Huang Shan
Buzz—
The overwhelming swarm of rat-head flowers burst into a burst of intense light after colliding with the formation beneath Yanshi Ridge. Instantly, the ground shook and sand and stones flew, directly knocking over the nearest group of people to the ground.
"Get all the bystanders out of here!"
Someone shouted.
The group of people, who were dazed and confused from the fall, were then helped away and scrambled to their feet.
Just as the Rat-Head Flower was forced back by the formation, it seemed to catch its breath and continued its aggressive charge towards the protective formation.
The burst of intense light revealed faint cracks, which only fueled the rat-head flower's frenzy.
"Squeak squeak squeak squeak—"
Just as a disciple who had formed a spiritual bond stood firm, a demonic sheep at his feet hurriedly used its horns to hook his leg and pull him back.
A pleasant fragrance wafted to my nose, and the menacing rat-head flower in front of me suddenly changed its appearance.
Some people began to walk outwards, bypassing the protective array...
The rich fragrance of flowers filled the air, and Huang Ge was so overwhelmed by the stench that she felt dizzy and disoriented. In her daze, she saw Kou Feng, who looked silly as ever, waving at her from the sea of flowers and beckoning her to come over.
"I……"
She shuddered, a cold sweat breaking out on her back. Looking closely, she saw a disciple kill her own demon beast with a single strike, muttering incantations.
"stop!"
Brother Huang slashed at him with his sword, and as the fierce demonic energy pierced through the disciple's chest, a strange smile appeared on the disciple's face, and a protective array suddenly appeared from the ground.
All they could hear were the squeaking sounds, and the other disciples followed closely behind, all of them bewitched by the Rat-Head Flower and rushing towards Yanshi Ridge.
This is insane!
Despite the mind-numbing fragrance, Brother Huang slashed at the encroaching sea of rat-head flowers with his sword. Almost simultaneously, Kou Feng's voice came from behind him.
"Royal——"
A formation suddenly appeared beneath Brother Huang's feet.
"Bullying!"
Her entire body shone brightly, and a sharp arc of light swept towards the surging rat-head flowers with unstoppable force.
Buzz—
A deafening roar filled everyone's ears, and their minds buzzed. Their chaotic consciousness returned to clarity, and the disciples who were close to the magic circle trembled violently and scrambled back.
The once-fierce rat-head flower withered halfway in an instant and slowly shrank towards Yanshi Ridge.
"What...what happened?" Kou Feng was out of breath from running. He was about to lean on Brother Huang's shoulder when Brother Huang turned to the side, causing him to stumble. He pretended to stand up straight and followed Brother Huang's gaze. "What's that?"
"I don't know, it feels disgusting." Brother Huang said succinctly, "The formation has been triggered and needs to be reinforced."
"Master isn't here!" Kou Feng scratched his head and thought for a moment. "My bookish junior brother is quite knowledgeable about formations. Let's try asking him first."
As they were talking, a disciple who had just crawled back from near the magic circle suddenly screamed and desperately scratched his back. The other disciples hurriedly retreated upon seeing this.
A rat-head flower suddenly sprouted from the disciple's back, squeaking incessantly.
"Ahhh—"
Brother Huang swayed and brought his knife down.
"Don't hurt anyone!" Kou Feng shouted urgently. The blade paused just before the rat-head flower. The disciple let out a scream that was not human, and his whole body withered instantly. The rat-head flower immediately fell to the ground.
Brother Huang slashed again, and Rat Head Flower rolled on the spot, instantly transforming into a tabby cat and darting into the bushes.
"Why is it a tabby cat?" Kou Feng muttered to himself, while Brother Huang had already chased after it.
He released a mosquito and said to it, "Little White, there's something wrong with the protective array. Come and check it out quickly."
He then said to the other disciples, "Isolate all the injured here and notify Tongming to handle the situation."
Tong Ming was the alchemist who had been sent to him earlier.
After settling everything in, Kou Feng followed closely behind Brother Huang.
"Brother Huang, there are people in town, don't hurt the innocent." He silently prayed to himself, and soon heard Brother Huang cursing, "Why don't you go and restrain that dead cat?"
"Was that really a cat?" Kou Feng muttered as he ran.
The town's main street was bustling with activity at this time, packed with people, and filled with shouts and cries of vendors. Occasionally, mischievous children would run by in the street. Suddenly, a gust of wind swept in from the south, overturning a pancake stall. The scalding hot pot exploded in the street, and flying embers instantly flew towards a group of stunned children.
"Shut your stinking mouth!" Brother Huang cursed inwardly, quickly scooped up the child and threw him toward the panicked passersby. The passersby saw the child flying out of thin air and hurriedly caught him.
The tabby cat was as fast as lightning, but because of the town's complex terrain, it was temporarily trapped inside, and kept charging around recklessly.
Chaos erupted in the street. People were confused and ran around like headless flies. When the tabby cat realized it couldn't shake off its prey, it suddenly turned sharply and pounced on it.
Brother Huang sneered. Seeing it come to him of its own accord, he swung his knife down. The tabby cat dodged instantly, avoiding a fatal blow, and raised its sharp claws. The nauseating aura emanating from it grew stronger. She swayed and slid smoothly past its claws, narrowing her eyes as she asked, "Kou Fen'er?!"
The tabby cat suddenly stopped moving. A small white flower had appeared on its forehead, which upon closer inspection was clearly a miniature version of the rat-head flower.
