Extra Chapter 10: Vanished from the World

"What did you say?"

Jiang Jinxiu and the others were shocked.

Is Wang Shi'an...a traitor?

This answer shocked and humiliated Jiang Junrong even more than the fact that he had killed his own father.

Although he had just been recognized by the Zhao family, according to his understanding, the Zhao family had been loyal and virtuous for generations, a family of scholars, and had contributed money and effort during the War of Resistance Against Japan. He never expected that they would raise a traitor who colluded with the enemy and sold out the country!

This is an absolute disgrace!

"You're talking nonsense!" Jiang Junrong retorted instinctively. He didn't want to believe it, nor did he dare to believe it.

"nonsense?"

Feng Jingui looked at him with a mocking gaze: "Do you think those little bastards were able to sneak into Zhao Family Village so accurately and head straight for the backyard? Do you think they could find the mechanism just by looking at the cellar map drawn by Wang Shi'an? If it weren't for his inside help in opening the back door of the village, would Zhao Family Village have been so easily breached?"

"That hypocrite Wang Shi'an has long been bought off by Xiao Baga. He covets the Zhao family's treasures, while Xiao Baga covets the Zhao family's cultural relics. They hit it off immediately and became accomplices!"

“Zhao Mingcheng wasn’t stupid; he had already sensed that something was wrong with Wang Shi’an. He had seen Wang Shi’an acting suspiciously on several occasions. He originally wanted to investigate secretly, but before he could find out anything, Wang Shi’an struck first.”

“He was afraid that things would be exposed, so he encouraged me, saying that Zhao Mingcheng looked down on me and stole my sweetheart. He said that as long as we joined forces to bring down the Zhao family, all of the Zhao family’s treasures would be ours. I was blinded by jealousy and hatred at the time, so I agreed to him.”

As Feng Jingui spoke, a hint of regret appeared on his face, but more than that, there was resentment.

“We agreed that I would set the fire and create chaos. He would then use the chaos to lure Zhao Mingcheng to the woodshed, and together we would force him to hand over the cellar key and the schematics. But I never expected that Wang Shi’an had no intention of letting me live!”

“He got to the woodshed before me and strangled Zhao Mingcheng before I arrived! By the time I rushed in, he had already taken the key from Zhao Mingcheng and was holding the letter Zhao Mingcheng left for your mother, and he sneered at me.”

“He said, ‘Jin Gui, you did a good job. The young master was trapped in the fire to save you. You must serve him well on your journey to the underworld.’ Then, he lit the oil that had been prepared beforehand, leaving my body and Zhao Mingcheng’s body in the fire!”

"I was lucky to survive; a falling roof beam knocked me unconscious and pinned me to a corner, which saved me from being burned to death. But my hand... my hand is ruined!"

He raised his crippled hand, which had only four fingers, his eyes filled with boundless hatred: "By the time I crawled out of the ruins, Wang Shi'an had already run away with the most valuable things and Little Baga! All he left me with was a charred corpse and the empty title of 'loyal servant'!"

“For decades, I’ve lived like a rat in the street, constantly on the run, not even daring to use my real name. Meanwhile, he’s been taking the Zhao family’s money and acting like a big shot! Tell me, how can I not hate him! I dream of finding him and tearing him to pieces!”

The cabin was deathly silent.

Jiang Jinxiu frowned. If she remembered correctly, her grandmother said that two charred corpses had been found back then.

Since Feng Jingui is still alive, who was the other person who was burned to death?

She voiced the question that had been lingering in her mind.

However, Feng Jingui did not give him an answer, because he did not know either.

Jiang Junrong released his grip on Feng Jingui's collar, feeling as if all his strength had been drained away. He staggered back two steps and leaned against the wall to avoid falling.

The truth... this is the truth...

Such a cruel, such a sordid truth.

His father did not die in an accident, nor in a fire, but in a meticulously planned conspiracy, betrayed by the two people he trusted most.

One was consumed by jealousy and hatred, the other betrayed his country for personal gain.

How absurd, how tragic!

Jiang Jinxiu went over and supported her father's trembling body.

She could sense the pain and despair her father was experiencing.

She turned her head and looked coldly at Feng Jingui on the ground: "Wang Shi'an, where did he go?"

Feng Jingui, panting heavily, shook his head: "I don't know. He's vanished into thin air. I've been looking for him for decades without a trace. I guess he either went to Baga Island with Xiao Baga, or he changed his identity and is hiding somewhere in the country."

"Then why did you suddenly order someone to rob our ancestral home again this time?" Gu Xichen asked.

"Because I have no money."

Feng Jingui made no attempt to hide his greed: "I'm old, sick, and have no money for treatment. I'm about to die. I remembered that Wang Shi'an only took a portion of the gold and silver valuables with him back then, so there must still be a lot left in the cellar. I thought I'd go and make another killing."

"I didn't dare go by myself, so I found those few good-for-nothing thugs. I gave them a map and told them about the traps. My plan was to take what they needed and run away after they succeeded. I never expected... I never imagined that you would actually find your way here! Weren't the Zhao family all dead long ago?"

He looked at Jiang Junrong and Jiang Jinxiu in disbelief.

"People from the Zhao family are very resilient."

Jiang Jinxiu said coldly, "If a heartless bastard like you is still alive, how could we die?"

She looked at Feng Jingui without feeling any sympathy.

There's always a reason why someone is pitiful.

If it weren't for his jealousy and greed back then, how could he have given Wang Shi'an such an opportunity?

He himself was an accomplice in this tragedy.

“Wang Shi’an…what does he look like? What are his features?” Jiang Jinxiu continued to ask.
