Chapter 2 Return to the City
Hehehe!!
early morning.
Liu Guizhi was awakened by hunger.
"Mom, I've made some porridge, have some."
Su Jin walked in carrying a bowl of porridge.
"Did I spend my family's money again?" These were the first words Liu Guizhi uttered upon regaining consciousness.
She looked frustrated, wondering why she was so useless.
Su Jin comforted her, "Your health is the most important thing, so don't worry about these things."
With her husband gone, all the family's savings were gone, so how could Liu Guizhi not worry?
"Do you think Zhenxing didn't receive the telegram? Otherwise, why wouldn't he come back?"
Now, all her hopes are pinned on her son, Zhou Zhenxing.
Su Jin tightened her grip on the spoon, but quickly regained her composure.
"Perhaps."
He handed the bowl of porridge to Liu Guizhi.
Liu Guizhi then gathered her thoughts, "Didn't we run out of food a long time ago?"
Looking at the corn porridge in the bowl, she knew this was definitely not something that should be in her house.
Su Jin told the truth: "I borrowed some grain from Aunt Wu this morning."
Liu Guizhi felt even worse. "I'm already this old. It doesn't matter if I eat one more or one less bite. You eat it."
Her husband is dead, and she's so sickly; we really can't let our daughter-in-law suffer in the slightest.
Su Jin: "I've already eaten. You should drink it while it's hot."
Hearing her say that, Liu Guizhi finally put the bowl of porridge to her lips.
"Su Jin, are you home?"
A sweet, delicate female voice came from the courtyard.
Before Su Jin could leave, the door opened and Li Tong walked in from outside carrying a bundle.
"Su Jin, I have amazing news for you! I can go back to the city!"
Li Tong was overjoyed; her face, which had been covered in frostbite, regained its radiance.
Smash!
Before she could finish speaking, the bowl in Liu Guizhi's hand fell to the ground.
Because the ground was made of adobe bricks, it didn't break, but the remaining half bowl of porridge spilled all over the ground.
Liu Guizhi's face was extremely pale, but she quickly said, "I'll clean up, you guys chat!"
Without waiting for Su Jin's reaction, he grabbed a broom and came in.
Completely immersed in the joy of being able to return to the city, Li Tong did not pay attention to Liu Guizhi's reaction, but instead held Su Jin's hand with some reluctance.
They were both sent-down youths and had gone through so much hardship together over the years that they had come to regard each other as family.
Su Jin was naturally happy for her, "When are you leaving?"
"The carriage is waiting at the village entrance. I've come to deliver something to you."
Li Tong excitedly handed Su Jin his cotton-padded coat that he had worn for several years, a box of lotion that was mostly used up, and several red ribbons.
"I don't need any of these, you can keep them all!"
Su Jin did not refuse. These things were not lacking in the city, but they were treasures to them.
Li Tong said goodbye to her and left without looking back.
Being able to leave this remote mountain village, return to the city, go home, and reunite with family is something that all the educated youth sent to the countryside dream of.
Su Jin stood at the door, watching her cheerful departing figure, her shifting eyes lost in thought.
"Xiao Jin, has something come to mind?"
Liu Guizhi appeared behind her without her noticing, nervously rubbing her hands together. She asked the question cautiously and then stared intently at her reaction.
Yes, Su Jin has amnesia.
Just three years ago, a month before she married Zhou Zhenxing.
