Chapter 24: Domineering Secretary Bai Yueguang 3 Send her home
The next morning, Wen Qianning got up early as usual, changed into a neat professional suit, tied her hair into a low ponytail, and put on some light makeup in front of the mirror.
She rushed from her residence to Ji's headquarters in the city center, taking the subway all the way and entering the office fifteen minutes early.
The secretarial area was as quiet and orderly as usual. Wen Qianning walked to her workstation, put the coffee in her hand on the table, turned on the computer, clicked on the calendar and emails, and began to deal with today's tasks one by one.
The elevator opened with a ding, and Ji Hanlin walked out of the CEO's elevator and headed towards his office.
Somehow, his peripheral vision couldn't help but glance at the figure in the secretary area.
She was sitting upright with a focused expression, staring intently at the computer screen in front of her, with a stack of folders beside her.
The sunlight poured in through the blinds, casting a faint halo on the girl's hair, as if it was outlined with a layer of light, making people unable to look away.
His expression did not change, but he unconsciously slowed down his pace.
Wen Qianning seemed to have noticed something and raised her head. The two of them looked at each other from a distance that was neither too far nor too close.
She was stunned for a moment, then nodded slightly and greeted him: "Good morning, President Ji."
Ji Hanlin paused for a moment, then quickly returned to normal and said "hmm" lightly.
He walked into the office, and after he left, Wen Qianning lowered her head and continued to look through the documents.
Not long after, the internal phone rang. It was Director Liu, who was in charge of operations management. He asked her to come downstairs because there was a task to be assigned to her.
"This is a new project we've been approaching. It's currently in the early stages of preparation. Time is tight and the demand is urgent. The president just named you to work with the business team to advance the process."
Wen Qianning was stunned. This project was an important cooperation that the company had negotiated some time ago. It involved many departments and complicated links. Although he was not responsible for the direct operation, the secretary had to coordinate many matters in his work.
In other words, this is not just an ordinary secretarial job; it is basically equivalent to temporarily parachuting her into a project team to assist all parties in implementing the plan.
But Wen Qianning showed no hesitation, and just nodded gently: "I understand, I will follow up."
She went out with a thick stack of documents, returned to the secretary area, put the documents down, carefully read through them, and quickly made notes in her notebook.
Honestly, this arrangement was a bit unusual for a newly arrived secretary like her. Project coordination was usually handled by dedicated project assistants, who would at most provide administrative support. But she had a vague feeling that this was Ji Hanlin's chance for her to prove her abilities.
As she thought of this, she lowered her head slightly, and a barely perceptible curve appeared on her lips.
It's okay, she can do it.
In the past few days, Wen Qianning's working time was almost completely filled with things to do. The emails going back and forth and the coordination and confirmation of various links did not give her any chance to breathe.
By the time night fell, she was the only one left in the secretary area, still hunched over her desk organizing things.
Wen Qianning rubbed the corners of his eyes, which were a little sore, and was just about to stand up to pour a glass of water when he suddenly heard footsteps behind him.
"Haven't you gone back yet?"
The familiar bass sounded slowly, and Wen Qianning was startled. Turning around, she saw Ji Hanlin standing not far away. He had a slender figure, and his every move exuded the oppressive feeling of a superior.
She stood up immediately, a smile on her lips: "Boss Ji...why are you still here?"
He didn't say anything, but his eyes fell on a stack of documents on her desk that had been opened but not marked.
"Working on a new project?" he asked.
She nodded. "I received a notice a few days ago asking me to assist the Ministry of Commerce in following up on preliminary matters."
Ji Hanlin raised his eyebrows, obviously knowing the arrangement well.
Then he took two steps closer and glanced at the handwriting in her notebook. The handwriting was neat and clear, and the key points were clear, so he couldn't help but praise her, "You're well prepared."
"I'm worried the process won't keep up," she replied with a wink, adding, "I won't let this opportunity go to waste."
Ji Hanlin stopped beside her desk, his eyes glancing over the lines she had just drawn. Suddenly, he reached out and ticked off a time point she had marked incorrectly. "This part might be delayed. Please recheck the initial estimate."
She said "Huh" and immediately looked down.
He was right. She only referred to the schedule of a similar project last year and forgot that the client had temporarily changed the delivery standards this time, causing the overall pace to be advanced.
"Thank you, Mr. Ji, for the reminder." Wen Qianning quickly marked it out and patted his chest with relief after marking it out.
Ji Hanlin stared at her for a few seconds, inexplicably finding the woman in front of him somewhat amusing. He curled his lips slightly and said, "When you finish the first draft, you can send me a copy first."
Does this mean he'll personally guide her? Wen Qianning smiled happily. She nodded obediently and responded quickly, "Okay."
"It's getting late, let me take you home."
"Huh?" Wen Qianning waved her hand, fearing to cause unnecessary trouble to the busy CEO, so she decisively declined, "That's embarrassing. Don't bother you, I'll just take a taxi back."
"No trouble." His tone was calm, not sounding too forceful, but also not leaving her much leeway. "It's not safe for you to go back alone at this time."
"Okay." Wen Qianning thought about it and felt that it would be good to have a car to pick him up, so he didn't insist and quickly packed up his things.
