Chapter Fifty-Eight: Bloodstained Bones

As soon as Xu Wei said this, the group of people around her immediately became alert.

Lin Xubo was the most timid, and he was now desperately trying to squeeze into the center of the crowd.

I impatiently shoved him, snatched the torch from his hand, and took a few steps forward.

"Xiao Qiang, is that you?"

But after asking twice, the dark figure did not answer.

I gripped the gun in my hand, carefully held the torch, and took a few steps toward the shadow. The shadow seemed to be a person sitting on the ground, curled up.

But if it really is Xiao Qiang, after all the trouble we've gone to to find her, even if she's still angry, she should have calmed down by now.

But why didn't she say anything?

A bad feeling suddenly welled up in my heart.

Just then, Wang Xiaoxiao suddenly grabbed me from behind: "Sihai, you should be careful. She doesn't seem right."

Xu Wei, who was behind me, also came over and grabbed my hand tightly.

"Sister Xiao Qiang, we know we were wrong. Please don't be angry. Let us take you back. It's already so late, and you're still hungry. Sister Xiao Xiao has already made your favorite soup noodles in the cave. Go back and wash up so you can rest early!"

Bai Wei, who was standing nearby, got anxious. Holding a torch, he took a step and ran towards the dark figure before we could even call out to him.

"Xiao Xiao, if you've been mistreated there, why don't you come back and live with me? Ah!"

Before Bai Wei could finish speaking, I heard him suddenly scream in terror. He then quickly backed away, tripped over a stone, and fell to the ground, extinguishing his torch.

He retreated hastily, which startled us.

Xu Wei's palms were sweating so badly she almost jumped into my arms.

Wang Xiaoxiao, still trying to appear calm, grabbed Liu Jiaojiao and looked at Bai Wei anxiously, asking, "What's wrong? Why are you yelling like that?"

Bai Wei scrambled to our feet in a disheveled state, his legs trembling terribly. He pointed at the dark figure, his mouth trembling, and couldn't utter a word for a long time.

Seeing him like this, I was extremely anxious. Could it be that Xiao Qiang was already dead?

Ignoring the danger, he raised his gun and held a torch, then walked towards the figure.

But when I got to that spot far away, I found that what was huddled there wasn't a person, but a pile of stones.

But the way these stones are arranged looks so much like a person, it's almost as if someone did it on purpose.

I was wondering why Bai Wei was so frightened by this pile of stones when I turned around to look around and discovered that there were several white bones on the ground.

Bloody flesh was still attached to the bones, and a pungent stench immediately filled the air. I finally understood why Bai Wei had been so scared earlier.

Having served in the military, I was naturally not frightened by the scene before me, but seeing these bones only intensified my bad premonition.

Seeing that I was standing there without reacting, some of the bolder people came closer.

When they saw the pile of bones at my feet, everyone around me gasped in shock.

Even though Wang Xiaoxiao is usually very carefree, her legs went weak at this moment, and she leaned against my shoulder.

I quickly helped her up, and Wang Xiaoxiao frowned, her voice trembling slightly: "This, this is Xiao Qiang's bones? Could it be that she has been eaten by the wild animals here?"

As soon as Wang Xiaoxiao said this, Xu Wei, who was standing next to her, suddenly started to sob softly.

"Sister Xiao Qiang is so willful. Knowing how dangerous this place is, how could she run away and stay away for so long? Tell me, why won't she listen to our advice?"

The group of people around remained silent for a long time, feeling more sympathy than fear.

After all, we were stranded on this deserted island. Although life was tough, we had food and drink, and we could have escaped this misery by waiting for rescue.

But because of Xiao Qiang's willfulness, she is now dead, even though we have already established a foothold on this island.

This is a blow to everyone.

Two of Bai Wei's male colleagues looked at me, then at Bai Wei's grim face, and whispered, "Since Secretary Xiao is dead, I think we should go back. This place is too dark and dangerous. If another wild animal comes out, we'll all be buried with her."

Bai Wei is a ruthless person. Once he saw the bone, he was convinced it was Xiao Qiang. He was no longer afraid. Although his legs were still very weak, he turned to look at me and agreed with his male colleague's opinion.

“I also think we should leave. This place is too dangerous, and it’s already so dark.”

But I was unwilling to give up. After all, if Xiao Qiang was still alive, wouldn't leaving her now mean even less hope?

I ignored Bai Wei, squatted down, picked up a dry branch next to me, and examined the bones.

Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that it was indeed human bone, but it didn't resemble a woman's bone because the leg bone was very long and thick.

Having known Xiao Qiang for so long, I know that although she is also very tall, her calf bones are definitely not that long.

With this discovery, I was suddenly overjoyed and hope surged within me.

It seems that Xiao Qiang is not dead yet; at the very least, the remains of the dead are not hers!

I patted Xu Wei, who was standing next to me and still crying, and then turned to look at Bai Wei.

“This bone probably doesn’t belong to Xiao Qiang. I think we should keep going and look around some more. What do you guys think?”

Feng Wei and his colleagues looked at me with suspicion and apprehension.

"You can tell if it's Xiao Qiang's just from these bones? Are you kidding me? Did she have her name engraved on her bones?"

Upon learning that Xiao Qiang might still be alive, I was already incredibly anxious.

There was no time to waste with Bai Wei; his face immediately turned cold.

"Since we're already here, let's search together. Let's go back into this forest and take another look. If you really want to go back on your own, don't expect me to come and save you if you encounter wolves or wild boars on the way!"

After hearing what I said, my colleagues who hadn't originally planned to move forward immediately lowered their heads and whispered among themselves. Almost a few seconds later, Bai Wei and his group decided to follow us and continue moving forward.

We continued onward with our torches, walking for a few hundred meters. Suddenly, I heard a faint cry, seemingly calling for help.

Upon closer listening, the sound was actually coming from not far to our left.

In my haste, my steps quickened.

I held the torch and walked quickly forward, with Wang Xiaoxiao and Xu Wei following closely behind. Bai Wei and his group, although they didn't want to continue searching for Xiao Qiang with us, also followed us because they were afraid of dying.

I walked a long way, but I could only hear that voice echoing around me. I couldn't see anyone at all. Could it be that there are ghosts around here?