"Little White Flower, right!" Brother Huang's eyes were immediately drawn to the flower on its head.
Upon seeing this, the tabby cat turned and ran away.
When Kou Feng finally reached the street, panting, he found it in complete disarray, with not a soul in sight. Several young men were helping each other up, and all the shops that could be closed were shut.
He was panting heavily, feeling like his heart was about to jump out of his chest from running all the way. Just as he caught his breath, he heard Brother Huang urgently shouting in his mind, "Get out of the way, it's coming!"
Kou Feng slipped and fell onto the vegetable vendor's stall. A cold glint flashed in his eyes as a sharp claw grazed his nose. The next moment, Brother Huang kicked out, and the tabby cat screamed as it crashed into the steamed bun shop across the street.
Screams quickly erupted from the steamed bun shop, especially the crazed tabby cat's cries, which were even more piercing.
"There's something wrong with that cat!" Kou Feng said hurriedly.
Brother Huang rushed forward and blocked the tabby cat's claws with a knife. In the depths of his scarlet eyes, Kou Fen'er was crying and hugging the tabby cat, which startled Brother Huang for a moment. The tabby cat took the opportunity to slide across the blade and raised its claws to kill the couple hiding behind the counter.
Almost simultaneously, an array suddenly appeared beneath Huang Ge's feet, and light rapidly expanded from her center. Whether it was an illusion or not, the tabby cat's movements suddenly slowed down a bit.
Taking advantage of the moment, Brother Huang slit the tabby cat's throat with a knife, spurting out foul blood. She even had time to throw the couple hiding under the counter aside.
The formation instantly contracted, like a net, tightly binding the tabby cat within.
"This is pointless, it's already dead!" Brother Huang glanced coldly at Kou Feng, who was covered in vegetable leaves.
Kou Feng, leaning against the door, gave her a forced smile. "Just in case..." he said, catching his breath, shaking off the vegetable leaves on his clothes, and slowly stepped forward. "Let me see... what exactly is this thing..."
As he approached, the tabby cat, which had been tilting its head, suddenly started clucking. Huang immediately shielded Kou Feng, the blade gleaming coldly. Kou Feng patted her shoulder reassuringly and casually said, "Life and death are predestined, wealth and honor are determined by fate. If I really die, you should go back to the Monster Garden and find a decent master."
"Kou Feng!" Brother Huang suddenly flew into a rage. "If you keep spouting nonsense, I'll tear your mouth apart!"
"Tsk...his temper is getting worse and worse, he's so hard to please..."
As he spoke, he continued to approach the tabby cat, only to see that the tabby cat, which should have been dead, was visibly recovering. Its tilted head was raised again, and Kou Feng's increasingly terrified gaze was reflected in its scarlet eyes.
“Master… Master…” Kou Fen’er’s tearful voice came from the cat.
Kou Feng trembled and took a half step back. "You, you are... Fen'er?"
"Help, help us..." The tabby cat paused, then "Meow—"
"We...are..." The tabby cat struggled desperately, "Meow, meow, meow—"
The angry meows of the cat mingled with Kou Fen'er's sobs, making Kou Feng tremble with fear.
"Master, Master..."
"Wait, Fen'er, what's going on?" Kou Feng subconsciously brushed away Brother Huang's hand.
Brother Huang instantly became alert, "Don't go over there!"
She missed her target, and the tabby cat suddenly looked up and grinned at her.
"Kou Feng!"
Brother Huang's pupils suddenly contracted, and the tabby cat's body suddenly swelled up. In the last moment, there was a loud bang, and a burst of cold light. She was heavily pressed down, and her mind went blank. Half of the shattered roof collapsed, splinters flew everywhere, thick smoke billowed and dust flew everywhere. A large black rat ran out from inside, followed by more and more rats surging out in droves.
"Kou... Kou Feng!"
Brother Huang kicked away the beam pressing down on the two men, wiped his hand, and saw that his eyes were covered in blood. "Kou Feng, Kou Feng!"
"cough……"
Brother Huang threw down the knife and hurriedly helped him up from his body, his eyes filled with panic. "You'll be alright, Kou Feng, speak up! Say you're alright, speak up!"
"Cough cough..." Kou Feng forced a smile and leaned against Brother Huang. "It's nothing..."
"That's good...that's good..." Brother Huang quickly helped him up, "I'll take you home first...I..."
She felt a warm sensation on her hand, and thick blood flowed down between her fingers. She gasped and slowly looked at Kou Feng's back, where a bowl-sized hole was bleeding profusely from his chest.
"Kou Feng—"
Huang Ge's pupils trembled violently, as if something had exploded in her mind. Just now, at the critical moment, that thing's target was her!
"Kou Feng! Are you fucking crazy?! I don't need you to protect me, I fucking, I..."
His vision blurred for some reason, and Brother Huang choked up as he carried Kou Feng on his back and ran wildly, leaving a trail of blood in his wake.
"Ah Shan...hehe...don't be angry, it's not pretty anymore..." Kou Feng's hand slowly brushed across Brother Huang's face, as if he could see his own future. He chuckled, "My mouth...it's not good...don't keep nagging me..."
"Don't sleep, don't close your eyes, Kou Feng, Kou Feng, Kou..."
The voice was so close yet receded into the distance; it was cold and arrogant, but now, as it reached my ears, it sounded like a mournful sob.
—From today onwards, your name will be Huang Shan! How about I call you Ah Shan?
