Chapter 9: Hesitant

Lin Mo's face turned pale with fear. He ran over with a few quick steps, threw the rabbit away, and pulled Lin Wen over with one hand, holding him in his arms and comforting him, "Awen, what's wrong with you?"

"Amo... wuwuwu, Amo, it hurts so much, Awen hurts so much..." As soon as Lin Wen saw Lin Mo, he immediately hugged him tightly and cried even louder, almost unable to breathe.

Lin Mo comforted him while stroking his back, "Awen, don't cry. I got a lot of pheasant eggs for you and caught two little rabbits for you. We'll cook them for you later. Don't cry."

When he heard there was something delicious, Lin Wencai slowly stopped crying, trying hard to hold back his sobs. He hiccuped and carefully took the two rabbits that Lin Mo gave him, "Mo, I will be very good. Don't cry. Give me something delicious to eat..."

Lin Mo rubbed his head. In his eyes, Lin Wen was just a child. Holding Lin Wen's hand, he led him into the house: "Awen, show me where it hurts."

After putting the eggs away, Lin Mo didn't care about anything and reached out to take off Lin Wen's worn clothes. Lin Wen blushed and tears welled up in his eyes, still hesitating and shy.

"Amo, don't take it off. It's shameful. Awen has grown up and can take it off by himself."

Lin Mo flicked his frizzy little head, "Why are you shy? I've seen everything you have that I don't. Be obedient and don't move, or I'll hurt you later."

Having said that, regardless of Lin Wen's shy look, he wiped the tears from his face and quickly took off his clothes.

Looking at the bones of the chrome hand, his heart sank. He saw several glaring bloodstains crawling hideously on the thin back, some new and some old, some with flesh torn and still bleeding.

With a dark face, he carefully sprinkled some of the remaining medicine on Lin Wen's wound, then tore off a clean shirt and bandaged him carefully.

During this process, Lin Wen just gritted his teeth and didn't say a word. When Lin Mo finished, he found that there were tears in his big, round eyes. He looked familiar, and it was probably not the first time he applied medicine like this.

"Awen! Have you been to the old house again?" Lin Sheng hurriedly ran in from the door, his eyes red and his whole body trembling. He heard others on the road say that his Lin Wen went to the old house, and was almost suffocated by the youngest son of the Lin family. He was still digging wild vegetables outside, and he ran back in fright.

"Brother..." Lin Wen's eyes were red, and he hid behind Lin Mo tremblingly, tears falling again.

Lin Mo patted his shoulder and comforted Lin Wen for a while, and then he understood the whole story.

It turned out that Lin Wen had to go back to the old house every once in a while. In the years since they moved out, Lin Wen had been back five times, and each time he came back covered in bruises.

The old house is now occupied by Uncle Lin and his family. He has two younger sons, Lin Wen and Lin Wu, who are all the same age. Uncle Lin has always liked bullying Lin Wen since they were young, and they would beat and scold him every time they see him.

They are now in the mountain behind the village, and the old house is at the entrance of the village, which is quite far away. As for why Lin Wen wants to go to the old house, it is unknown. According to Lin Wen, even he himself doesn't know, but he wants to go there every once in a while.

Lin Mo analyzed that it was probably because of a brain problem. He knew from the original owner's memory that Lin Wen was not born a fool. He hit his head when he was a child. His family was so poor that they could not afford to hire a doctor. Later, he developed a high fever and became a fool. It might be a memory problem, so Lin Wen wanted to go to the old house from time to time.

Every time he went there, the two brothers of the Lin family would accuse him of stealing something and beat him until he was covered in wounds. This was also Lin Wen's own fault, and they had no way to ask for an explanation. They could only restrain Lin Wen and tell him to go out less, let alone go to the old house.

"Awen...why can't you learn your lesson?" Lin Sheng looked at the injuries all over his body, tears streaming down her face. She hugged Lin Wen with heartache and anger.

"I'll keep an eye on him from now on. I'm going to teach those two cruel little bastards a lesson sooner or later!" Lin Mo's eyes were filled with cruelty. Looking at the pitiful appearance of this silly kid who kept coaxing Lin Sheng, he felt angry and distressed.

"Amo is not fierce anymore, big brother is not crying anymore, Awen is good, don't go to grandma anymore, Awen is afraid..."

Lin Wen spoke timidly, his hoarse baby voice was heartbreaking. He was at a loss for words as to how to apologize to Lin Sheng, while saying pitifully that he was scared.

Lin Mo rubbed his head and smiled at him soothingly: "Brother, take him to wash first, I'll go make dinner, Wu will be back soon, don't cry, otherwise Wu will see you and worry."

Lin Sheng nodded and pulled Lin Wen to wash and change clothes. Lin Wu also came back at this time. The brothers hugged each other with red eyes and cried for a while.

Lin Mo shook his head helplessly, took the wild rabbit to the kitchen, and cleaned it quickly. There were not many seasonings at home, just a small can of salt and half a bowl of soy sauce, and only a small can of oil. He had to stew the rabbit in water and throw in some ginger slices before he could tinker with the eggs. He made egg soup and scrambled eggs with wild vegetables.

"Amo, how did you make so many eggs? These eggs can be exchanged for a lot of money in town. It would be a shame to just eat them like this?" Lin Sheng had a painful look on his face. He had never eaten such a rich meal in his life.

"Brother, I won't sell those eggs. I'll keep them for your health. Awen and Awu, eat more." Lin Mo poured a big bowl of rabbit meat for each of them. This family had rarely eaten meat since they were young. Although the meat was cooked rather roughly, the whole family was very satisfied with the meal. It was a rare full meal, and everyone had a full belly.

"Brother, I plan to go out to do business and find a way to save some money." Lin Mo said as he cleaned up the dishes. In fact, he didn't want to go out to do business. The transportation in ancient times was very inconvenient. He didn't know how long it would take to come back after this trip.

"Trading? Ah Mo, that won't do. You're weak, how can you go out and sleep in the open? You know how hard it is to be a trader. If something goes wrong, how am I going to explain it to my parents?"

Lin Sheng immediately refused when he heard this. No matter how poor the villagers were, few of them would go out to do business. At most, they would carry a load on their shoulders and work as peddlers in several villages.

In their understanding, traveling for business means going far away to find work, usually helping others deliver goods, which is a long and tiring journey.

In the past, people died easily during wars. Although it is peaceful now, it is still dangerous. There is no guarantee that the mountain is in turmoil due to bandits, who are all evil people who kill people without blinking an eye. In addition, due to Lin Mo's physical condition, Lin Sheng is even more reluctant to let him go out.

"Brother, I've decided. I'll be back in a month at the least, two months at the most. Believe me, by then, I'll definitely make sure our family lives a good life. I've already figured out a way to make money, and I'll take good care of you in the future. Just trust me this time!"
