Lin Jingshu put down her things, carried Sanmao out, and ran into Director Gong and Aunt Kang.
"Why is it so hot!"
Director Gong arrived on a bicycle. She patted the back seat and said, "Jingshu, get on. Let's go to the hospital first. Mrs. Kang, we'll go first."
"Okay, go ahead."
Aunt Kang walked over with Da Mao and Er Mao, who were crying.
Director Gong pedaled very fast all the way, not daring to delay for a moment.
"Doctor, doctor."
As soon as the car stopped, Lin Jingshu rushed into the hospital holding the child, and the nurse quickly pushed the cart over.
The child was pushed directly into the emergency room, and Lin Jingshu let go of her arms trembling.
The two stood at the door of the emergency room waiting.
After a while, Aunt Kang came with the two sisters.
"How's it going?"
Lin Jingshu: "The doctor has gone, but I don't know the specific situation yet."
Aunt Kang slapped her thigh in anxiety. "What's wrong with Zhou Jianguo and Zhang Sufen? They left their three children at home and didn't care. Sanmao was burned like this, and they were nowhere to be seen."
Lin Jingshu gently stroked Zhou Damao's back and asked softly, "Do you know where your parents are?"
Zhou Damao shook his head and said with a choked voice, "I don't know. They never came back after they left."
Zhou Jianguo is on leave today, so he definitely won’t be found in the army.
Zhang Sufen also has no job and doesn't have many close relatives in the family compound.
Even if they are close relatives, they would not leave three children at home and ignore them.
The three adults looked at each other and shook their heads, saying that these parents were so incompetent.
The door of the emergency room opened and the nurse came out with a list.
"Are you the child's family?"
Everyone shook their heads.
"Where is the child's family? The condition is critical and surgery is required immediately."
"Why is it so serious?"
Lin Jingshu was horrified.
"The child has a high fever and it will be even more dangerous if you bring him here any later. Go pay the medical bills first and don't delay the rescue."
Director Gong took the medical prescription and said, "I'll go."
Lin Jingshu searched her pockets and found only two dollars. She didn't expect this accident to happen and didn't bring her wallet with her when she went out.
Aunt Kang did bring some with her, and she went with Director Gong.
Lin Jingshu sat outside with her two children waiting.
Ermao's stomach growled and she curled up to try to stop the sound.
"Auntie is going to the bathroom. Can you wait here?"
Da Mao and Er Mao nodded obediently.
After Lin Jingshu left, she found Aunt Kang who was queuing to pay.
"The two children haven't eaten yet. I'll go buy them some buns."
Aunt Kang took out some money and gave it to her, but Lin Jingshu pushed it back.
"I have some here. I still have enough money to buy buns."
Lin Jingshu found the cafeteria, bought four big meat buns, borrowed a cup from the nurse, and took a cup of hot water back.
"Da Mao, Er Mao, let's eat first."
With the hot and soft meat bun stuffed into his hands, Zhou Damao pursed his lips and started crying again.
"Thank you, Auntie."
My aunt said that at school we call her teacher, and in the staff quarters we call her aunt.
Ermao had an embarrassed smile on her face. Her aunt must have heard the rumbling of her stomach.
Lin Jingshu comforted them, "Sanmao will be fine. You should eat well so that you can have the energy to accompany her, right?"
Da Mao and Er Mao nodded, each holding a bun and eating it in big mouthfuls.
After an anxious wait, the doctor finally came out.
He took off his mask, looked at the anxious crowd, and said, "The child is out of danger, but there is still inflammation in the body, and he needs to be hospitalized for a few days of observation."
"Very good."
Ermao happily hugged her sister, and the two sisters snuggled up to each other.
"Doctor, how is my daughter?"
A voice came from far away, and Zhang Sufen hurried over and grabbed the doctor's arm tightly.
"Are you the child's mother?"
Zhang Sufen nodded repeatedly.
Zhou Jianguo came over a few steps behind and saw Lin Jingshu and the others here. He smiled at them gratefully.
"That's outrageous."
The doctor's words frightened Zhang Sufen so much that she stood there in a daze, not knowing how to react.
"How can you be a parent like that? You didn't send your child here until his fever reached 40 degrees Celsius. If you had waited any longer, no one could have saved him."
In all these years of practicing medicine, I have seen more people than ghosts.
There was nothing that could be done because of the difficult family conditions, but Zhou Jianguo was wearing a military uniform, so no matter how poor he was, he would not abandon his child at home.
"The baby will be out soon. He needs to stay in the hospital for a few days for observation before returning."
Zhou Jianguo frowned, "Is it that serious?"
"What do you think?"
The doctor's voice suddenly rose, and he said angrily, "As a soldier, you should have high ideological quality. You can't just abandon a girl just because she's a girl. Fortunately, the child is lucky, otherwise I wouldn't even be able to see her one last time."
Being criticized in front of so many people, Zhou Jianguo said with an embarrassed expression: "That's not what I meant."
Zhang Sufen pulled his arm and apologized to the doctor: "The child's father is too anxious. I don't mean any other harm. As long as the child can get better, it doesn't matter how long he stays."
Seeing that she had a good attitude, the doctor didn't say much.
After the doctor left, Sanmao was quickly pushed out, his face pale and with a needle stuck in his hand.
Lin Jingshu and others helped send him back to the ward.
Aunt Kang: "What's wrong with you two? You left the child at home and I can't find him."
Zhang Sufen and Zhou Jianguo looked at each other and lowered their heads.
Aunt Kang sighed and said, "Forget it. If you don't tell me, I won't ask. But this is the only time this will happen."
Zhang Sufen nodded quickly.
They came back, Sanmao was out of danger, and Lin Jingshu and others prepared to go back.
Ermao still remembered the medical expenses and food money paid by Grandma Kang and the aunts, so he hurried to call them.
"Mom and Dad, Grandma Kang and Aunt Gong paid for Sanmao's medical expenses, and Aunt Lin bought meals for me and my eldest sister."
Zhang Sufen really wanted to cover her mouth and pretend not to hear. She originally pretended that she knew nothing and got away with the money.
She just didn't believe that they had the nerve to come to Sanmao and ask for money while he was sick.
Sanmao is fine, and the family can save medical expenses, how great.
It is said that people are so shameless that Zhang Sufen just shrank into silence like a quail.
Ermao looked at her father with accusing eyes, her cheeks puffed up with anger.
Zhou Jianguo still has to stay in the army, so he naturally cannot play dumb.
"How much?"
The amount of money was not much, and Aunt Kang and Director Gong did not think about asking for money when they paid it. Zhang Sufen's attitude made them realize that they were being taken advantage of.
How can this be possible?
This is not the way to bully people.
When the medical expenses were reported, Zhou Jianguo obediently paid for them.
"And Aunt Lin's meal money."
Zhou Jianguo looked at the two cents in his pocket and said awkwardly, "There's not enough money. I'll send it back to you later."
Before Lin Jingshu could answer, Ermao said, "It's okay, Dad. I know where the change is at home. Auntie and I will go back together."
Zhou Jianguo curled his lips and said, "Okay."
