fickle nature, he might just betray us to save his own life.

Unless he gets killed by those barbarians.

I turned to look at my male colleagues, waved to them, and then instructed Wang Xiaoxiao to dim the firelight in the cave to the lowest setting and block the wooden door of the cave.

"A few of us will go up to the top of the mountain, while the rest will stay at the cave entrance to guard it. Remember, as long as those barbarians don't rush towards our mountain, we can't make any moves, lest we get ourselves into trouble, understand?"

Chen Jian nodded quickly: "Brother Sihai, I'll take a few male colleagues up to the top of the mountain. You and Brother Wang can stay here and take care of these female colleagues."

Chen Jian has really impressed me lately. He has transformed from being timid at the beginning to being able to stand on his own now, which makes me very happy.

I told Chen Jian and the others to be careful. Chen Jian nodded and led a few male colleagues to quickly and carefully exit the cave and climb to the top of the mountain.

The view from the mountaintop is better, but I don't feel comfortable leaving Xiao Qiang, Xu Wei, and the others to guard the cave.

After Chen Jian left, I had Wang Ping, Bai Wei, and the others lie prone at the cave entrance and carefully observe the situation below the mountain.

The group of barbarians had surrounded the foreigners' ship. They seemed to be holding stick-like weapons, but it was hard to tell exactly what they were.

Fortunately, the campfires around the foreigners hadn't been kicked away, so they still reflected some of their current situation.

I saw that the group of foreigners had all been forced onto the boat, and the crowd seemed to be in a panic, but I couldn't spot Lin Xubo at all.

Just then, one of the foreigners at the front raised his gun, seemingly approaching a savage with a bunch of random things on his head.

I couldn't hear what they were saying, but I could clearly hear the women among the group of foreigners crying and screaming.

A sense of impending doom suddenly welled up in my heart.

If these barbarians really kill all these foreigners, damn it, they'll come and make trouble for us next!

Our weapons are inferior to those of the foreigners, and our situation is nowhere near as good as theirs. After all, they have more men, while we are mostly composed of frail girls.

Wang Ping leaned close to me and whispered, "Sihai, I don't think we can just stand by and do nothing. Although these foreigners aren't good people, they are still educated. They won't dare to kill us unless we push them to the limit. But the natives who originally lived on this deserted island are a different story. They've been ruling here for a long time, and our arrival is like an invasion. So they definitely won't allow us to live here."

Wang Ping and I were thinking the same thing, and I nodded in agreement.

"But how can we go to rescue them in this situation? We only have two guns. What are our chances of survival if we go down there?"

Wang Ping gritted his teeth, clearly knowing that what I was talking about was the most difficult thing at the moment.

At this moment, Bai Wei coldly snorted: "Hmph, if these foreigners die on this beach, no one will be competing with us for food. When we were here before, those natives didn't come either. Maybe they just thought these chattering foreigners were annoying. I advise you two not to bother with them."
