Chapter 16 His Strong Arms

The sun is scorching and the sky is cloudless.

I don’t know where those well-behaved white clouds went this morning.

Chen Man looked at the layers of heat rising from the road, and her body felt even hotter.

When I got home, the workers behind me had gone back to escape the summer heat. The house was quite quiet, with only the sound of a TV drama coming from my grandmother's room.

Chen Man washed the fruit and chatted with her grandmother for a while.

The bamboo forest was shady, and Chen Man continued to clean up what she hadn't finished yesterday. The workload was lighter today, so she'd be done in no time.

This time she was more careful not to fall into the hole again.

Use a knife to clear the surrounding weeds and pull out the weeds on the bamboo path to prevent them from hiding small insects.

We cleared the area all the way to the river, just to make it safer to go to the river from here at night.

After cleaning up the surroundings of the house, the whole house looks less dilapidated.

Chen Manshu smiled knowingly and shook her head proudly, Chen Man, you are so awesome.

Next is to clean up the upstairs.

After cleaning, she will ask a decoration company to redecorate it. She saw on the Internet that wooden houses can be decorated very beautifully nowadays.

Renovate it to make it more windproof and rainproof in winter, and ask someone to clean the tiles on the roof to avoid leaks when it rains.

Chen Man went to check out the backyard and saw that the process was going very quickly.

They contacted the sand factory and brick factory themselves, so Chen Man didn't have to take care of anything.

The wall construction has now begun. This project is the fastest and it is estimated that the wall can be completed in two days.

As soon as I came out of the house, I was stopped by a middle-aged man.

"Sister, are you Chen Mansuo?"

Chen Man looked at him quietly, then nodded after a while, "Yes."

"Oh, that's right. I'm Leng Chunhua, the leader of our group."

"It's almost Mid-Autumn Festival, and our group has the tradition of sharing meals. Originally, we didn't come to your house to inform you, but since it's inconvenient for your grandma, and she's the only one there, we won't charge you any money. We'll just bring the food over for your grandma to eat."

"But Jun Yang said you were here, so he asked me to come and tell you specifically so I don't knock you down. Oh, should I speak Mandarin? Do you understand?"

Chen Man understood that this meant that they were going to pay for the Mid-Autumn Festival together.

"I understand, I understand. Thank you for letting me know. I'll give you the money right away. How much is it?"

Leng Chunhua waved her hand and refused, "I just came to inform you that you can come and have dinner together and help wash the vegetables. I won't charge your family any money."

Chen Man disagreed. Her grandmother could choose not to accept any money, but she was capable of doing so and could not accept such treatment for free. It would not sound good if it were made public.

"No, I have to give it to you. I'm healthy and I eat a lot, so why not take the money? Please wait while I get the money."

Leng Chunhua was relieved but couldn't stop him, so she quickly said, "Oh, that's fine. You're such a picky girl, what's the big deal? One hundred, one hundred yuan per family."

Chen Man went upstairs with thumps on her feet. The cash in her bag was specifically for taking back to her grandmother's house. She didn't expect that cash is not widely used in rural areas nowadays.

I glanced at my phone and it was already past four in the afternoon.

I washed a big peach and took a bite. It was so sweet.

Sitting by the railing, enjoying the breeze, shaking my white and tender feet, and reading the WeChat messages sent by my friends.

Just after I replied to the message and put my phone aside, I saw a man on the street carrying a large wooden tool out of Xu Junyang's yard.

Chen Man knew that it was a threshing machine.

The man was Xu Junyang, wearing a black baseball cap.

I saw him put the tools on the road beside the rice field, then turned around and lifted down the round wheel covered with iron needles on his grandfather's backpack.

Only after the wheels were lifted down did Grandpa Junyang put down the backpack.

Chen Man saw him bend down and take out a curved sickle from his backpack.

When he stood up, he glanced at Chen Man. Because they were far apart, Chen Man couldn't see his specific expression, but she felt that he was looking at her.

Chen Man quickly retracted her feet and smiled shyly at him from a distance.

He withdrew his gaze, walked into the field, bent down and began to cut the rice.

Such a wealthy family still farms, it must be because the elderly in the family can't sit idle. Chen Man found it a bit amusing to watch Xu Junyang bending over to cut rice.

Suddenly, she had an idea. She thought about how much he had helped her, and she didn't know how to repay him.

So she immediately went into the house, changed into a pair of long jeans, put on a sun-protective jacket, and tied her hair into a bun.

He ran to the edge of the field with a thud.

Xu Junyang and his grandfather were cutting the grass together, leaving a space in the middle. They were so busy that they didn't notice her.

Chen Man walked behind Xu Junyang, "Xu Junyang."

Xu Junyang put down the handful of rice in his hand and stood up. Chen Man saw that his face was flushed under his hat.

Xu Junyang looked her up and down at her clothes and guessed her intention. "What are you doing here?"

Grandpa Junyang is the kind of old man who looks very kind and honest.

Chen Man caught a glimpse of his grandfather looking at him. Chen Man smiled obediently, and he also smiled kindly, then bent down and continued cutting.

"I want to help."

"You are not needed here, go back."

"No need to reply. I can help. I can cut it and I can also help pass it." Chen Man said seriously.

Xu Junyang looked at her stubborn little face and didn't know what to say.

After a pause, he said, "The straw is very sharp and will cut your hand."

Chen Man raised her white and slender hands and looked at them, and Xu Junyang's eyes also fell on them.

"It's okay, I'm not that squeamish. I haven't done this kind of work before, so just think of it as an experience for me."
