Chapter 257 But her heart is true.

Chapter 257 But her heart is true.

They call them unflattering photos, but after flipping through several volumes, they're just pictures of Si Jingxu crying or having a dark expression.

Yan Buyu envied him.

From birth to his graduation from university, his mother meticulously documented his life.

However, she's doing well too. Since her mother came into her life, she's had her first photo taken.

As she grew up, she always felt awkward in front of other people's cameras because of her social anxiety.

Her brother even went to learn photography specifically for her.

"Aunt Huiwen took such great photos; the lighting, angle, and timing were all perfect."

He praised her sincerely without saying a word.

Ling Huiwen was overjoyed. "I couldn't share these photos with anyone else, and I was so frustrated. Luckily, you know what's good for you. Auntie is so relieved."

"What's wrong? You feel better now?" Si Jingxu, dressed in a gray casual outfit, came in with the waiter who was serving the dishes.

Ling Huiwen immediately looked at Yan Buyu nervously, "But I didn't ask him to come. I said it was just a girls' gathering."

Fearing that Yan Buyu would mistake her for a traitor who betrayed her friends, she immediately distanced herself from him.

She smiled gently and reassured Ling Huiwen, "Aunt Huiwen, I know."

She's the spy.

Ha ha ha ha.

Ignoring his mother's disapproval, Si Jingxu greeted Lan Xinyan, "Aunt Lan."

"Jingxu's here! Please have a seat. We haven't started yet. Are you busy today?"

Lan Xinyan welcomed Si Jingxu's arrival with great enthusiasm; she liked this future son-in-law.

Ling Huiwen stared blankly at Yan Buyu's smile for a long time.

There was a strange sense of familiarity in the moment she smiled with her head down.

It's a smile from ancient memories.

But I can't remember where I've seen it before.

"Aunt Lan, this is almond milk stewed bird's nest. I don't know if it suits your taste, but please give it a try."

Knowing that the girls were having a get-together, Si Jingxu immediately instructed the family chef to stew a few pots of food, and luckily they made it in time.

"You're such a thoughtful child," Lan Xinyan said back to Ling Huiwen. "How did you raise your child? So considerate."

Ling Huiwen smiled but didn't say anything.

Little did she know, her son had never brought her any sweet soup.

He's only after that girl.

But it didn't matter to her; Si Chengli was exceptionally kind to her.

Her mother-in-law was jealous back then, but she wasn't.

"What are you laughing at secretly?" Si Jingxu asked Yan Buyu while the two mothers were chatting.

As soon as he entered, he noticed that the child's smile was off.

Now he was grinning so hard his eyes were practically closed.

Although he liked her smile, her current appearance was definitely tainted with malice.

Yan Buyu shook her head; she couldn't reveal the matter of the photos.

Otherwise, Aunt Wen won't take her along next time there's something fun to do.

"Hey, I brought a gift for Buyu too!" Ling Huiwen clapped her hands, signaling the waiter to bring over the cake.

When Si Jingxu saw the cake, his smile froze, and he forgot to ask his girlfriend why she was grinning mischievously.

Could his mother have made this herself?

"Don't speak, this is something your aunt made for you herself."

Si Jingxu closed his eyes, and that was the end.

"Oh, thank you so much, Aunt Huiwen! You're amazing! You can even make cakes! This one looks so beautiful. Did you do the piping? It's like the work of the master chef at the shop."

Ling Huiwen was so pleased with the compliment that she personally cut a large piece for Yan Buyu.

"Hey, Mom, Buyu, give me this piece. I didn't eat lunch this afternoon and I'm a little hungry." Si Jingxu reached out and took the cake that was almost in Yan Buyu's hand.

"Don't be in such a hurry, there's still so much left. Give that one to Buyu." Ling Huiwen glared at Si Jingxu. "I've changed the formula."

She knew why her son did this and quickly explained.

Yan Buyu sensed something was wrong and, under Si Jingxu's worried gaze, took the cake.

Lan Xinyan received a pastry of the same size.

When he was explaining to Si Jing, he waved his hand and said, "She has a small appetite, so I'll eat with her."

It's a normal cream cake, with a chocolate cookie base, fruit and cream filling, and pretty piping. Everything looks normal.

I cut a small piece with my fork and put it in my mouth.

Yan Buyu and Lan Xinyan exchanged a glance.

He understood why Si Jingxu had tried to stop him earlier.

To be honest, there's no comparable taste to describe this cake.

The cream has a sweet taste with a slight sourness, but it's not the sourness from spoiled food; it's just pure sourness.

After the initial sourness, a bitter aftertaste lingers.

The dough had cocoa powder added, so it didn't taste sweet; it was just pure bitterness.

A small bite goes into the mouth, hard to swallow, but even more embarrassing to spit it out.

Ling Huiwen looked on expectantly, "How is it? I've improved the recipe, it's definitely tastier than before, right?"

She enjoys making cakes by hand, but she also likes to modify recipes.

They have an inexplicable confidence in their skills.

She firmly believes that every time she modifies a recipe, it will become a revolutionary change in the baking industry.

I've failed many times before, but I'm sure I'll succeed this time.

He drank the juice that Si Jingxu handed him without saying a word.

"Ah, um, Auntie, your flower is so beautiful. I would believe you if you told me it was made by a master craftsman with many years of experience." Yan Buyu swallowed the bite of cake, not wanting to lie or tell the truth directly.

Ling Huiwen understood. "Ah, it doesn't taste good. I'll try it."

She took a bite, remained silent for a while, and then called the waiter to remove the cake.

"I'm so sorry, I really intended to do it properly," Ling Huiwen said with a smile to Lan Xinyan, "but the recipe just doesn't work, and it doesn't look right after a slight modification."

Lan Xinyan recovered and said, "Baking is quite difficult, but you baked the dough to perfection and the piping is beautiful."

“It’s been so many years, I’ve mastered it all. I’ll revise the recipe again later and invite you all to my house for a meal.” Ling Huiwen didn’t hold back at all.

Si Jingxu whispered in Yan Buyu's ear, "My mother treats you and Aunt Lan like family. She has never given cake to anyone outside her family. To her, being able to eat a cake made by her own hands is the highest honor."

Even though it's not good.

But her heart was true.

“I know, Aunt Huiwen is very good.” Yan Buyu said softly, “Brother Jingxu, you are very lucky, Aunt Huiwen loves you very much.”

Love can shine through the eyes, and it can also be revealed through a person's lens.

“My mom showed you pictures of me when I was little,” Si Jingxu said. “What did you see?”

"How did you know?" Yan Buyu turned his head in surprise.

Si Jingxu raised an eyebrow. "You saw everything?"

He tricked her into revealing herself, and Yan Buyu mimicked his gesture by raising an eyebrow. "You saw it all, a chubby, adorable little boy. What's wrong?"

Ling Huiwen and Lan Xinyan exchanged a smile and tacitly lowered their heads to drink their sweet soup.

Two mothers and their two children enjoyed a delicious and heartwarming meal.

After the event, Si Jingxu silently instructed, "Don't tell anyone about the hike this weekend."

He's had enough of group dates; having Qin Nianke is already superfluous.

Yan Buyu spread his hands and said, "I'm afraid it's not going to work. Brother Long Yu invited us to his restaurant for a tasting this weekend, but I said I wanted to go hiking, and he already knows that."

Si Jingxu's eyelids twitched.

It turned into a team-building activity again.
