Chen Man walked through the cluttered main room and entered the kitchen. A wall divided the kitchen into two halves. The right side was the kitchen, and the left side, with its door closed, must have been the bathroom.
As soon as you enter, you will see the stove, behind the stove is the cupboard, and next to it is the water tank.
Chen Man took an iron basin from under the cupboard, scooped two buckets of water, pressed the black detergent pump, and washed the dishes.
She opened the cupboard, revealing three layers. On the top layer were some things packed in red, blue, black, and white plastic bags. Chen Man had no idea what they were. On the middle layer were a few scattered white porcelain bowls and large iron plates.
On the lower level was a black ceramic jar containing a white paste, probably lard, along with several bottles of soy sauce and vinegar with grimy necks, and a black ceramic salt shaker.
Although she is my own grandmother, I have to say that the hygiene conditions are a bit poor.
I understand it, but I can't be disgusted. It's normal that grandma is old and doesn't have the energy to clean. We have her here, and she will ensure that the house is clean.
Suddenly wanting to go to the bathroom, Chen Man opened the door behind the kitchen. She vaguely remembered that the bathroom was on this side.
The light was a little dim, and she saw an old-fashioned switch on the door panel.
She knows how to use it. With one press, the light comes on.
Abandoned pigpen and dry toilet.
Chen Man closed her eyes, unable to bear watching, and cautiously went to the toilet. Fortunately, she had put the tissue in her pocket. She saw a plastic bag hanging on the wall opposite the toilet, which contained the same kind of low-quality toilet paper.
She didn't dare use it for fear of getting sick.
After solving the hygiene problem, she left quickly and closed the door.
The suitcase was placed in the main room first. When passing by, Chen Man called out "Grandma" again.
"Grandma, I'm going upstairs to check on the sanitation."
"good."
The stairs to the upper floor are outside the main hall, along the corridor outside the house to the right. There is a spacious solid wood staircase here.
Chen Man thought that the purpose of building the wing room was to build a staircase here to go to the second floor.
Chen Man tentatively stepped onto the thick wooden staircase. It felt solid, without any creaking sounds, so there should be no problem.
The stairs made a slightly dull sound as they climbed up, but they were steady.
There are wing rooms upstairs, and two main rooms on the left and right, but there are no rooms above the main hall.
Chen Man opened the door of the wing room. It was dusty and there was nothing in the room except a wooden bed, two woven baskets, and some miscellaneous items on the bed.
This house is quite nice. The windows upstairs are not that high. When the two wooden windows are opened outwards, you can see the pear tree in front of the window.
There is a vegetable garden in front, fields and houses in the distance, and out of the window you can also see the bamboo forest on the right.
After looking at this room, Chen Man looked at the room on the right side of the main house next to the wing room.
When you open it, you'll see some worn-out and unused things, some discarded jars and vases.
There were also those old plastic flowers, a broken old cabinet, a fire cabinet, a few wooden boxes and some extra chairs and stools. It filled the whole room.
After looking at this room, Chen Man went to see her mother's room. This one was quite clean, except for a bit of dust. It had a Simmons bed, a wardrobe, and a dresser.
Chen Man walked in. Her mother must have lived here during the last Spring Festival.
I opened the wardrobe and saw a lot of my mother's clothes, quilts, sheets and quilt covers inside.
Chen Man's fingers slid across the clothes hanger and turned to the dressing table.
The drawer of the dressing table was opened, and a horn comb lay quietly inside. It seemed to have been waiting for a long time, but its owner did not come back.
Chen Man picked it up, and a tear as big as a bean fell on it and then splashed away.
Originally, her father passed away when she was in high school, and her mother was the only relative she had left.
Her mother's departure was a heavy blow to her.
That kind of sadness is not just the grief at the moment, but more of a long-lasting lingering thought in the heart.
It can even be said that as long as she doesn't think about it specifically or touch upon anything related to her mother, she will completely forget that her mother has passed away.
So every time I suddenly touch something and suddenly remember that my mother has passed away, I am shocked and find it hard to accept, and then my longing for her bursts out.
The heaviness of this longing made Chen Man's chest ache, her back could not be straightened, and her feet could not stand steadily. She could only slowly squat on the ground and cry bitterly.
But she had to comfort herself while crying.
"Chen Man, don't cry, don't cry. You can't let your mother go without peace of mind."
I heard that if someone's family members are still reluctant to let go after they pass away, it will make the next person feel uncomfortable. She was afraid that her longing would cause trouble to her mother.
When her mother first passed away, she often dreamed about her.
Dreamed about her funeral, or some strange dreams.
Until one day, her mother told her in a dream that she was leaving.
Chen Man asked her where she was going, and her mother in the dream pointed to the sky.
In the dream, Chen Man asked her not to leave, or if she could take her with her.
In the dream, when her mother said "leave", she meant simply "leave", not "die", but "leave one place and go to another". But she was still panicked and reluctant to leave.
Mom smiled, said nothing, and disappeared alone.
Since then, she has dreamed of her mother less and less frequently.
......
In the end, we decided to live in the wing room. Mom's room couldn't be moved, and the other room was too full of stuff. Coincidentally, the wooden bed was also in the wing room.
Chen Man cleaned out the things inside one by one and temporarily placed them on the balcony.
Two woven baskets, and the miscellaneous items on the bed. Chen Man cleared out some very old books, which were eaten by insects and had dense holes in them.
But one of the books I could see was "Name Studies." Chen Man flipped through it casually and found that people born in the Year of the Dog shouldn't use characters like "辰," "贝," "美," or "characters with the water radical"...
