Chapter 5 I am here to listen to the sutra

Chapter 5 I am here to listen to the sutra

In the early morning, the bells of Fahua Temple rang out, and the sound of Buddha's voices filled the air.

Even the women who came to the Zen temple with Su Rui were sitting under the eaves to meditate.

Su Rui came back from outside, covered in mud and carrying a basket of wild vegetables.

After taking a quick look, he prepared to go back to his meditation room from the side.

"Isn't this Miss Su? How did she get so embarrassed? She was thrown out of Feiyun Pavilion last night. She was too embarrassed to come back, so she hid in the mountains and dug wild vegetables."

The woman who had a conflict with Su Rui yesterday became sarcastic when she saw Su Rui come in.

Su Rui didn't remember it for a moment yesterday, but later he remembered that this woman was Zhao Enen, the concubine's daughter of the Shaoqing of Guanglu Temple. She used to be a close friend at banquets in Beijing, and she had been good friends with Zhou Yao for several years.

Zhao Enen is two years older than Zhou Yao. She should have been arranged to get married before she was punished. Why she came here is intriguing.

But Su Rui was not interested in other people's affairs.

Seeing Su Rui continued forward as if she hadn't heard, Zhao Enen was once again ignored by her and so angry that she rushed forward to block her way. "I'm talking to you. Are you deaf? What? Do you think you're still the high-ranking daughter of the Marquisate?"

Zhao Enen looked up and down at Su Rui's embarrassment with a sneer in her eyes. The person who was originally untouchable was now in such a miserable state, inferior to herself, that she could look down on him with contempt. This feeling was so refreshing.

“Hmm!”

Before Zhao Enen could enjoy herself for long, Su Rui stuffed a handful of wild vegetables into her mouth. The bitter and earthy taste immediately burst out in her mouth, making her feel sick.

But she couldn't move her mouth. Even though her stomach was churning, her throat and mouth felt like they were not her own.

When he was surprised, Su Rui curled his lips in disdain and left.

"What's wrong with you? Why don't you spit it out?" Someone familiar came forward and pulled the wild vegetables out of Zhao Enen's mouth, saying in surprise, "Ah! Your mouth is all swollen."

"Look at you, why did you mess with her? She even managed to get into Feiyun Pavilion last night. Who knows, maybe she and Mr. Yunji are really..."

"That's impossible. Wasn't she thrown down? And the wooden fish in Feiyun Pavilion was ringing all night last night. Mr. Yunji never left at all."

Su Rui didn't hear the rest of the words after he closed the door of the meditation room.

But the wooden fish sounded all night long, and she could hear it clearly.

It seems that the incense last night was not completely ineffective.

Looking at the wild vegetables in the basket that she had spent a whole night digging, she felt even more confident of winning. As long as she could force the man out, everything would be fine.

Calculating the time, Su Rui hurriedly took a shower, changed into clean clothes, and slipped away from the wall towards the meditation hall that the little monk mentioned.

It was already two quarters past noon, and Yun Ji's voice, as clear as a spring, could be heard in the Zen hall.

It is the Shurangama Sutra, which talks about analyzing the essence of "mind and nature" and defeating demons to prove the truth.

Su Rui dug out the cushion she had hidden last night from the corner of the wall on the other side, patted the dirt off it and walked into the meditation hall.

"I'm sorry, I'm late."

The interrupted monks turned around and saw Su Rui, dressed in a moon-white dress, stepping over the threshold.

She was dressed much more formally than yesterday, but even so, with her naturally charming face, she had a taboo feeling of a demon wearing a Buddhist veil.

"Donor lady, this is the meditation hall, and we are giving a lecture." The older monk began to explain.

"I'm here to listen to the lecture." Su Rui took out a cushion from behind her. "Don't they say you can listen to the lecture just by sitting on the cushion in the Zen hall? This one is from the Zen hall, right?"

Su Rui looked at Yun Ji and pushed the cushion forward, fearing that he couldn't see clearly.

