Chapter 20 Atonement Through Merit

Jiang Jinxiu felt much better after getting some money back.

She smiled at Song Wan'er, then looked at Zhang Xiaolan beside her: "Sister Xiaolan, I'm going in to get the things I didn't take before. Would you come in with me to tidy up?"

When Jiang Jinxiu married Gu Xichen, she didn't bring many things with her, as she was determined to return to the educated youth settlement.

Zhang Xiaolan looked at Jiang Jinxiu with relief; this girl was finally not stupid anymore.

She hummed in agreement and stepped inside first.

The other female educated youths followed them inside.

The room was a dormitory, where several female educated youths lived together.

Jiang Jinxiu walked to the door, turned back to look at Song Wan'er who was still pretending to cry, and said leisurely, "Aren't you going to come in and get the money for me? Do you expect me to search through it myself?"

Normally, people don't carry money with them when they have nothing to do.

Song Wan'er didn't want to repay the money and looked to everyone for help, but no one paid any attention to her.

With no other option, she reluctantly entered the room under everyone's watchful eyes.

After Jiang Jinxiu finished tidying up her things, Song Wan'er took out eighty yuan and gave it to her.

She stared intently at Song Wan'er and said coldly, "We're still short seventy yuan."

"Jinxiu, could you..." Jiang Jinxiu interrupted her before she could finish speaking.

"No! Go borrow money from Liu Jianjun now to pay me back, or come with me to the village chief to sign a document and use your work points to pay me back."

Jiang Jinxiu knew what kind of person Song Wan'er was. If the problem wasn't resolved now, Song Wan'er would definitely keep delaying and never pay back the money.

At that time, everyone will only think that she is heartless.

Song Wan'er felt a chill run down her spine from all the stares, but in the end, she borrowed money from Liu Jianjun to repay Jiang Jinxiu.

After Jiang Jinxiu's outburst, everyone at the educated youth settlement realized that they were actually quite wealthy, especially Liu Jianjun, who always complained about being poor. It's true what they say, you can't judge a book by its cover.

Jiang Jinxiu packed her belongings and found that many of them had been worn and used by Song Wan'er.

She didn't intend to ask for it again, nor did she intend to give it to Song Wan'er.

After giving some to Zhang Xiaolan, the rest were brought to the villagers.

"Dear uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters, please take a look and see if anyone in your family needs this. If so, please take it home."

As soon as she finished speaking, all her belongings were snatched away.

Everyone was happy to receive it, and she was happy to see it too.

...

When Jiang Jinxiu returned home, Gu Xichen was still asleep.

Jiang Jinxiu plans to use the remaining fish from today to make sweet and sour fish.

In summer, I don't have much of an appetite, but sweet and sour fish is just the right thing to whet my appetite.

However, she couldn't find the fish no matter what she tried.

"Meow meow meow..." Master, I smell the aroma of fish over there.

The orange raised its paw and pointed in a direction in a human-like manner.

Jiang Jinxiu looked in the direction it was pointing.

The main room.

Jiang Jinxiu knocked directly on Gu's eldest sister-in-law's door: "Sister-in-law, did you see the fish that Xichen brought back today in the kitchen?"

"I didn't see it."

"The fish is delicious."

Two different voices rang out at the same time, followed by the sound of a child being beaten and scolded.

Jiang Jinxiu understood.

This is a case of someone stealing food but not daring to admit it; the child is honest, and was even beaten and scolded.

"Sister-in-law, it's not that I don't want you to eat the fish, it's just that it's not yours. You can ask the owner before you take it, since we've separated now. Let it go this time, and hopefully there won't be a next time."

After Jiang Jinxiu finished speaking, the sounds of beating and cursing in the room stopped.

Jiang Jinxiu was furious, but since they had already eaten, she couldn't expect them to spit it out.

The desire to move out is growing stronger.

It's really not good to live under the same roof after the family has separated.

Especially since they also have to use the same kitchen.

We won't be able to have fish tonight.

She cleaned the rabbit that Orange brought back today, planning to make spicy rabbit meat.

She blanched the rabbit, then heated oil in a wok, and once the oil was hot, she added the rabbit meat and stir-fried it.

Once it's almost cooked, add the other ingredients one by one.

A rich fragrance filled the air.

Sun Xiaomeng, along with her son Fangfang, was watching from the kitchen doorway, and she was now swallowing hard.

Jiang Jinxiu filled a small bowl and handed it to her: "Take this for the child."

Sun Xiao wanted to refuse, but she really couldn't resist the temptation of the meat; it smelled so good.

She took the bowl: "Thank you, Third Sister-in-law."

Jiang Jinxiu said nonchalantly, "You're welcome."

Compared to her eldest sister-in-law, this second sister-in-law is already much better.

Although she is a foodie, she would never take things without asking like her sister-in-law.

Just as Jiang Jinxiu finished setting the table, Yang Dongmei and Gu Xilan returned from work.

After waking Gu Xichen, the group prepared to eat.

Gu Xichen looked at his wife with some confusion when he saw that they were having rabbit meat instead of fish for dinner.

Where did the rabbit come from? Wasn't the plan to cook fish?

Jiang Jinxiu knew what he wanted to ask: "The fish was given to my sister-in-law, but it caught the rabbit."

She pointed to the oranges at her feet and said.

As she moved, everyone realized that there was a kitten at her feet.

As if responding to Jiang Jinxiu's words, Orange looked smug and meowed a few times, as if to say, "Look how awesome I am."

Yang Dongmei asked incredulously, "Really? It's so small."

"Meow meow meow..."

I caught it, I caught it.

I'm really good at this.

Jiang Jinxiu patted its head: "It's true, it's really amazing. It even caught a snake today."

"They say cats are intelligent and perceptive, and this little one is so clever, even knowing to bring it home. Not bad at all," Yang Dongmei praised.

Orange became even more smug after hearing this.

Unfortunately, after only a few seconds, it trembled and hid behind Jiang Jinxiu, meowing.

Gu Xichen, who was standing to the side, thought of what his wife had said earlier when he heard about the snake, and looked at it coldly.

Orange felt as if the temperature around her had dropped several degrees.

The man's eyes are terrifying.

Hearing its frightened sound, Jiang Jinxiu remembered that she had complained to Xichen earlier that day.

She quickly smoothed things over: "Xichen, it has already caught a rabbit to atone for its sins, so let's not hold it against it."

Gu Xichen then looked away.

Gu Xichen withdrew his gaze, while Gu Xilan stared at Chengzi with shining eyes.

She loves kittens the most. She often encounters stray cats in the village, but they all run away as soon as she gets close.

There's one right in front of her now, and she really wants to hug it, touch it, and kiss it.

"Sister-in-law, may I hold it?"

Yang Dongmei knew that her daughter liked cats.

When I visited relatives before, they had a cat, and her daughter almost stole it back.

"What are you hugging me for? Let's eat first," Yang Dongmei said, deliberately making a face at him.

Jiang Jinxiu almost laughed when she saw Gu Xilan's expression.

Her expression was just like those cat lovers I'd seen in my past life—they couldn't move when they saw a cat and all they wanted to do was cuddle it.

"Little sister, eat first. You'll have plenty of time to play with it after you finish eating."

Gu Xilan pouted, looking a little aggrieved, like a deflated balloon.

But seeing the rabbit meat on the table, he perked up again.