The two walked all the way to the president's exclusive elevator. When the elevator door opened, the lights inside were soft and the carpet was exquisite and thick. It was obvious that it was specially customized for the male protagonist.
"Don't be distracted." The man glanced at her sideways, "Go in."
Wen Qianning walked in hesitantly and stood in the corner. The moment the elevator door closed, the space suddenly became quiet, with only the subtle rise and fall of their breathing remaining.
She stood very straight, shoulders straight, eyes fixed on the ground, as if staring at the carpet could slow her heartbeat. But she could still feel the cold and abstinent aura of the man beside her, approaching her nerves inch by inch in an irresistible way.
He seemed to still have the lingering scent of that night... She didn't know if it was her illusion or if he was really closer than before, but Wen Qianning felt a little dizzy now.
So she moved, as if trying to create some distance.
But at that moment, the elevator jolted slightly. Wen Qianning lost her balance, stumbled, and fell uncontrollably into Ji Hanlin's arms.
The man quickly reached out to support her, his palm firmly clasped around her waist. The distance between them was so close that there was almost no gap. She was almost completely pressed against his arms, her hands resting helplessly on his chest. Under her palms were the gently undulating lines of his muscles, firm and warm.
She swore that this time she really didn't throw herself into his arms on purpose!
"Sorry." Wen Qianning was startled and quickly tried to get away from his embrace, hastily apologizing, "S-Sorry, I didn't mean to..."
"It's okay." He turned his head to look at her, his eyes were indifferent, but inexplicably made people's legs weak.
She bit her lip and tried to look away, but Ji Hanlin suddenly raised his hand and brushed her hair.
He said slowly, "My hair is messy."
Wen Qianning was so frightened that she dared not move. Her ears were red and hot, and her heart was beating like a drum.
There seemed to be an inexplicable ambiguity in the air. Her heart was beating wildly. She didn't dare look at him and could only whisper, "Thank you..."
After what seemed like a century, the elevator door finally opened again.
She almost rushed out as if she had been pardoned, but the man behind her looked at her red earlobe, and a barely perceptible curve appeared at the corner of his lips.
On one side of the parking lot, a car that was obviously worth a lot of money was parked there. The moment the headlights came on, the cold white light reflected the three-dimensional eyebrows and eyes of the man.
"Get in." Ji Hanlin opened the door for her. Wen Qianning then got in the passenger seat. She lowered her head and fastened her seatbelt, not daring to glance at him.
"Where do you live?"
She gave her address.
Ji Hanlin said "hmm" and didn't ask any more questions.
As the car drove smoothly, Wen Qianning stole a glance at him. Ji Hanlin looked very serious as he focused on driving, his profile cold and handsome. As expected of the male lead, he was born with a charming appearance that could captivate everyone.
Soon after, the car stopped downstairs of the old residential building where she lived.
Ji Hanlin looked at the old building quietly. The street lights were dim and the surroundings were pitch black. He frowned slightly.
"You live here alone?"
"Yes."
"Which floor?"
"Fourth floor."
Wen Qianning was about to unbuckle her seatbelt, open the door, and get out of the car when he suddenly called out to her, "Wen Qianning."
"...Hmm?" She stopped and looked at him.
The man looked at her with a hesitant expression, as if he was considering something. After a while, he seemed to give up and just said, "Be careful and get some rest."
"Okay, thank you, Mr. Ji." Wen Qianning nodded with a smile and waved goodbye to him.
Ji Hanlin watched her go upstairs. Only after the lights on the fourth floor came on did he slowly start the car and drive away.
*
The next day.
"Xiao Wen, I have something urgent to go out for, so I can't deliver it in person. Please help me deliver this to President Ji's office." The director took a piece of information from the table and handed it to Wen Qianning in a hurried tone.
"Oh, okay."
Wen Qianning responded and walked towards the office at the end, holding the folder. As she approached, she heard Ji Hanlin's voice, clearly unfriendly, through the heavy door:
"Look at what you handed in yourself."
Wen Qianning paused, pursed her lips, and raised her hand to gently knock on the door twice.
There was no response, but the door was not locked, so she had no choice but to push it open. As soon as she stepped over the threshold, before she could open her mouth, a stack of folders suddenly flew out of the air and was thrown directly at her feet with lingering anger.
She lowered her head hastily, and the thick paper had already fallen halfway.
Ji Hanlin was also looking towards the door.
At that moment, the surprise in the man's eyes suddenly paused.
He still had a gloomy face, and the originally chilling aura around him disappeared in the blink of an eye after he saw the girl.
"Go and revise it, and hand me another copy before Wednesday." Ji Hanlin's tone suddenly softened as he spoke to another person present.
The person standing opposite looked stunned, obviously not realizing what was happening.
After a few seconds, he finally came to his senses and replied stiffly, "Yes..." Then he lowered his head and quickly picked up the stack of documents from the ground, moving cautiously.
Ji Hanlin didn't look at him again, but just raised his chin: "Get out."
The man, holding the documents, retreated quickly as if he had been pardoned. Before leaving, he glanced at Wen Qianning in disbelief, as if he couldn't figure out how he had walked out of that hell alive.
The door closed with a sound and the office became quiet again.
Wen Qianning was still holding the documents in her hands, standing there in a daze.
Ji Hanlin's gaze had already fallen on her face.
