Chapter 16 is a tragedy.

Gu Xichen sat at the dining table, looking at the food on the table, and then at his wife.

He leaned closer to Jiang Jinxiu, his voice lowered with a hint of coquetry: "Wife, my hands are tired, can you feed me?"

The big wolfhound suddenly turned into a little puppy, and Jiang Jinxiu's heart melted completely.

She picked up her chopsticks, took a piece of braised fish, carefully removed the bones, and put it into Gu Xichen's mouth.

Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, it's absolutely delicious.

The food was already delicious, but now that his wife was feeding him, he was even more eager to swallow his tongue along with it.

He smacked his lips: "Honey, it's so delicious."

Jiang Jinxiu blushed and stuffed another piece of fish belly into his mouth: "Eat more if you like it. We'll cook the other one tonight."

Gu Xichen said with satisfaction, "Wife, you're so good."

Gu Xichen started urging Jiang Jinxiu to eat with him after he was half full.

They ate like that, each taking turns eating with a pair of chopsticks.

It was as if pink bubbles were rising in the air, so sweet.

Before they knew it, the two had finished all the food, leaving nothing behind.

Jiang Jinxiu stood up: "You rest for a while, I'll go wash the dishes first."

Gu Xichen took Jiang Jinxiu's hand and pressed her back down on the stool: "Wife, sit down. You're the one who needs to rest, I'll wash the dishes."

He doesn't subscribe to the theory that cooking and washing dishes should be women's work.

If he could, he would like to take care of everything so that his wife could get some rest.

As he cleared the table of dishes, he said, "Honey, will you teach me how to cook from now on? You cook better. Once you teach me, I'll cook for you too."

Jiang Jinxiu felt a warm glow in her heart upon hearing this.

Men are all somewhat chauvinistic, but in front of her, he seemed to have thrown all that so-called chauvinism to the winds.

...

When Gu Xichen returned after washing the dishes, he saw Jiang Jinxiu pacing back and forth in the room, stretching her arms and legs.

He asked with some curiosity, "Honey, what's wrong?"

When Jiang Jinxiu saw him return, she said, "It's nothing, I just took a walk to digest my food."

Gu Xichen had originally wanted to pull her down to rest, but he changed his mind after hearing her words.

He suggested, "How about we go for a walk?"

Jiang Jinxiu thought it was a good idea and nodded in agreement.

The two quickly left the house.

The earth, washed clean by the heavy rain, still carried the fragrance of soil in the air, making it exceptionally pleasant.

In this era of scarcity, the land was not eroded by various pesticides, and the air was not polluted by various factories.

Jiang Jinxiu felt as if every pore on her body had opened up.

He was eagerly absorbing the essence of this era.

Jiang Jinxiu didn't recognize many of the trees along the roadside or the crops in the fields. Along the way, she would ask Gu Xichen curiously from time to time: What is this tree? What is this called?

Gu Xichen would patiently explain everything to her.

The man was tall and imposing, while the woman was graceful and elegant.

They look like a perfect match.

The two of them unknowingly became a beautiful sight on the country road.

What they didn't know was that Gu Xilan was on her way home.

"Third brother, third brother, are you back yet?"

Gu Xilan was called back by Yang Dongmei to find out about her cousin Gu Xiliang's situation. She even took half an hour off for this.

She pounded on the door of Gu Xichen's room, but received no response.

Instead, they called out their sister-in-law, who was resting at home.

"Are you trying to call back the soul? The person is back, but if they didn't answer you, they're probably not in the room. I just heard the door close; go look for them outside," said Yang Zhaodi, the eldest sister-in-law, impatiently.

Gu Xilan knew she had upset her sister-in-law, but she also had to complete the task her mother had assigned her.

"Sister-in-law, do you know where Third Brother went?"

"Who understands him? He has his own legs."

Yang Zhaodi rolled her eyes.

Gu Xilan knew she wouldn't get any information from her sister-in-law, so she ignored her.

She turned and looked around at the gate, and saw two familiar figures not far away. Weren't they her third brother and sister-in-law?

She ran over quickly: "Third brother and sister-in-law, what are you doing here? Third brother, Mother asked me to come back and ask you, how is cousin Liang?"

Gu Xiliang is the only son of their uncle's family. He is a good person and often visits their home. Yang Dongmei, their aunt, also likes him quite a bit.

"It's okay, I can be back tomorrow."

Gu Xichen frowned when he saw his younger sister covered in sweat.

"It's good that you're alright. I'll go back and tell my mother."

"Slow down, wipe your sweat, and remember to drink more water."

Seeing Gu Xilan's expression, Jiang Jinxiu gave her some instructions.

"Understood, Third Brother and Third Sister-in-law, I'm off." Gu Xilan got the answer and happily ran back to report.

Both of them shook their heads as they watched Gu Xilan's retreating figure.

This girl is still as energetic as ever.

Jiang Jinxiu looked up at the sky and said, "Xichen, let's go back."

"Okay," Gu Xichen replied, looking at her.

Then I wanted to take her hand and walk back.

Jiang Jinxiu suddenly felt playful, a sly glint in her eyes: "Xichen, let's have a contest to see who gets home first. The loser has to grant the winner a request."

Gu Xichen looked at Jiang Jinxiu in disbelief: "Wife, are you sure?"

This was a windfall, and he was secretly thrilled.

Jiang Jinxiu nodded heavily.
