Chapter 12

12 Chapter Twelve

I will no longer wag my tail and beg for her like a lowly dog.

Hengji's heart was in turmoil. After asking a few more questions, she realized it was indeed true. Yanqing seemed completely ignorant of worldly affairs. Everything was a blur, as if he had been raised to be foolish.

She could only ask her mother-in-law to come and personally teach Yan Qing. Heng Ji also vaguely sensed that Yan Qing's feelings for Lu Yue were not like a child's longing for his mother, but rather somewhat like romantic love. He was too young; rather than being locked up in the secret realm, he was being raised in captivity.

If someone like him were to step outside Lu Yue's protection, the consequences would be predictable. He would either become prey for the demon race or be used to blackmail Lu Yue.

Perhaps Lu Yue really wanted to abandon Yan Qing, after all, he was good for nothing except for his pretty face. But Heng Ji liked such an innocent and vulnerable child and would raise him well.

After entrusting Yan Qing to her mother-in-law, Heng Ji bumped into A Yao as she stepped outside. He wore a flamboyant scarlet brocade robe and a golden mask, his bewitching and cold beauty like a vibrant wildfire. His attendants carried several pieces of luxurious fabric behind him.

Seeing his sister there, Ayao said disrespectfully, "You should stay away from him. This is just a way for Luyue to provoke me. I will become Yanqing's father, and you will be his aunt."

Heng Ji was so angry that she laughed instead. The beauty who was originally given to her was now going to become her nephew.

"You're overthinking it."

Ayao gritted his teeth and said in a deep voice, "Luyue told me that this child's heart meridian is damaged and he shouldn't have survived. She has gone to great lengths to raise Yanqing to this day, and you could say she treats him like her own child. Luyue is only temporarily leaving this child with us because she is going through a molting period."

Hengji knew that the child's body was as frail as a cicada's wing. Regardless of Luyue's purpose in placing Yanqing in Chunhu, she should now shatter her younger brother's delusions.

She coldly raised her hand and knocked the mask off. Ayao instinctively covered his face, but couldn't hide the deep whip mark. The attendants behind him quickly lowered their heads at the sight, not daring to look any longer. Ever since the young master returned from the Demon Realm, he had been wearing a mask and locking himself in his cave, refusing to come out.

The proud and arrogant Ayao knelt on the ground in a sorry state, trying to cover the extremely ugly scar with his black hair. This was the mark given to him by Lu Yue, and also the proof of his humiliation.

Even in the Demon Realm's main hall, in full view of everyone, the noble Prince Chunhu was whipped on the face he cared about most by Demon Lord Luyue.

The fox clan is known for its allure, and disfigurement is almost always a death sentence. What A Yao cares about most is his face; every stroke of his face is just right. No matter how wicked his temperament is, he is always easily forgiven when he sees that face.

He also knew that Lu Yue loved his face and would always gently kiss his brow. Just when A Yao thought he could stay with Lu Yue for life, she personally attacked him for the sake of that sickly old man, Wen Ruo.

Ayao didn't remember how he left the main hall, only the contemptuous, mocking, pitying, and laughable looks he received. He dared not go out, fearing that someone would bring up the matter and humiliate him.

Hengji loved her younger brother dearly, but didn't want him to make the same mistake again, so she had no choice but to reopen his wounds: "Have you forgotten who gave you the scar on your face?"

Ah Yao said self-deprecatingly, "I made her angry, that's why she treated me like this."

"If she truly cared for you, she wouldn't have done this."

"Lu Yue doesn't understand love yet, after all, the snake race is inherently cold-blooded."

"Stop deceiving yourself. How could Lu Yue truly love Yan Qing? She has been secretly and carefully nurturing him all this time. The scar on your face could have been removed long ago, but you've kept it to remind yourself of your past foolishness and naivety."

You're delusional to think that Lu Yue will only love one person? Don't be ridiculous. She's inherently ruthless. As long as someone is pretty and suits her taste, she'll take them in, and then move on to the next one when she gets tired of them.

Ayao covered his face with one hand, while reaching for the mask that concealed his shame with the other. He forced himself not to cry, even though he had been openly humiliated by Luyue. He still remembered that snowy night when he met her on the verge of death, and how overjoyed he felt.

When her cold, purple eyes looked at him, there was no fondness for his stunning appearance, only disgust that told him to get lost. As the young master of the fox clan, he was spoiled and had never seen anyone treat him so coldly. A Yao secretly vowed to win her heart, but in the end, his sincerity was crushed to pieces.

Ayao put on his mask from the ground and said calmly, "I know I will never again wag my tail and beg for her like a lowly dog."

He wanted to make Lu Yue regret everything he had done to him.

Hengji breathed a sigh of relief when she saw him make the vow; as long as her brother wouldn't remain so obstinate, that was good. Love always hurts, and he wouldn't suffer too much if he could be free from it sooner.

Yan Qing, who was inside the room, suddenly asked in a weak voice, "Is Father still here?"

Ayao instinctively replied, "I'm here."

Hengji was so angry she almost fainted. Where was her brother who had just sworn an oath? Before she could stop Ayao, he had already gone inside.

"snort."

A short, low laugh came from behind the siblings. Wen Ruo calmly walked to Yan Qing's side, looked at A Yao and smiled, "I am his father."

Ayao's expression was stern: "Nonsense!"

Why should Wen Ruo be the child's father? He's lived for tens of thousands of years and could easily be his ancestor.

Hengji was really at her wit's end, so she could only drag her waving, aggressive younger brother away first.

