Side Story 9: Little Baka's Dog

"Where?" Gu Xichen and Jiang Junrong asked at the same time.

"In the east of the city, in a very dilapidated tenement courtyard."

As Jiang Jinxiu spoke, she sketched out the exact location of the place in her mind: "The atmosphere there is very chaotic, and it is inhabited by all sorts of people from different religions and schools of thought. It is a good place to hide."

The most dangerous place is the safest place.

No one would have guessed that Feng Jingui would be hiding in such a chaotic place.

“Okay, let’s go there now.” Gu Xichen made a quick decision.

"What about these two?" Jiang Junrong pointed to the skinny monkey on the ground and the thug.

"Tie him up first and leave him here. We'll deal with him together when we catch Feng Jingui."

Gu Xichen tore the bed sheet off the ground and quickly tied the two of them up tightly, gagging them as well.

After doing all this, the three of them left the Peace Hotel without lingering for a moment.

The night grew deeper.

Following Jiang Jinxiu's directions, they drove eastward into the city.

The atmosphere inside the car was oppressive. Jiang Junrong remained silent, staring intently ahead, his hands gripping the steering wheel, veins bulging.

Gu Xichen was examining the weapon in his hand. Although it was just a dagger, it was more threatening to him than a gun.

Jiang Jinxiu closed her eyes, her mental energy firmly locked onto that aura.

She could sense that the aura was very steady, indicating that the other party was in a relaxed state and had not noticed the approaching danger.

This relieved her slightly.

"It's the alley in front, the third courtyard after you go in."

Jiang Jinxiu opened her eyes and pointed to a dark alleyway ahead.

Gu Xichen parked the car in an inconspicuous corner outside the alley, and the three of them got out of the car.

The alley was narrow and long with no streetlights, the ground was uneven and it smelled damp and musty.

They moved quietly and stealthily toward their target.

Soon, they arrived at the entrance of the large courtyard.

The courtyard gate was only slightly ajar, and it was pitch black inside, but a few suppressed coughs could be heard, along with the soft strains of opera singing coming from a radio.

Jiang Jinxiu used her mental power to probe again.

There were seven or eight families living in the courtyard, and most of them were already asleep.

Only one small house on the east side still had a light on; the person they were looking for was very likely there.

There was only one man in the room, sitting at the table, drinking a little wine, eating a plate of peanuts, and listening to the radio, looking very relaxed and content.

The man was probably in his sixties, thin and frail, wearing a faded old T-shirt. Sure enough, there was a noticeable scar on his left eyebrow.

His right hand rested on the table, with only four fingers; the space where his little finger should have been was empty, leaving only an ugly scar.

Feng Jingui! That's him!

Jiang Jinxiu gestured to Gu Xichen and her father about the situation inside the room, and the two immediately understood.

Jiang Junrong's breathing suddenly became rapid. The thought that the person inside was one of the murderers who killed his father, and that the person was the culprit who caused him to be separated from his family and mother, filled him with overwhelming hatred.

He wished he could rush in right now and tear him to pieces.

Gu Xichen pressed down on his shoulder and shook his head at him, signaling him to calm down.

Then, he made a gesture, meaning that he would enter from the front, while Jiang Junrong and Jiang Jinxiu would flank from the back window, making sure to strike decisively and not give him any chance to resist or cry for help.

The two nodded.

Gu Xichen took a deep breath and, like a cat, silently crept to the door of the small house.

He didn't kick the door, but gently pushed it.

The door creaked open a crack.

Feng Jingui, who was inside the room, immediately became alert. He turned around abruptly and shouted sharply, "Who's there?"

His right hand, which was drinking, had already unconsciously reached under the table.

But Gu Xichen was faster than him!

The instant Feng Jingui turned his head, Gu Xichen rushed in and kicked the stool he was sitting on away.

Feng Jingui reacted quickly, rolling away to dodge the kick. At the same time, he pulled out a sharp butcher knife from under the table and stabbed it at Gu Xichen's chest.

That old guy is truly ruthless!

Gu Xichen snorted coldly, and instead of retreating, he advanced, kicking his wrist with precision.

Feng Jingui screamed in agony as the butcher knife flew out of his hand.

In the blink of an eye, the window at the back of the house was flung open with a crash, and Jiang Junrong and Jiang Jinxiu jumped in at the same time.

Jiang Junrong's eyes were bloodshot as he rushed forward and punched Feng Jingui repeatedly in the face.

Feng Jingui was stunned by the beating. He never imagined that he would be suddenly confronted when he had hidden himself so well.

He struggled desperately, but Jiang Junrong was like a madman at that moment, with astonishing strength.

Jiang Jinxiu was worried that her father would suffer a loss, and was about to go up to help, but Gu Xichen stopped her.

"Let Father do it himself," Gu Xichen said in a deep voice.

Jiang Jinxiu stopped in her tracks, her eyes reddening as she looked at the two wrestling.

Yes, my father needed an outlet for his years of grievances and resentment.

Feng Jingui was old and only had one hand to use, so he quickly fell into a disadvantageous position and was pinned down by Jiang Junrong. His face was already bruised and covered in blood.

“Tell me! Why did you do this? My father treated you like a brother, why did you harm him!” Jiang Junrong grabbed his collar and questioned him hoarsely.

Feng Jingui was beaten senseless and spat out a mouthful of blood mixed with two teeth.
