Chapter 5 Campus Goddess Bai Yueguang 5 Private Tutoring

After class the next morning, Wen Qianning walked slowly towards the cafeteria.

Unexpectedly, I met Yan Jiayue again on the way.

"Ningning!" Yan Jiayue had sharp eyes and saw her across most of the playground.

The boy's voice was cheerful, as if he had just finished exercising. He waved his hand to call her and trotted towards her. The strands of hair on his forehead were still stained with crystal beads of sweat. "Want to go eat? Let's go together."

Wen Qianning was about to find an excuse to refuse when she caught a glimpse of a familiar figure out of the corner of her eye. Ji Hanlin was standing under a camphor tree not far away, flipping through a book, his gaze vaguely glancing in their direction.

How could it be such a coincidence? Every time she talked to Yan Jiayue, Ji Hanlin would appear as if he had timed it perfectly.

When he looked at her like that, Wen Qianning inexplicably felt a guilty feeling as if she had been caught... No, she had clearly done nothing, so why should she act like she was being raped?

So, she swallowed the refusal that was on the tip of her tongue and agreed readily, "Okay."

"Let's go!" Yan Jiayue smiled happily and naturally nudged Wen Qianning's arm with her elbow.

The eldest daughter of the Wen family and the eldest son of the Yan family walked side by side. Both of them were recognized as handsome men and beautiful women. They came from similar families and grew up together. Their every move revealed a tacit understanding and intimacy that others could not interfere with.

Ji Hanlin, who was not far away, watched this scene, his already deep eyes darkening even further. He pursed his lips slightly, then walked towards the cafeteria.

Wen Qianning and Yan Jiayue each ordered a meal and found a seat by the window. Not long after, Ji Hanlin also took his tray and sat at the table next to them.

Wen Qianning secretly raised her eyes to glance at Ji Hanlin, only to see that he had an indifferent expression, as if he didn't know her at all and didn't want to pay any attention to them at all. He was concentrating on eating his meal.

Yan Jiayue was completely oblivious to the undercurrent between them. He looked at the few dishes on Wen Qianning's plate, tutted in dissatisfaction, picked up a few pieces of cut meat with his fork, and threw them into Wen Qianning's bowl without saying a word. "Ningning, you're eating too little, aren't you? You're so thin, how can you not eat more?"

"..." Wen Qianning didn't react for a moment, and couldn't stop him. She could only watch Yan Jiayue throw the thing into her bowl.

In fact, she and Yan Jiayue were pure childhood sweethearts. They grew up together and had a close relationship like siblings. Yan Jiayue was a very calm person and didn't think there was anything wrong with her behavior.

But... maybe because he had a guilty conscience, Wen Qianning clearly felt that the air around him seemed to have suddenly become cold.

It goes without saying that the chill was coming from Ji Hanlin.

"I'm talking to Yan Jiayue," she warned him in a low voice, "next time, don't..."

"What do you mean by 'no'?" Yan Jiayue slapped her hand away and threw some more into her bowl. "Why weren't you polite when you snatched my snacks when we were kids?"

He said it as a matter of course, completely unaware of Wen Qianning's increasingly stiff expression and the boy at the next table's gradually clenched fists.

"Thank you so much." Wen Qianning curled the corners of her mouth and complained in her heart. Judging from the level of support from Yan Jiayue, this stupid teammate, she felt that Ji Hanlin would break up with her before she could even get the necklace. She was afraid that in the next second,

"Wen Qianning."

The sudden sound made her hands tremble and the cutlery almost fell to the ground.

Ji Hanlin had stood by the table without him noticing. His sharp gaze swept across her plate before landing on her face. "After you finish eating, go to the third teaching room for math tutoring."

Yan Jiayue raised her head upon hearing this, frowned, and glanced at Ji Hanlin in confusion, "You two? You know each other? He wants to help you with your studies?"

Just as Ji Hanlin was about to speak, Wen Qianning's heart suddenly sank, fearing that Ji Hanlin would directly reveal their relationship in front of Yan Jiayue, so she quickly rushed to answer, "Ah, it's nothing. It's just that classmate Ji is a very good student, and I asked him to help me with math a while ago."

The boy was silent for a few seconds. The sunlight shone through the cafeteria window onto the side of his face, and his eyelashes cast a small shadow under his eyes.

He didn't look at Yan Jiayue anymore, only staring at Wen Qianning's slightly nervous expression. Suddenly, he smiled softly, but the smile didn't reach his eyes. "Yes, she begged me."

"Oh." Yan Jiayue didn't think much about it. This young master has always been simple-minded and was easily fooled by Wen Qianning.

"Remember to come to the study room in the third teaching building." Before leaving, he turned around and left these words.

When Wen Qianning finished her meal and came to the Sanjiao study room, she found that only Ji Hanlin was there.

"Come in." Ji Hanlin said in a cold tone, and closed the door after Wen Qianning came in.

Why do I feel a little scared for no reason?

"I applied to the school for exclusive use of this study room, so no one else will come in and disturb us." Ji Hanlin took the schoolbag from Wen Qianning's shoulder, and his fingertips accidentally brushed the skin on the back of her neck, causing her to tremble slightly.

