Chapter Twenty-Seven: Let's Do It!

Without thinking twice, I practically jumped down from the tree, grabbed a stick from the ground, and hurled it at the thing.

Xiao Qiang was covering her face with her hands, letting out a terrified and shrill scream.

I used all my strength, and when I hit it with the stick, that thing suddenly let out a strange cry and bounced away quickly.

I quickly helped Xiao Qiang up, and then I saw that her arm was covered in blood, and I didn't know if the bone was broken.

Xiao Qiang was terrified; her body went limp like a puddle of water, and she trembled violently.

"Don't be afraid, I'm here!"

"Sihai, behind you!"

Before I could finish speaking, Xiao Qiang suddenly screamed in alarm, but before I could turn around, I felt a sharp pain on my back as something heavy pressed down on me.

I even smelled a strange, fishy odor.

I shoved Xiao Qiang away abruptly, gritted my teeth, endured the excruciating pain, and swung the stick back at her.

But that thing was very clever. It grabbed me and immediately bounced off me, then landed on the ground, baring its menacing white teeth at me from a distance.

Only then could I see the thing in front of me clearly. It looked like a brownish-red cat with a stout body, long and thick limbs, a tuft of black hair standing up on the tips of its ears, and long hair hanging down on its cheeks.

That damn thing is a lynx!

This thing is quite deadly. I guess it came here looking for food and got the idea to harm Xiao Qiang when it saw her.

That's really asking for death!

I yelled and swung the stick at it, but the lynx was incredibly fast. I missed and it enraged me, making strange gurgling noises and pacing cautiously, waiting for an opportunity to attack me.

If I were alone, I probably would have run away long ago, but Xiao Qiang is still here. I'm dragging her along, so there's no hope of running away. I can only fight for my life.

I took a deep breath, trying my best to maintain the posture of protecting Xiao Qiang behind me.

The lynx was clearly losing patience; it was becoming increasingly agitated, pacing back and forth.

"You go first, I'll cover your retreat!"

I stared at the lynx and gave instructions to Xiao Qiang behind me, but she didn't say anything for a long time. My heart tightened. Could she have been bitten to death by the lynx?

Concern can cloud judgment, and I turned my head slightly to check on Xiao Qiang's condition. But as soon as I made a move, the lynx launched an attack and pounced on me again.

Although I was prepared this time, I was still bitten on the shoulder by the lynx. A sharp pain shot through me, and I saw Xiao Qiang lying behind me.

She lay on the ground, pale-faced, her fate unknown.

A sudden pang of sadness gripped my heart. I quickly bent over, pulled a dagger from my pocket, and, despite the pain, stabbed it behind me.

I felt a warm current flow down my shoulder, and I knew I had been stabbed.

I thought that once this thing was injured, it would let go, so we could both escape, which would be great. But who knew that this lynx was determined to die together with me? After I stabbed it, it not only didn't let go, but instead bit even deeper with a gurgling sound.

I felt pain and despair. With almost no medical equipment available, such an injury was practically a death sentence.

But when I saw Xiao Qiang lying on the ground, her life hanging in the balance, I took a deep breath and, with all my might, plunged the dagger in again.

The pain in my back had begun to go numb, and a few minutes later, the lynx suddenly fell off my back.

My legs buckled and I collapsed to my knees.

The lynx isn't dead yet; my knife just now pierced its neck, and it's struggling to run away.

But I'm not a pushover either. After bullying me like this, do you think I'd let it live?

With a swift motion, he slashed its neck, and a spurt of blood gushed out; it was now completely dead.

I finally breathed a sigh of relief and quickly crawled to Xiao Qiang's side. I touched my nose and then breathed a sigh of relief.

She was just scared unconscious.

However, the wound on his arm was shocking.

She's a young girl, wouldn't this leave her with a scar?

After a couple of minutes, I struggled to stand up, but I was still dizzy.

This is a symptom of excessive blood loss.

However, there are lynxes in this forest, so it is not advisable to stay here for long. We should leave quickly.

I braced myself, picked up Xiao Qiang, grabbed the mushroom, and tried to leave.

But after walking a few steps, I looked again at the dead lynx. Its flesh, though not very tasty, could be used as bedding.

He immediately turned back, grabbed the lynx's carcass, and walked out of the woods.

The more I walked, the more dizzy I became, and my legs felt incredibly weak.

But I dared not stop, and could only struggle to move forward step by step.

I don't know how long I walked, so long that I could no longer see the road clearly, and suddenly everything went black and I passed out...

I was woken up by the pain.

My back was burning with a piercing pain, so painful that I couldn't help but groan.

My mouth was still very thirsty, and I wanted to drink water, but I couldn't say a word for a long time.

My eyelids felt incredibly heavy, and before long I drifted off to sleep again.

I don't know how long I was half asleep and half awake when I suddenly felt a cool sensation slide down my lips and into my mouth.

I started swallowing frantically, and it wasn't until a while later that I felt satisfied.

I struggled to open my eyes and saw Xiao Qiang holding a leaf, her eyes red-rimmed, and she looked much more haggard.

"You're awake?"

When Xiao Qiang saw me open my eyes, her voice was trembling with sobs. She spoke in a trembling voice, and tears streamed down her face like water from a burst dam.

"Don't cry, I'm not dead."

After I finished speaking, I realized that my voice was hoarse, like a broken airlock, making a lot of noises.

Xiao Qiang wiped away her tears: "You've been asleep for three days, you almost scared me to death..."

Three days? Is that long?

I closed my eyes and gently raised my arm, but found that it hurt terribly as soon as I moved it, so I gave up.

"I'm sorry to have worried you. How is your injury? Don't worry, I'll go get the medicine from Bai Wei in a bit. You'll be fine."

"What time is it? You're still thinking about me. As long as you're alright, I'm fine. But if you die, how am I supposed to live?"

Tears welled up in Xiao Qiang's eyes. After she finished speaking hastily, a blush finally appeared on her pale face, and she lowered her head somewhat awkwardly.

I was taken aback, but couldn't help teasing her: "What, if I die, are you going to commit suicide for love?"

Xiao Qiang looked up at me, her lips bitten until they turned pale, and Bai Tianwen remained silent.

I rarely see her fail, which I find amusing.

But this woman is very petty, and I dare not really make her angry. Just as I was about to change the subject, Xiao Qiang nodded seriously.

"If you die, I won't live on alone!"
