Chapter 46. Her initiative was ill-intentioned. ...

Although the two had been intimate quite a few times, Ji Wanyuan had basically never taken the initiative to get close to him since their first time, and she always frequently pushed him toward other people.

Even when it comes to intimacy that is "necessary" and "natural," she likes to make excuses, complaining that he takes too long or is too forceful, and she even kicks and scolds him.

In short, nothing ever went smoothly.

They were arguing just a moment ago, but now she's brought him his usual snacks and tea, snuggled into his lap, sat on his legs, looked into his eyes, and wrapped her arms around his neck.

Her thoughts, though not written on her face, were already reflected in her eyes.

It was because of what he said; ultimately, Ji Wanyuan was still worried about the Ji family.

besides……

Thinking of this, the man's eyes flickered, but he didn't reveal his thoughts completely. He didn't speak, letting her sit on his lap without making any movement or paying any attention to her.

Ji Wanyuan was initially quite calm, but after the man looked away, she became somewhat uneasy.

Wen Qiyan was so calm? Was he really that unmoved?

Has he lost interest in her, or is she mistaken?

Ji Wanyuan was somewhat skeptical. Every time he kissed her, he was incredibly forceful, as if he wanted to devour her whole. If he really wasn't interested now, why didn't he tell her to get lost?

Even though she had some confidence in her heart, Ji Wanyuan still couldn't help but panic.

She cleared her throat. "I had someone make your favorite Snow Mist Soup for my husband. Why don't you have some before you continue with your work?"

Unexpectedly, despite her kind words, Wen Qiyan ignored her completely, focusing only on writing his case files and leaving her hanging.

Ji Wanyuan glanced at the writing style of the man's actions and couldn't help but scoff inwardly, "What are you pretending for?"

She had little patience left, so she had to force herself to suppress her impatience and hold back the words she wanted to say to him, and forced a smile back at him.

"Husband~" She herself felt a chill, but she was still smiling.

She even scratched the back of the man's neck with her fingertips, looking rather aggrieved and dissatisfied, "Why aren't you looking at me?"

Upon hearing her words and feeling the movement of her fingertips, Wen Qiyan knew he couldn't afford to ignore it any longer.

"It's not the right time yet, what kind of New Year's greeting is my wife offering me with this soup?"

Although the man's words were rather "euphemistic," Ji Wanyuan could still understand what he meant.

He was cursing her, saying it was like a weasel paying respects to a chicken—it meant no good.

That bastard!

"What nonsense are you talking about? I'm just concerned about you."

"Just now, my wife was a fierce and ruthless woman who wanted to eat people. She threatened and scolded me and even wanted my father-in-law to cut off my wrists and burn them for firewood. Now she's coming to fawn over me. What are you up to?"

He gave a half-smile, "There was nothing in the porridge, was there?"

Ji Wanyuan's smiling lips twitched involuntarily, and she cursed Wen Qiyan several times in her heart.

She originally wanted to call him "husband," but she couldn't help feeling disgusted, so she changed her address, partly to vent her dissatisfaction and partly to pretend.

"What are you talking about? What kind of medicine could I possibly give you?"

"Some of the things I said were too harsh. If I said them directly, wouldn't my wife get angry again?"

“What do you want to say? Just say it!” Ji Wanyuan blurted out.

Only after she finished speaking did she realize her mistake, and she almost couldn't help but curse.

After much effort, I managed to hold back.

"Say it, what did you say?" Ji Wanyuan still had her arms around the man's neck.

In order to achieve her goal, she subconsciously resorted to acting cute.

It was truly an unconscious act of coquetry on her part; Wen Qiyan realized it before Ji Wanyuan even did.

He looked at her.

After watching for a while, Ji Wanyuan vaguely realized that Wen Qiyan was not indifferent. His eyes were very deep when he looked at her, which was often a sign that Wen Qiyan was about to be moved.

"Weren't you the one who drugged me the first two times?"

"What do you mean by drugging me?" She realized what was going on as soon as she asked the question.

"Twice? How can it be twice? It was clearly once."

“Once?” Wen Qiyan argued with her seriously. “That time with the Cao family girl doesn’t count? My lady really has a bad memory.”

Ji Wanyuan was thinking about the time Fang Chao drugged her on their wedding night, but little did she know that Wen Qiyan was referring to the time with Cao Xin.

That time, there was no way to deny it.

Even when she was trying to soften her stance, she couldn't help but argue with him, "Well... this time, didn't you enjoy it quite a bit?"

"What have I benefited from?" His gaze remained fixed on her face.

Despite his indifference and apparent apathy, he remained unblinking.

"You...you're not satisfied?" Ji Wanyuan had to defend herself. "You've been dawdling for so long and still won't come out..."

She didn't want to say it, after all, it's such an embarrassing thing.

But now he couldn't hold back any longer, "You've put so much in there, and you still want to keep going."

"You dare say you weren't still not satisfied?!" she raised her voice, accusing him of his enjoyment.

After quickly finishing her sentence, Ji Wanyuan felt angry, both ashamed and annoyed, yet determined to prove herself.

“So…” the man said slowly.