He pulled out a chair and motioned for Wen Qianning to sit down, then took out a set of test papers and placed them in front of her.

"Ningning, you take this math test first. The time limit is ninety minutes."

Written in ninety minutes? Is he the devil?

Wen Qianning's eyes widened in disbelief, and she protested angrily, "Ninety minutes for a whole set, how can I possibly finish it? The exam is clearly one hundred and twenty minutes long."

Ji Hanlin curled his lips, his smile a little cold: "You're too slow. Finish what you can write in 90 minutes, while ensuring speed and quality. The remaining 30 minutes should be used to solve the final question."

"You're writing the test right after dinner, and your mind hasn't come to its senses yet." Wen Qianning pouted and buried her face in her arms, humming like a spoiled child.

Ji Hanlin glanced at her, his eyebrows drooping indifferently, and replied without any emotion: "Then don't eat so much next time."

Wen Qianning: “…”

She hadn't taken many bites, but it was Yan Jiayue who insisted on stuffing food into her bowl.

"Are you angry again?" She whispered tentatively, her tone soft, and even the end of her words had a hint of stickiness that was deliberately made light.

"Why should I be angry?" Ji Hanlin paused as he flipped through the documents. His tone was so calm that it was almost impossible to tell what emotion he was expressing. "You and your childhood sweetheart get along so well, why should I be angry?"

Are you sure you don't sound angry? Wen Qianning was speechless.

"Yan Jiayue and I are really just friends. Besides, to me, he has always been like a brother..."

She wanted to continue explaining something, but her elbow accidentally knocked over the pencil case on the table, and the pens inside fell to the ground with a clatter.

"Oh?" Ji Hanlin suddenly lowered his head, his voice close to her ear, low and slightly chilled, "Brother will pick up food for you, feed you with a fork, and put his arm around your shoulder in public?"

Wen Qianning blushed slightly. She hadn't expected that the male protagonist, who usually seemed indifferent to everything, would actually observe her so carefully, even remembering her interactions with others so clearly.

"You don't believe me?" The girl looked at him with clear eyes and muttered softly, "He's just too nervous. I didn't react at all."

Ji Hanlin didn't say anything, just stared at her. His eyes were as deep as a pool of still water, making it impossible to see his emotions.

After a while, he sighed, reached out to pick up the scattered pens for her, and put them back on the table. His tone was still light: "Stay away from him in the future."

"...Are you ordering me?"

"No," he looked at her and lowered his voice, "I'm asking you."

Wen Qianning was stunned for a moment, her heart skipping a beat. She hadn't expected him to use the word "request." It was as if he was... lowering his head to comfort her?

"Oh," she replied, her tone so soft it seemed like it was about to melt. "I know."

Hearing this, he raised the corners of his mouth slightly.

"I'm going to start writing the test paper, don't disturb me." She turned her head away, calmly concealing her inner panic.

*

For the next two weeks, the two of them studied very seriously.

Wen Qianning felt that being in a relationship with Ji Hanlin was not a relationship at all. It was like having a personal tutor for herself, and a particularly strict one at that.

Why should she, a time traveler, have to experience the pain of the college entrance examination again? She thought that falling in love in novels only required kissing and hugging.

At first, she was rather lazy about studying, hoping he would give her some slack. But Ji Hanlin wasn't the type to go easy on her when it came to studying. At his most critical moments, he wouldn't even look at her. He simply pointed out the mistakes on her paper coldly, his tone calm but unrelenting. "We've explained this question five times, and you got it wrong every time. Don't you think you're wasting our time?"

At that moment, Wen Qianning suspected that she was really in a fake relationship.

But it was also under this strict supervision that her grades improved by leaps and bounds. In this monthly exam, she went from being near the bottom of the class in the liberal arts department in the 300th place to directly into the top 100.

On the day when the Academic Affairs Office announced the results, Wen Qianning saw it clearly written on the bulletin board: 98th place, Wen Qianning.

She stood there for a long time without moving, and blinked hard to make sure it was not an illusion.

"Ji Hanlin, I made it into the top 100!" Wen Qianning rushed into the third teaching study room holding the report card, her eyes curved with a smile.

Ji Hanlin looked up and saw her. His eyes swept over her calmly, then fell on the report card in her hand. "Congratulations."

"That's all?" Wen Qianning was very dissatisfied and pouted, "Why don't you praise me?"

He said, "You've studied so hard for so long, I'm not surprised that you've made it into the top 100."

She hummed softly, and suddenly her eyes lit up as if she remembered something.

"Do you remember what you promised me?" Wen Qianning tilted her head and moved closer to him. "You're not going to go back on your word, are you?"

Once, she was so exhausted from studying math that she lay on the table without moving, until Ji Hanlin poked her head and she suddenly sat up.

The girl sat up, shook his sleeve aggrievedly, and asked, "If I can get into the top 100 in my grade one day, you will take me out on a date, okay?"

He hummed and said, "If you can really do it, I'll agree."

When the two of them made the agreement, Wen Qianning never thought that she would be able to get into the top 100 in this monthly exam.

"I remember."

Ji Hanlin stood up, picked up the water cup and took a sip, saying nonchalantly, "Let's go together after school this afternoon."

"Okay!" Wen Qianning blinked and smiled.
