Chapter 603 Self-Abandonment
One second.
Two seconds.
Ten seconds.
When Zhou Zhenxing confirmed that Su Jin, who was in the ward, was not a hallucination, he excitedly forced himself to sit up from the hospital bed.
Along with this comes a severe feeling of dizziness caused by weakness.
Su Jin simply stood there, staring at his bloodless face.
Zhou Zhenxing finally managed to lean against the headboard, but he was already panting heavily. "You...why are you here?"
His voice was also terribly hoarse, as if it were a parched voice from the desert.
"I heard you were dying, so I came to see you." Su Jin's words were not words of comfort, but rather sounded like she was there to gloat.
Instead of getting angry, Zhou Zhenxing laughed. He looked like he was about to die.
"You must be happy to see me like this, right?"
After all, he was the one who let her down, and now that he's in such a sorry state, she must be very happy.
Su Jin retorted, "Why should I be happy?"
Zhou Zhenxing was slightly taken aback. "I'm sorry for what I did. I guess I'm being punished by God."
These past few days, whenever he closed his eyes, all he could see were images of Daliushu Village.
If he hadn't divorced, perhaps his mother wouldn't have died; it was all his fault.
Su Jin's voice was cold. "First, you haven't wronged me. Second, what you're doing isn't God's punishment, but your own choice to give up on yourself."
To claim one's cowardice is a punishment from God—what does that have to do with God?
Zhou Zhenxing's breathing became increasingly rapid. He wanted to refute, and although he had already opened his mouth, he didn't know what to say.
He could accept her self-abandonment.
But why won't they even accept his apology?
"I betrayed our marriage, of course I'm sorry!"
For the first time, he began to truly examine his past.
He also hoped that Su Jin could show genuine emotions, instead of her current indifference.
Su Jin shook her head. "Actually, even if you hadn't brought up divorce, I would have done it anyway."
She knew what Zhou Zhenxing was thinking. It was rare that they could talk calmly now, so it was time to make things clear.
Zhou Zhenxing's breath hitched, and he stared at her in disbelief.
Su Jin continued, "Back then, because I lost my memory, your parents saved my life, which is why I agreed to marry you."
"Are you trying to say you're doing this to repay a debt of gratitude?" Zhou Zhenxing tried to remain calm, but his trembling voice betrayed his emotions at that moment.
"Even if you married me at first out of gratitude, you still have feelings for me, and I can feel it!"
This is absolutely beyond doubt.
Su Jin did not deny it, saying, "I did have feelings for you."
Even if it were to repay a debt of gratitude, she could not possibly marry someone she disliked.
However, goodwill doesn't even reach the level of liking, let alone love.
What Zhou Zhenxing heard was her affirmation of their relationship, and even his originally gloomy eyes regained a glimmer of light.
But he quickly clenched his fists again, muttering in anguish, "I ruined all of this...it was me..."
When he returned to Daliushu Village, he stayed by his mother's bedside. On her deathbed, his mother was still telling him to be a good soldier and to live a good life with Su Jin.
On the day he buried his mother, many people from the village came to help, and almost everyone was concerned about Su Jin's condition.
