Chapter 38 Your Secret Crush

"Hey, your crush is getting discharged from the hospital today, aren't you coming to pick her up?"

"It's her grandmother, not her. Is the doctor so careless in his words?"

"Come on, boy! I wish you success in finding your partner this year, or next year."

"Thanks."

The other party hung up the phone.

Xia Chengxi smiled in disbelief. Thank you?

This is the first time I see my cousin, who has always been noble and aloof, busy with love affairs. It's really fresh.

Chen Man returned to the ward with a heavy heart.

"Lao Man, what did the doctor say? Can I be discharged from the hospital?"

Chen Man forced a smile and said, "Okay, we'll go home today. I'll pack my things now and go to complete the discharge procedures."

I was busy packing my things when my cell phone rang.

It’s Xu Junyang.

"Hello?"

"Discharged today?" Xu Junyang's voice was still as gentle and low as when they first met, but it was a little lazy today.

Chen Man was in a bad mood and spoke in a sullen tone, "Well, grandma wants to go home."

"I'll pick you up."

"No! It's too much trouble." Chen Man quickly refused. She couldn't trouble others this time no matter what.

However, Xu Junyang said, "Are you going to bother me or your grandmother?"

Chen Man remained silent.

After being discharged from the hospital, I had to let my grandmother wait at the cold hospital entrance while I took a taxi. I didn’t know if the driver was willing to drive that far, and I didn’t know how long it would take.

Then, if I carry so many things with me, I may not be able to take good care of my grandma, and she may not be able to walk as far as the hospital entrance downstairs.

This really makes my grandma suffer.

"Wait for me at the hospital." Xu Junyang waited for her to be silent for two seconds before speaking.

"Um."

In just forty minutes, Xu Junyang appeared at the door of the ward.

"Grandma, I'm here to take you back."

Xu Junyang came in and without even looking at Chen Man, he walked straight towards his grandmother and started talking to her.

Grandma smiled and said, "How did you know I was being discharged from the hospital today? Why did you bother to come pick me up? I'll give you the travel expenses when I get back. I really feel bad for making you come all the way here in such cold weather."

Xu Junyang smiled at the old man with an especially sincere smile. "It's almost the New Year, so there's nothing to worry about. It's very convenient to have a car now. As for the money and other things, I'm a village cadre, so these are what I should do. If Chen Man hadn't come back, we would have sent you to the hospital."

When grandma heard this, she felt relieved.

Chen Man had been watching from the side. Upon hearing this, she looked at his tall, broad, and straight back. That back gave her an inexplicable sense of security.

Xu Junyang turned around and happened to meet her distracted gaze staring at his back.

"Have you packed your things? Have you completed the discharge procedures?"

Chen Man blinked and looked away, then turned to look at the things on the bed. "It's all done."

"Well, you carry the things up, and I'll carry your grandma."

"Okay, thank you for your hard work."

These days, Chen Man only went to the hotel opposite the hospital to book a room and take a shower during the day when her grandmother was sleeping. She never came out at other times.

Now sitting in the car and looking at the scenery outside, I felt like I had been locked up for a long time and finally saw the light of day again.

In the car, grandma occasionally spoke to Xu Junyang, and Chen Man listened silently.

After getting off the highway and heading towards the village, Chen Man discovered that there were many more cars on the road than usual.

After entering the village, I found that not only were there more people, but there were also many cars with out-of-province license plates, mostly from Fujian and Zhejiang.

When passing by the big place, there were even more people here, young and old standing together chatting.

Chen Man was a little surprised. Could it be that the migrant workers had returned for the New Year? Suddenly, this village felt so unfamiliar.

The sense of belonging that I had worked so hard to build up in my heart seemed to be shattered all of a sudden.

Looking at the unfamiliar faces through the car window, Chen Man felt like a cuckoo occupying someone else's nest. Now that the owner had returned, she, a foreigner, became restrained.

As Xu Junyang's car drove in, the crowd standing on the roadside chatting looked over.

Xu Junyang rolled down the car window and greeted the people outside, "You're back, uncle?"

"Hey, Junyang, where are you going?" A man about fifty years old standing in the crowd answered with a smile.

"Come to the hospital, I'll send the patient back first. Come to my house and sit down when you have time."

"Yes."

Chen Man was afraid that he would keep talking, so she prayed in her heart that he would leave quickly because she wanted to go home.

Xu Junyang's car drove away, but the discussion about him began.

"Jun Yang has been home all year this year?"

"It seems so. I heard it's for health."

"Other people can become officials if they take good care of themselves, but we can only work for the rest of our lives."

Regardless of whether the speaker meant it or not, these words are somewhat harsh to the listener.

"He has that little ability and education. If you had gone to university, you might be the county magistrate now. Who would say you are uneducated?"

"I don't even have enough education to work for his family."

"That's why I say, 'Educate yourself more and opportunities will come to you.' If you graduate from university, you'll be qualified to ask for jobs. For those of us who can't even read, forget it."

"Leng Leng, didn't he graduate from university? I heard he hasn't found a job this year. Why don't you go ask him?"

"They're here to take the postgraduate entrance exam, do you think they're just kidding?"

"Oh, to get into graduate school. That's a long-term vision. It's true that people who study different things. In their batch, only Xingzhi and Leng Leng were good at studying. And now look at them, one's getting into graduate school, and the other's a big star."

"I know if he'll come back this year. Then I'll take a picture with him and take advantage of his kindness. Haha."