"Miss Ji brought Xuexia Soup here to force me to admit that I'm still not satisfied?"

That's not the point; we always have to go around in circles.

"When you have sex with me, aren't you satisfied and comfortable?" she asked him, changing the subject.

The man remained cold, saying, "Just say what you want to say directly, why beat around the bush?"

Ji Wanyuan never expected that even though she had sat on his lap and brought up all sorts of random things, he would remain so indifferent.

He seemed very impatient with her words, as if he wanted to get rid of her.

Ji Wanyuan was truly at her wit's end.

She felt embarrassed, and wanted to jump up and yell at people.

Wen Qiyan shifted his gaze from her face to his literary treatise, continuing to write with his ink.

She seemed unmoved by his presence, only refraining from abandoning him because of her pregnancy and her status.

Ji Wanyuan really didn't know where things had gone wrong.

Could it be that he no longer has feelings for her? Or is it all just wishful thinking on her part?

Thinking of this, she couldn't help but look down at herself, clinging to the man's neck, straightening up with her legs wide open, wanting to look into the distance and see her current appearance through the bronze mirror.

Is it really that bad, unable to attract people's attention?

However, because of her heavy body, she couldn't climb and move smoothly, and unintentionally ruffled the man's clothes.

Ji Wanyuan didn't notice at first, but Wen Qiyan scolded her, "What are you doing, fidgeting?"

Ji Wanyuan then lowered her eyes and noticed some hidden trickery.

She was taken aback, then couldn't help but sneer inwardly.

Some scoundrels put on such a nice facade that she actually believed they were indifferent.

It's not time to reward him yet.

Seeing that he was interested, Ji Wanyuan felt more at ease.

She planned to keep nagging at him, tormenting him! She wanted to see just how far Wen Qiyan would go because of her.

So Ji Wanyuan pretended to know nothing and wrapped her arms around his neck, rubbing against his thigh, and snuggling closer to him.

She called his name in a coquettish and innocent voice, "Wen Qiyan, hold me tighter, don't let me fall. Although I'm over four months pregnant now, I still can't withstand any bumps. If I accidentally fall and get hurt, it will be your Wen family's flesh and blood that gets hurt."

She was very restless in his arms, her thoughts were written all over her face, but she was still pretending, acting very innocent and pure.

So silly yet so adorable.

"Wen Qiyan, didn't you hear me? I told you to put your arm around me a little more," Ji Wanyuan urged him.

The man remained unmoved.

She was very domineering, grabbing his hand and forcibly pulling him close.

Then she leaned in too, pressing her ear against the man's chest, looking utterly docile.

She didn't dare to move the hand that was gripping the pen, but she did pull the other hand towards him.

Wen Qiyan lowered his eyes to look at the whorl of her hair. Her thick, curly eyelashes trembled and shook. Her expression was somewhat unreadable, but even if he couldn't see it, Wen Qiyan could guess what was going on.

The man's hand rested loosely on her waist, neither embracing her excessively nor letting go.

He was really calm today.

Having come this far, Ji Wanyuan felt that she had gone through enough roundabout ways, so she began to speak, "I will keep my distance from my uncle in the future, so... could you please stop targeting our Ji family?"

She always had some purpose in doing things, and Wen Qiyan certainly didn't know that this wasn't her true intention.

Wen Qiyan must have thought she was asking him for help because of the Ji family, but he didn't know that she was trying to gather information.

“You are the son-in-law of the Ji family. How can a son-in-law treat his father-in-law like that? It’s not right to talk about that!” She said that it was not good and that they should be more amiable. She also said that she was pregnant and could not stand hearing such talk about whether or not the family would fall from power.

Looking at her clumsy acting full of flaws, Wen Qiyan asked, "When did I say I was going to deal with the Ji family?"

"If you don't want to deal with the Ji family, why did you say that if my father falls from power, how long can I remain so arrogant and fearless?"

"Isn't this going to get back at my father?" she asked, subtly probing his words.

She tilted her head back, carefully observing the man's expression, trying to find any clues.

"Is this how they're going to deal with the Ji family?"

He's still beating around the bush with her.

Ji Wanyuan was a little annoyed. "If it's not about dealing with the Ji family, then why... what do you mean by being curious?"

"What exactly are you curious about?"

"When I say I'm curious, I mean nothing more than curiosity."

"Is that so?" Ji Wanyuan mimicked the man's forced smile.

She straightened up and stretched out her delicate fingers to poke the man's chest, tapping lightly.

"I don't believe you, you're lying to me."

The man paused, watching her movements. "Miss Ji, do you think I would lie to you and try to deceive me?"

Ji Wanyuan's heart skipped a beat. "What did you say? I don't understand. What do you mean by lying?"

"Whether you understand or not, it doesn't matter." Wen Qiyan said indifferently.

He looked down at her upturned face and said, "My wife would be best to tell my father-in-law to be more discreet in his actions."

Having said all that, she had a gut feeling that Wen Qiyan must know something. Could it be that the imperial court was about to take some action?

How can I get him to say a few more words?

Looking at the man's icy face, Ji Wanyuan steeled her heart and leaned in to kiss him.