That cushion is actually from the Zen hall.

This is the rule of Buddhist temples, and it is the same everywhere.

Yun Ji never looked at her from beginning to end, he just picked up the scriptures and started to lecture.

The older monk understood what he meant and stepped forward to guide Su Rui to sit in a corner so as not to disturb the monks in class.

Su Rui sat down obediently and didn't make a fuss.

Buddhism was prevalent, and every noble family had its own ancestral temple. Ordinary people also worshipped Buddha statues at home. However, Su Rui had never liked chanting Buddha's name since he was a child, and he would feel drowsy when listening to Buddhist scriptures.

This is true even today.

Not long into the lecture, my eyelids felt as heavy as lead, opening and closing constantly, and my head moved like a chicken pecking at rice, making it impossible for people around me to concentrate on the lecture.

"Recite the Heart Sutra."

Yun Ji's voice was like a clear mountain spring, instantly refreshing the heart.

Su Rui sat up straight with a start, and the monks began to recite the Heart Sutra under Yun Ji's leadership.

The roar of the voices should have made Su Rui's mind clearer, but he became even sleepier.

He pecked at the rice more frequently and accidentally bumped into the people around him.

"If you don't want to listen to the sutra, you can leave on your own." Yun Ji's cold voice came from above his head.

Su Rui raised her head sleepily, looking at Yun Ji, whose expression remained normal and eyes were filled with compassion. She smiled and shook her head: "If I had the heart to do it, I wouldn't have come if I hadn't."

The wording is vague, and I don't know whether this refers to listening to the sutra or to people.

And those charming eyes were staring straight at Yun Ji.

"Hui Neng, come and sit here."

Yun Ji called out, and a monk who was broad and fat, as tall as half a wall, stood up and walked to the seat in front of Su Rui designated by Yun Ji and sat down.

Suddenly, Su Rui was completely shrouded in shadow. She was originally in the corner, and now the three sides combined to form a cage, and no one from the outside could see her at all.

Unless she gets up.

But as long as she left the futon, she would definitely be taken away, and she would have no reason to stay.

Tsk, this bastard is really cunning.

Unwillingly, he poked the 'wall' in front of him with his finger, but there was no response at all.

It's just like a wall, insensitive to pain or itch.

Helplessly, Su Rui could only grit her teeth and take out her treasure from her sleeve pocket, holding her breath, crushing it and scattering it forward.

After a few breaths, the 'wall' began to shake slightly.

Then he couldn't stop pecking at the rice.

Finally, it collapsed to the left with a loud snoring sound.

The gaze that had just been pulled back converged again. Su Rui blinked her innocent eyes and raised her hands to explain, "I didn't touch him. Perhaps Mr. Yunji's lecture today was too hypnotic."

When Yun Ji was giving a lecture, everyone pricked up their ears to listen. How could he possibly be hypnotized?

But the 'Wall' monk was indeed at a certain distance from Su Rui, and no one saw Su Rui do anything, and the 'Wall' did fall down on its own.

Seeing the smugness in Su Rui's innocent eyes, Yun Ji put down the scriptures and looked directly at her for the first time. "Miss Su, please stop disrupting the scriptures."

“I’m here to listen to the sutra.”

"If the lady is unwilling, I will have to ask someone to invite her." Yun Ji was about to say something.

Su Rui spoke first, "Sir, do you want to invite other girls? But I'm the only one who knows about this place now. If someone else comes, they might seize this opportunity."

Even if there was no cushion, and she was not so bold as to risk her life, she would not waste the opportunity. She would stand outside the meditation hall and wait to approach Yun Ji.

Yun Ji avoided people because he didn't want to cause any more trouble and would not let those women come.

But here, there are only monks, how could they lay hands on her?

If it was Yun Ji, that would be her chance.

Just when Su Rui concluded that Yun Ji couldn't do anything to her, two figures fell from the eaves in front of the Zen hall door.

He had a scimitar on his waist and murderous eyes.

It’s the secret guard!
