Chapter 61
Chapter Sixty-One
Meng Yingying didn't believe her, stubbornly shaking her head: "You're hiding something from me." She stared directly at Zhou Xiuqi, who didn't flinch, but instead asked, "Us?"
Meng Yingying raised her hand, then lowered it, looked at him, and slowly said, "Zhou Xiuqi, Xiao Zheyu, Shang Mang, I originally thought only Shang Mang and Zhou Xiuqi knew something, but now I suspect not only them, but also you, Xiao Zheyu." She called them by their names directly, no longer referring to her as Meng Yuan.
Meng Yingying's expression was solemn as she leaned against the door. She didn't know if she was excited or what; she was so close to the truth. Even based on her guesses, the tip of the iceberg they had shown was enough for her to deduce some things.
Her throat was a little dry. Meng Yingying had originally wanted to wait a little longer, but now she couldn't. She didn't dare to trust them, which was a terrifying thing. Zhou Xiuqi, Shang Mang, and Xiao Zheyu might be plotting against her, and so far, she hadn't seen this trap that would kill her. But she couldn't see anything else either.
Xiao Zheyu said, "Meng Yuan, you've been influenced."
Meng Yingying ignored all of them and spoke alone, "I can no longer trust you." Her voice was firm. "Perhaps you all know how this world works, and you all understand your own identities." Meng Yingying didn't elaborate; this was a false world. Some taboos would still be avoided.
She had wondered why she always seemed to identify with the character of Meng Yuan; it was something she couldn't control. She always felt that some of her behaviors weren't like herself, which made her feel strange. She hadn't been a particularly righteous person before. But after coming to this world and taking on the identity of Meng Yuan, she suddenly felt a strong urge to save people.
Shang Mang remained silent, as did Zhou Xiuqi and Xiao Zheyu. None of them offered an explanation, even though Meng Yingying wanted to give them a chance to speak. Meng Yingying swallowed hard, suppressing her own speculation: "If you don't tell me, I won't travel with you from here on out."
She turned to leave.
Zhou Xiuqi called out to her, but Meng Yingying didn't turn around; she kept her back to them.
Zhou Xiuqi: "Now is not the time."
Meng Yingying clenched her fists, feeling a surge of anger rising to the top of her head. They had completely deceived her, only to tell her it wasn't the right time yet. Was it really time to kill her here?
She turned around, abandoning her carefully maintained composure, and shouted, "You've been plotting against me from the very beginning! Everything I thought was wrong, everything I believed was wrong, and everything I saw was wrong, all because of your schemes! You've left me completely clueless! Like a fool, I followed you, her, and all of you!"
"In the end, you led me to a dead end!"
She put her hands on her hips, then suddenly pointed to the sky: "And this damn world! You brought me here, arranged for you all to torture me. If you wanted to kill me, you should have just not given me the chance! You bunch of foxes, playing me for a fool!" She couldn't get enough of cursing; her chest heaved. Life without heart disease was truly wonderful; she didn't have to worry about her heart rate changing. She exhaled a sharp breath.
A thought suddenly flashed through my mind.
She thought of Teng Yu'e from Xinghua Village. She too had been tricked after transmigrating and went mad. Was that why she ran away with others? Things she didn't understand suddenly became clear. Looking at those people, it was as if paper figures had suddenly come to life, and she got goosebumps.
"Hahahaha—" The loud laughter was particularly jarring in the tense atmosphere. Meng Yingying knew who it was without even guessing, and she glared at them angrily.
Shang Mang opened his arms and slowly walked up to her: "I'll tell you."
"If you kill me, you can leave this world."
"As long as you use your sword to kill me, you can leave immediately." He smiled, his eyes gradually turning red. The pain of a rupture throbbed in his heart. Meng Yingying suddenly clutched her wrist and frowned.
Meng Yingying: "Do you think I'll believe you?" Her eyes were full of doubt. Lack of sleep had made her eyes bloodshot, which added to the pain in Shang Mang's heart, causing him to frown.
"Why don't you try and see?" Shang Mang tilted his head and smiled, his eyes crinkling, revealing his cunning.
Meng Yingying leaned against the door, a slight vibration coming from her back.
Knock knock—
A knock suddenly sounded at the door, and Shouquan's voice came from outside: "Gentlemen, it's past noon, time for lunch."
No one spoke from inside. Meng Yingying's emotions had been on a rollercoaster, but now she had suddenly calmed down. Meng Yingying had always been like this; her emotions would affect the rhythm of her actions, so she never did anything while emotional.
"How many people are there?" Shouquan knocked on the door again.
Zhou Xiuqi nodded to Meng Yingying. The current situation wasn't suitable for her to be conflicted; she had no choice but to go with them. She wasn't the type to act unreasonably. Meng Yingying opened the door. Behind Shouquan stood two boys, the same height, the same appearance—they looked exactly alike. Meng Yingying recalled that the two brothers from before had different appearances and demeanors, but these two now looked and had the same air about them.
The only difference was that one of the boys smiled when he saw her open the door.
Meng Yingying recognized Shou Changyue and smiled in return. When her gaze returned to Shou Quanli, his eyes were deep and he looked down at her, making her feel uncomfortable. She looked back and said, "Thank you for your trouble."
Shouquan smiled and looked at her. "I've never seen you before, young lady. Are you a Taoist priest too?"
Meng Yingying smiled back: "Yes, he is my senior brother." She raised her chin at Zhou Xiuqi, and Shouquan was somewhat surprised: "The disciples of Qingyou Temple are quite friendly to each other."
Meng Yingying continued with a stiff smile: "Basic etiquette when traveling." Although she wasn't in a good mood, she responded to every word.
Shou Quanli said, "I have prepared lunch for you all. Would you mind if we ate together?"
Meng Yingying didn't speak. After all, Zhou Xiuqi was the leader among them now, so he should be the one to say it. Zhou Xiuqi stepped forward and cupped his hands in greeting, saying, "Thank you for your trouble." Meng Yingying glanced at him sideways, and Zhou Xiuqi noticed her glance and his lips moved, but he ultimately didn't say anything more.
Meng Yingying then thought that it would be great if she had mind-reading abilities like Shang Mang, so she could know what these foxes knew. Zhou Xiuqi led the way, following behind them.
Meng Yingying tried to follow, but her wrist was grabbed, and she stopped.
"What are you doing?" She didn't even need to turn around to know who it was.
Shang Mang walked to her side, turned to get closer to her, and asked, "Are you angry?"
Meng Yingying was taken aback, but inexplicably felt a little relieved. She took two steps back and said, "No, how could I dare to be angry with you?"
