Chapter 339 Why can you drink but I can't?
After finishing her skincare routine, Chen Buyu went back to her room and slept for a while.
I glanced at my watch; it was time to go downstairs to cook dumplings. I yawned and opened the door.
He stood there, mouth agape, stunned.
Mu Zi changed her usual all-black outfit and put on the red sweater that she had prepared for her, paired with black jeans.
She was gentler than usual.
It looks great.
A hint of unease flashed across Mu Zi's face.
She had never worn it like this before, and it felt a little awkward.
How about we change it?
"You look great, Mu Zi!" Shen Buyu quickly came over, took Mu Zi's hand and looked her up and down. "You look really good. Your skin is fair, and red suits you very well. You're also slim and have good posture. The turtleneck sweater suits you very well."
Shen Buyu's series of precise praises gave Mu Zi a bit of confidence.
“I’ve never worn red,” Mu Zi said.
“Then let’s start wearing it this year. Even if we don’t like it normally, it should be different during the holidays, just for good luck.”
"Okay. I'll give it a try." Mu Zi nodded.
After going downstairs, Mu Zi's change surprised everyone.
But I didn't show it, afraid that she would feel uncomfortable.
Even the usually chattering Acheng didn't jump around Muzi like that.
Lan Xinyan nodded gently, "It looks good. After all, you're a girl. Take advantage of your youth to wear all those colorful clothes. It'll be too late when you're older."
"Thank you, Madam," Mu Zi said earnestly.
The Shen family are all good people.
There were no servants in the house, but fortunately there were many people, and each of them was perceptive.
No one was idle; everyone came to help.
The hot dishes were served hot, and the plates were arranged beautifully. In no time at all, a large table of New Year's Eve dinner was presented before us.
"Buyu, there are nine small fish dumplings with gold ingots inside. Put one in each bowl, and don't forget any," Lan Xinyan instructed.
"Okay, Mom, I understand." Shen Buyu carefully scooped out the small fish, one by one, and placed them on top of each bowl.
That way, everyone who eats the first dumpling will find a gold ingot inside.
I was in a good mood from the very beginning of the New Year's Eve dinner.
"Brother! Help me get the dumplings!" Shen Buyu shouted towards the restaurant.
"Coming, I'll do it, don't move." Shen Yunqi jogged over, "Go to the side and wait, don't burn yourself."
This is how it always is on New Year's Eve.
After the dumplings were laid out, Shen Zhiye returned with Shen Yanzhou and Song Jingyi, having selected the wine.
Nine people sat around a large round table.
"Dad, say a few words." Shen Buyu was flanked by Shen Yanzhou on his left and Song Jingyi on his right.
According to her, she usually spends Chinese New Year next to her older brother, but this year she will be spending it next to her eldest brother and brother who are spending the holiday at home for the first time.
Shen Yunqi has grown up and no longer fights with them for seats; he obediently stays by Lan Xinyan's side.
Shen Zhiye held his wine glass and glanced around.
They were all children.
"The fact that we can all gather at home for dinner on Lunar New Year's Eve this year shows that we are all destined to meet. Please come to our home more often in the future. I also wish you all a successful year ahead in your work and studies. Come and have a drink with us."
Apart from Chen Buyu's juice, everyone else had a glass of wine.
"Mom, please say a few words." Shen Buyu put down his cup and turned his gaze to Lan Xinyan.
Lan Xinyan, wearing the same red sweater as her, smiled gently and said, "What Dad said is exactly what I wanted to say. I'll just add one more thing: in the new year, you should all take good care of yourselves and stay healthy and safe."
Upon hearing her mother say this, Chen Buyu's eyes instantly welled up with tears.
So much has happened in the past year.
Several times she was on the verge of death.
Peace and health may sound ordinary, but we only realize their value when we lose them.
"Are you hungry?" Shen Yanzhou tilted his head and teased his younger sister, "What do you want to eat first? Big brother will get it for you."
Shen Buyu chuckled, "I want to eat pig's trotters."
“Yes, pig’s trotters are good, they’re full of collagen,” Shen Yanzhou handed his younger sister a handkerchief. “Once Dad starts eating, your older brother will get you some.”
"Thank you, brother." Shen Buyu paused for a moment. "Happy New Year, brother."
"Happy New Year, no words needed."
Shen Yanzhou never knew that spending the New Year with someone you like could be so enjoyable.
"Alright, let's start eating, kids." Shen Zhiye picked up his chopsticks. "Don't be shy today, everyone. Let's have a lively and festive New Year together, since it's our own home."
During a joyous festival, such a lively scene would make anyone happy.
Chen Buyu took the first bite and, as he had wished, enjoyed the braised pork trotters.
She chewed for a while, then turned to Song Jingyi and asked, "Brother, do you like pig's trotters?"
Song Jingyi chuckled. Her younger sister had some sauce on her lips, making her incredibly cute.
"I love to eat," he said, handing her a tissue. "I love everything you love to eat."
"Then why can you drink but I can't?" Shen Buyu stared at Song Jingyi's wine glass with longing.
Others are one thing, but she and her brother are related by blood.
Why should we give her special treatment here?
This question stumped Song Jingyi; the usually quick-witted man froze for a moment.
"Well…"
"Miss, why don't you try again? You can work on your alcohol tolerance, maybe it will improve once you can drink more?" Acheng poked his head out from next to Muzi.
It's no secret that Shen Buyu acts out when he's drunk.
In fact, Shen Buyu had really thought about this question.
But... she thought about it, but she didn't have the courage to put it into practice.
"Forget it, I'll just stick to drinking juice. What's so great about that alcohol? Right?"
“Yes, it doesn’t taste good.” Song Jingyi immediately replied, then picked up a piece of meat for her with his chopsticks.
"You drank so much even though it didn't taste good," Shen Buyu glanced at him unhappily. "I've heard that you don't eat properly, but you drink every single time. You can't do that."
"Okay, brother, I'll drink less in the future, eat properly, and only drink when I have social engagements, okay? Little fish, be good, eat now." Song Jingyi promised while coaxing his sister.
"Alright, hurry up and eat your dumplings, they won't taste good if they get cold," Lan Xinyan urged. "There are gold ingots inside, watch out for your little teeth."
Shen Buyu chuckled and tipped off Shen Yanzhou and Song Jingyi, who were unaware of the rules, "Eat the small fish first."
Over the next few minutes, everyone ate a small gold ingot weighing ten grams.
Acheng held the little gold ingot in his hand, unable to put it down.
He loves gold, but he has never received anything weighing such a small amount.
Even now, these little ones are quite fun to carry around in your pocket.
Song Jingyi wiped the gold ingot clean and carefully placed it into a red amulet he wore close to his body.
Shen Buyu noticed it with his sharp eyes.
That was something she begged for on the mountain last time.
Surprisingly, my brother has been wearing it all this time.
After several rounds of drinks and several dishes, everyone had eaten and drunk their fill. Shen Zhiye stood up and said, "Come on, kids, it's time to give out your New Year's money."
