Chapter 423 Reluctant to Let You Go
"Dr. Su prescribed you medicine, so why don't you take it?" Si Chengli stood beside Si Jingxu's bed. "You're not getting an IV drip or taking any medicine, what are you trying to do?"
"What else could you be doing?" Ling Huiwen, who had just finished contacting Shen Buyu, pushed the door open and came in. "Isn't it just that you want to make yourself look pitiful and fool our little cutie Buyu?"
Si Jingxu had a high fever of 39 degrees Celsius.
Leaning back on the bed, full of confidence, "You told her I was sick?"
"You contacted the doctor yourself, refused to eat or take medicine, and kept me and your father up late at night, all for this result?" Ling Huiwen walked over, frowning. "Have you no backbone at all? You still have to resort to this self-inflicted suffering."
"Watch your words. How is this a self-inflicted injury? I just caught a chill from the rain. Can't I get sick?" Si Jingxu picked up his phone, but there were no messages.
“It’s normal, it’s normal,” Si Chengli patted his wife’s hand. “Let him burn it. It won’t make him stupid in a short time. Once Bu Yu comes, he’ll be fine.”
“You seem quite experienced,” Ling Huiwen changed the subject, “Back when we had a fight before we got married, you got sick afterwards, was that all an act?”
Si Chengli never expected that after so many years, the matter would be brought up again because of his son.
He smiled ingratiatingly and put his arm around his wife's waist. "Otherwise, Jingxu would have been born two years later, but I was indeed sick at the time."
Just as Ling Huiwen was about to say something to him, Si Chengli immediately brought the topic back to his son.
“Son, this won’t do. You’re full of energy and look perfectly fine. You need to be a little more miserable and pitiful. Then we’ll feel sorry for you and maybe we can hold our grandson sooner.”
“I’m not going to go along with you guys,” Ling Huiwen pushed Si Chengli away. “My message to Buyu just now was unnecessary.”
“Honey, you can’t say that. We’re not trying to trick you into marriage. We just want our future daughter-in-law to feel sorry for our son,” Si Chengli said. “Don’t you want our little cutie Buyu to call you Mom sooner? Besides, he’s been living at home for years, which is affecting our time together.”
"Why don't you two go outside and talk?" Si Jingxu, who had only had a fever, suddenly felt a headache. He closed his eyes and rubbed his temples. "If only you kept your voices down."
Ling Huiwen frowned as the butler jogged up and said, "Miss Shen has arrived."
After being tormented by his own parents, Si Jingxu no longer needed to pretend.
He's feeling much worse now.
"That's great, that's great! My future daughter-in-law is here!" Si Chengli patted the patient's leg. "Son, you need to be more ambitious. Our family has been preparing the dowry for years but we can't give it away. You need to work harder!"
"Hmph." Ling Huiwen snorted coldly, "If I weren't in a hurry to get my little cutie Buyu to call me Mom as soon as possible, I would definitely expose you two, father and son."
"Aunt Huiwen, Uncle Si." As soon as Shen Buyu entered the room, he noticed that the two of them looked unwell, and his heart sank.
Si Jingxu is not usually prone to illness, but when such a person suddenly falls ill, it is usually quite serious.
Her pace quickened. "How is Brother Jingxu?"
“Ah, Jingxu,” Si Chengli frowned and sighed, “sigh, he can’t take his medicine.”
Ling Huiwen silently raised her foot and stepped on Si Chengli's instep.
"Oh, so you're getting an IV drip?" Shen Buyu wanted to go to the bedside to check on him, but with the elders around, she couldn't rush over. "Can't we get an IV drip?"
“Buyu, don’t worry, Jingxu has always been in good health, he’ll be fine,” Ling Huiwen said as she led Si Chengli outside. “Let’s talk to the doctor and get him an IV drip as soon as possible. You take care of him for now.”
As soon as the elders left, Shen Buyu immediately ran to Si Jingxu's bedside and softly called out twice, "Brother Jingxu, Brother Jingxu?"
Si Jingxu coughed twice, opened his eyes, and asked in a hoarse voice, "Why are you here? Is it still raining? Did you get wet?"
"The rain has stopped, I'm fine, but why aren't you taking your medicine?" Shen Buyu touched his forehead, which was burning hot even in the cold weather.
"Please sit down." Si Jingxu patted the bedside.
“I’m wearing my coat, don’t worry about me,” Shen Buyu glanced at the few pills on the bedside table. “Is this your medicine? I’ll get you some water, can you try taking it? Getting an IV drip is too painful.”
"Sit down." Si Jingxu grasped her wrist and made her sit down.
Shen Buyu looked at his hand; it was quite strong.
Why do you speak so weakly?
"Cough cough cough, remain silent." Si Jingxu suddenly coughed violently.
"Don't rush, speak slowly," Shen Buyu quickly helped him catch his breath and coaxed him gently, "Let me help you up to take your medicine, okay?"
"Mmm," Si Jingxu replied softly.
Shen Buyu was heartbroken.
When the two of them were together, Si Jingxu was always the one protecting her; he had never been this weak before.
"I'll take the medicine, don't cry." Si Jingxu stroked her face with his right hand, wiping away the tears on her cheeks with his thumb.
"Can't you swallow it?" Shen Buyu's eyelashes were wet with tears, threatening to fall, as she asked Si Jingxu, "Is your throat uncomfortable?"
"Yes." Seeing her like this, Si Jingxu lost his desire to play the victim.
He swallowed a few pills in one gulp, picked up the cool water on the table, and gulped it down.
"Then you should sleep for a while. The medicine will take effect soon. You need to rest more during this time so that you can recover quickly."
Shen Buyu got up, supported his shoulders, and helped him lie down.
Si Jingxu gazed at her tenderly throughout, saying, "I'm sorry for not speaking."
"Huh? What did you say?"
“It’s my fault for not doing a good job, letting some clueless people come up to you and cause you trouble,” he said, holding her hand and gently kneading it. “It’s all my fault.”
In the years he's been with her, he's become much kinder than before.
So much so that some people have truly forgotten his methods.
They actually dared to cause trouble in front of her.
Of course, it was all his fault.
The person you love most, weak and helpless, apologizes in front of you for a mistake that wasn't even yours.
Shen Buyu felt a mix of bitterness and tenderness in her heart. "Don't say that. It's because I'm too gentle in my daily actions that they have the illusion that I'm easy to bully. I won't do that anymore. Huo Qingci is not as good as me at arguing."
Si Jingxu smiled, then coughed a few times.
"I'm not going to talk to you anymore. You should rest. I'll go back first and come see you later, okay?" Shen Buyu covered him with the blanket and touched his face.
Finally, she leaned down and kissed his cheek. "Be good, okay, Brother Jingxu?"
Si Jingxu swore that he wasn't faking it.
The moment Chen Buyu finished speaking and stood up to leave.
He suddenly felt like crying.
The moment the tears fell, Chen Buyu saw them.
That tear felt like a stone had hit her heart.
There was a heavy weight hanging from his foot, and he couldn't move it no matter what he did.
She leaned over and touched his forehead. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Si Jingxu nuzzled her face against hers, his moist eyes fixed on her, "I don't want you to leave."