Yan Qing noticed that Wen Ruo's timidity had diminished considerably. Since his father had taught him more since childhood, he felt closer to him.

He looked up expectantly and asked, "Will Your Majesty bring me back?"

Wen Ruomei smiled, mocking Yan Qing's naivety, her tone slightly cold: "No, you're doing very well in Chunhu. You're free and unrestrained, and Heng Ji treats you well too. Looking around, a weak demon like you doesn't even have the qualifications to enter the Demon Realm."

Yan Qing's heart sank to ashes, and her bright eyes suddenly dimmed: "Yes, I shouldn't have implicated Your Majesty."

Wen Ruo stroked his hair, suppressing the disgust in her eyes, and said affectionately, "Yes, that's a good child."

The mother-in-law remained silent throughout, her demeanor more awe than respect for Wen Ruo. Having witnessed his true power, she naturally feared for Chunhu's safety.

Wen Ruo comforted Yan Qing, and as soon as they left the cave, she asked, "Where is the fox demon Yu Shi in the Pure Fox Clan?"

The old woman looked surprised, as she had never heard him interested in anyone. But after investigating, she found that the demon was indeed in Chunhu's territory, so she sent several little demons to take the adults there.

Wen Ruo arrived at a remote village in Chunhu. Upon seeing that face, he first sneered and chuckled.

She wasn't as beautiful as he had imagined, not as beautiful as the women he had arranged for Lu Yue, except for that white rabbit spirit, of course. Wen Ruo stroked the white rabbit fur on her collar, and couldn't help but smile slightly.

Upon hearing that the person was an important figure from the Demon Realm, Yu Shi bowed respectfully upon exiting the gate: "May I ask what business you have with me, sir?"

"I know you once served the Demon Lord. Did she sleep with you?"

Yu Shi's fox fur bristled, her gentle and soft face twisted, and she said with a sinister look in her eyes, "You are simply too rude. Even if you are a guest from the Demon Realm, I may not necessarily give you any face."

Seeing that she had already gotten the result she wanted from her attitude, Wen Ruo replied lazily and nonchalantly, "It seems there isn't any."

"Your Excellency only came to chat for a few minutes." Yu Shi thought that her expression had relaxed a lot, but she still felt disgusted with Wen Ruo.

"I need to know what she wanted to talk to you about and what she said."

"You're probably meddling too much."

I am giving an order, not consulting with you.

Wen Ruo's tone was drawn out, then her eyes darkened slightly. Yu Shi felt her neck being tightly constricted, making it difficult to breathe.

The fox demon beside him wanted to step forward to stop him, but fearing his strength, he dared not move.

“I didn’t want to use force, but you seem unwilling to use gentle methods and insist on making things difficult for yourself. If you want to become an idiot, I can directly check your spiritual consciousness.”

Yu Shi's face paled; she seemed to have been deceived by his handsome and delicate appearance. He was definitely not as frail as he appeared.

Her face flushed, and she was forced to say, "She came to see me three times, but each time she just sat for a while and then left."

"Never mind, I'll check it myself."

Wen Ruo raised her hand and placed it directly on her head. Black mist entered her head, and Yu Shi struggled in vain, her eyes gradually becoming empty.

After an incense stick had burned, Wen Ruo smiled slightly; he had finally found what he wanted.

The rainy night was damp and cold, but the Fengyue Tower in Fengdu was still bustling. Warm fragrance filled the tower, and Yu Shi looked out the window, her expression languid, casually fanning herself with a silk fan.

She used her charm to steal the cultivation of many demons, and while she was bored, she saw a woman carrying a knife.

Her long boots trod on the bluestone slabs, raindrops cascading down her silver armor, and a black iron snake coiled around her waist. Yu Shi was momentarily stunned, then the other woman looked at her before entering the brothel.

Yu Shi's intuition told her that she had come to find her, and sure enough, a quarter of an hour later she entered her room.

Lu Yue was only there to rest for a short while. After Yu Shi helped the master bathe, she lay down peacefully on her chest and fell asleep.

She seemed very tired, and her breathing gradually became steady after a short while.

After that, she always came to Fengyue Tower in the same way, except that she slept in Yu Shi's arms for a while.

After a few exchanges, Yu Shi jokingly asked, "Who are you missing?"

Lu Yue replied, "I once slept like this in someone's arms, so does that mean I like her?"

Yu Shi was taken aback, then covered her face and laughed: "There are many kinds of feelings, and many kinds of liking. Do you want to possess her all to yourself?"

"No, she's very nice and warm."

"Perhaps you only see her as your mother."

Yu Shi knew that the snake clan were solitary beings, and the word "mother" was utterly foreign to her. Lu Yue stared blankly for a long time, and then never returned.

"I see, how boring."

After getting what he wanted, Wen Ruo left decisively. He wanted to know Lu Yue's past, everything about it, something that had never piqued his interest as much as any of the previous Demon Lords.

Even for Chongli, Wenruo was only curious about who the woman was who could conquer such an arrogant and conceited man.

Just as Wen Ruo was about to look at that foolish child Yan Qing, her heart suddenly ached, a pain she had never felt before.

What happened to His Excellency?

Inside the Demon Realm, Aman could no longer hold on, but seeing the other party's stubborn resistance, she simply tempted him, saying, "I really don't understand why you're helping her. You were originally a revered immortal in Shangqing. Just because you were forcibly brought to the Demon Realm by Luyue, even if you go back, there will probably be a lot of criticism. Why don't you let me in, and we'll split her inner core equally?"

Upon hearing this, Xueji lowered her eyes and gradually loosened her grip.
