Chapter 63 The Sound of Firecrackers

Chen Man found that she could do nothing. Xia Meng held her hand and sat quietly in front of the fireplace, as if waiting for a certain moment to come.

At around six o'clock, it was getting light outside.

Many villagers who heard the news came to the house, and there was a constant stream of people coming in and out of the room.

There was the sound of a car outside the door, and it stopped in the yard.

Many people got off the car, none of whom Chen Man knew, so they went straight into the house.

"The one in front is your grandmother's brother, and the others are his sons and daughters-in-law."

Seeing that Chen Man looked confused, Grandma Junyang told her some of the situation.

This house has never been so lively. There are so many people that there is no room to stand. Chen Man invites everyone to go to the back to warm up by the fire.

After everyone saw grandma, those who lived nearby went back.

People like my grandmother's younger brother and his family went to the back to warm themselves by the fire.

Thinking that everyone must not have eaten in the morning, Chen Man prepared to go to the kitchen to cook noodles for everyone. However, cooking was too much work, so she gave up.

There is a big bundle of noodles at home. In the countryside, noodles come in a big bundle. It should be enough for us to eat.

They all came to visit grandma enthusiastically, so it was only right to cook a simple breakfast for her.

Xia Meng knew that Chen Man needed help the most at this time.

It's not just because my son has feelings for someone else, but more importantly, as a neighbor, I should show up at this time.

This is how our ancestors have helped each other for generations.

"Chen Man, go look after grandma, we'll just do it."

There was a group of people gathered around grandma's bed, all talking to her.

At first, grandma could still say a few words to everyone, until her brother and his family came. After chatting happily for half an hour, she stopped talking.

"I'm a little tired. Where's Chen Man?"

Chen Man hurried forward, held her grandmother's hand and sat next to her.

"Grandma, I'm here."

"Man, poor little girl, find a good husband as soon as possible, and you will have a family after getting married. Everything will be smooth sailing in the future."

Chen Man's throat was choked with pain, the tip of her nose was sore and unbearable, her eyes were red, and she felt so uncomfortable that she didn't say a word.

"I'm a little tired. I'll take a rest. Go and make me some porridge."

Chen Man coughed a few times to make sure she could speak, and replied, "Okay."

There was no one in the room to disturb, everyone came out.

Everyone squeezed to the back, and Chen Man found that the carpets and other furniture and objects that were easy to get dirty and easily bumped into were all picked up and neatly placed aside.

Without Chen Man's invitation, everyone lit a fire and sat around together.

Xia Meng, Junyang's grandmother, and a woman from my grandmother's brother's family were busy in the kitchen.

"Chen Man, ask your grandma if she wants to eat something, and we'll cook it together."

"She said she wanted to eat porridge, so I can just cook it in the rice cooker."

"Okay. Hurry up, if you want noodles, come and get them yourself." Grandma Junyang shouted to the large group of people warming themselves by the fire.

Everyone stood up and came over, all feeling a little hungry.

A slightly plump old grandfather, who looks not much younger than grandma, but very energetic.

He smiled and looked at Chen Man, "You probably don't know me?"

Chen Man smiled shyly, "Is it my great uncle?"

"Oh, yes. You've been taking care of your grandma all this time. Thank you for your hard work."

"It's not hard. I'm blessed to have grandma around."

The old man was moved. He looked at Chen Man's face and then nodded.

Xu Junyang handed a bowl of lard noodles sprinkled with chopped green onions to Chen Man, and naturally, without looking at her for long, he invited Chen Man's uncle to go to the table to eat noodles.

Chen Man looked at the noodles in her hand, then looked at Xu Junyang's busy figure.

He blinked quickly, hiding the emotions within.

She took a couple of bites of the noodles, then walked to the main room and looked into her grandmother's room.

I saw grandma lying on the table.

There was no one else in the room.

A person, looking very lonely.

Grandpa Junyang looked at the door and then walked in.

He bent down, gently reached out and patted his grandmother's back, "Guizhen, Guizhen?"

Grandma didn't react.

Grandpa Junyang raised his voice, "Guizhen?"

Grandma still didn't respond.

Grandpa Junyang hurriedly helped grandma up. Chen Man saw that her grandma's eyes were tightly closed and she had no reaction.

She was already panicking, and her hands were shaking as she held the bowl.

She was panic-stricken, her head buzzing like a chaotic signal.

"Come quickly." Grandpa Junyang shouted loudly and carefully helped grandma lean back on the chair.

Chen Man listened to the sound of bowls clattering onto the table, chopsticks rolling on the floor, and everyone's hurried footsteps.

She was panicked, upset and wanted to cry.

I didn't know what to do with a bowl of noodles.

Everyone rushed in, one by one trying to check grandma's breath and observe her expression and reaction.

After the investigation, he shook his head mysteriously at the others.

Chen Man wanted to cry but couldn't. Now she just wanted to do something to help.

She has no experience in dealing with funeral arrangements.

Chen Man was in a daze and only heard someone next to her telling her to go out and make room, as she was not needed here.

Soon, everyone burned incense and paper and set off firecrackers in an orderly manner, and the old ladies inside wiped grandma's body and put on clothes.

"Chen Man, have you prepared your grandmother's burial clothes?"

Chen Man suddenly remembered what her grandmother said yesterday and said quickly, "Yes. My grandmother said she wanted to wear the blue embroidered shoes and the clothes in this box."

Just two minutes after the firecrackers sounded, people arrived one after another.

"Are you scared?" Xu Junyang asked in a low voice when he passed by her.
