Chapter 44 The True Immortals

After cooking the dumplings, Zhao Youliang placed the dumplings and "little dumplings" together on the dining table, then rested his chin on his hands and quietly watched the other person eat.

While watching, he talked to himself and recounted all his experiences over the past few days without holding anything back.

He spoke in great detail, and Xiaojiaozi listened intently.

The man and the mouse were like old friends, quiet and harmonious.

After the little mouse finished eating, Zhao Youliang finished speaking and carefully wiped the little guy's mouth and paws clean.

“Little Dumpling, if this shabby shop kills me, if you’re craving dumplings, go to Sister Yingchun’s house. I’ll talk to her about it.”

"I'll try to leave her as much money as possible; it should be enough for you to eat for a while."

After hearing Zhao Youliang's almost will-like instructions, the little guy became noticeably more subdued.

It chirped and squeaked around Zhao Youliang for a while, then turned and ran out the door.

By the time Zhao Youliang chased after him to warn him about the vehicles, the little guy had already disappeared.

Only the big yellow dog, who had been drying eggs at the door, seemed to be deep in thought as he looked at Zhao Youliang.

Zhao Youliang was clearly terrified of this rogue dog, and hurriedly bowed and scraped.

"Hey, Dog Bro, you're awake? Want some dumplings too?"

"I'll cook it for you right now, okay?"

The big yellow dog ignored the fawning Zhao Youliang, got up, shook off its tangled fur, and wagged its tail as it patrolled the streets.

Time flies, and before we knew it, the sun was setting.

Zhao Youliang closed the shop door according to the rules and went to the backyard alone.

He wanted to see if those evil spirits had returned. If they had, he would beg them to help Granny Wenmi and the others that night.

Unfortunately, those slouching figures were not seen on the ancestral tablets.

Seeing this, Zhao Youliang couldn't help but complain softly, "Oh dear, you're really unreliable. We've been supporting you for so many days for nothing."

As they were talking, they suddenly felt a cold wind blowing, and the evil spirit who had just been complained about appeared sneakily in the wind.

Both sides were taken aback: Zhao Youliang was worried that they might overhear what he said and then retaliate against him.

Xie Tangxian was surprised that Zhao Youliang was still alive.

"You... why are you still alive? The underworld officials didn't take you with them?!"

Xie Tangxian's words made Zhao Youliang very unhappy: What, does my being alive affect your mood?

However, having lived at the bottom of society for a long time, Zhao Youliang had long since developed the ability to hide his emotions, so he did not show them.

Feigning surprise, he exclaimed, "Oh, my esteemed immortals, you've finally returned!"

"Why did you leave so suddenly last night? You haven't eaten yet, have you? I'll offer incense for you right away!"

While offering incense, Zhao Youliang deliberately broke off a third of the incense stick when Xie Tangxian wasn't paying attention.

A guy who only eats and doesn't work expects to be full? Bah!

Fortunately, the immortals were so preoccupied with why Zhao Youliang hadn't died that they didn't notice his little tricks.

Otherwise, a beating is inevitable.

"You brat, didn't you hear us talking to you?"

"Why didn't you die last night? Why didn't the ghost messengers take you with them?!"

It wasn't that Zhao Youliang was unwilling to answer the question; rather, he himself was puzzled.

Seeing that Zhao Youliang was stammering and refusing to speak, the evil immortals finally got angry.

The leader of the grasshopper spirits even revealed his physical form—a strange person who looked exactly like a grasshopper.

The strange man held a vine and raised his hand to lash out at Zhao Youliang's face.

"You little rascal, you won't behave unless I teach you a lesson!"

Zhao Youliang was just an ordinary person; how could he possibly escape the attack of Xie Tangxian?

Just as the vine was about to strike his face, a hand suddenly appeared and caught it in mid-air.

"stop!"

"How can you beat your own disciple without cause? You scoundrels will only tarnish the reputation of our shamanic tradition!"

The sudden appearance of the "person" terrified several evil spirits, while Zhao Youliang was overjoyed.

"Brother Huang!"

The person following Huang Jiaxian was Xiao Jiaozi, who had left that afternoon.

The little guy squeaked and climbed onto Zhao Youliang's shoulder, his face full of self-satisfaction.

Brother Huang first smiled and nodded at Zhao Youliang, then glared angrily at Xie Tangxian.

"Apologize to Youliang right now!"

The evil immortals, led by the grasshopper spirit, never dreamed that Zhao Youliang would know the direct descendants of the Huang family.

That's the Yellow family, one of the five great immortal families: Fox, Yellow, White, Willow, and Gray!

It should be noted that in the eyes of ordinary shamans, the Huang family is an absolutely high and mighty existence, equivalent to royalty.

Therefore, they are people we absolutely cannot afford to offend!

These evil spirits, while fearing Brother Huang, secretly resented Zhao Youliang:

Since you are friends with the direct descendants of the Huang family, why did you ask us to help you?

Traveling incognito? Are you deliberately playing us for fools?!

Despite his inner complaints, Xie Tangxian dared not disobey "Brother Huang's" words.

They hurriedly and in a chaotic manner bowed repeatedly to Zhao Youliang, begging for forgiveness.

Zhao Youliang, who lived at the bottom of society, dared not "spoil and pamper" others, fearing that they would retaliate against him in the future.

So he quickly bowed in return, saying, "It's alright, it's alright, we're all family."

Seeing Zhao Youliang's reaction, "Brother Huang" finally let the group of evil spirits go.

"You may all return to your places. From now on, remember to obey Quantum's commands and never disobey him again."

"Otherwise... humph!"

The evil spirits readily agreed, but the grasshopper spirit at the head cautiously inquired.

"Lord Huang, please tell us which branch we should be placed under."
