Chapter 443 I Might Be Going to Be a Dad
"Then... have one last piece?" Si Jingxu couldn't stand her longing look, so he picked out the prettiest piece of meat and put it in her bowl.
The perfectly cooked pork belly with three layers of fat and sugar is cut into bite-sized pieces, stewed until tender and flavorful, with a reddish-brown color. The steam and aroma penetrate straight into Chen Buyu's heart.
She picked up the piece of meat. "I know I shouldn't eat it. I'm really full. But Brother Jingxu, do you know what it feels like when your stomach is full, but your heart isn't?"
Si Jingxu didn't understand.
He only knew that his wife looked at that piece of braised pork with more affection than she looked at him.
"Shen Buyu, don't be picky about food," Shen Yunqi, sitting on her other side, whispered. "I've been watching you for a while now, and you're only eating meat, not a single vegetable?"
"I don't want to eat it. It's all green and doesn't look appetizing." Shen Buyu struggled to pick up the green vegetables with her chopsticks.
"She ate it." Shen Yunqi glanced at Si Jingxu indifferently. "We can't spoil her like this. It'll cause health problems."
Si Jingxu was happy for someone to play the bad guy, "Yunqi, you eat too."
Shen Yunqi grinned, "What kind of brother-in-law is this?"
They've spoiled the kids way too much.
With a pained expression, Chen Buyu poked at the vegetables in front of him, picked them up and put them down again, finally taking a deep breath and bringing them to his mouth.
She had just taken a bite when a wave of nausea hit her, and she immediately gagged twice.
Because they were at the dinner table, she could only turn her head to the side and cover it with her hand.
"Silent? What's wrong?" Lan Xinyan noticed her daughter wasn't feeling well and immediately stood up to go over, her face full of worry. "Not feeling well?"
Ling Huiwen followed, "Why are Buyu's hands so cold? Are you cold?"
All eyes at the dinner table were on her.
Her face flushed slightly, and she waved her hand apologetically, "I'm fine, I probably just ate a little too much and my stomach is upset."
"Granddaughter-in-law, if you're not feeling well, go and rest. Grandpa isn't an old fogey; I won't watch the child suffer." Si Zhendong urged her to rest, afraid that the child would overthink things.
Shen Baohua nodded. "Go ahead, Buyu, go upstairs and rest for a while."
"I'm fine, really fine." Shen Buyu smiled and sat up. "I'm fine now."
She didn't want to spoil everyone's mood for the New Year's Eve dinner.
Seeing that she was really alright, the two mothers returned to their seats, but no one served her any more food.
After calming down, Chen Buyu set his sights on the braised prawns on the table.
While everyone was chatting, I secretly grabbed another one for myself.
Si Jingxu glanced at her, his brows furrowing slightly, but he said nothing.
"Jingxu, let's drink," Shen Yunqi raised his glass and came over, "Let's clink glasses."
"Yunqi, we're staying up all night to celebrate the New Year, so I won't drink." Si Jingxu picked up Shen Buyu's juice and clinked glasses with him. "I'll spend more time with you another day."
"Hey, we're not strangers, why should I keep you company? Drink if you want, don't drink if you don't." Shen Yunqi laughed and drank a cup himself.
After the meal, the two grandfathers left first, followed by the four elders.
The younger generation played cards, chatted, and played games together to celebrate the New Year.
Shen Buyu leaned on Si Jingxu's shoulder and dozed off again.
"Jingxu, take Buyu to bed." Song Jingyi looked at his little sister's head bobbing up and down and spoke softly.
Shen Yanzhou chimed in, "Let her sleep. Yunqi and I will stay up to welcome the New Year for Mom and Dad. Let her get some rest; she's been working too hard."
“Okay.” Si Jingxu didn’t hesitate; this was exactly what he wanted to say.
He picked up his wife horizontally and gently carried her upstairs.
When he arrived at the room, he looked at her sleeping face, his eyes filled with tenderness and a hint of worry.
On the first day of the Lunar New Year, Shen Buyu woke up to find Si Jingxu no longer by his side.
She sat up and saw something on the bedside table. She picked it up and took a look, then froze.
What is Si Jingxu preparing this for?
"Awake?" Si Jingxu brought over a glass of warm water. "Wife, why don't you go try it first, and then we'll go to the hospital for a check-up later?"
Shen Buyu turned around blankly, holding a pregnancy test in her hand, "Huh?"
Si Jingxu sat down next to her. "Your period is late. I thought it was because you were busy with work, but you are sleepy and greedy. I checked all night and it's highly likely, very likely."
"Uh," Shen Buyu's mind went blank. She only felt that she had been very tired lately and had been craving meat, but, "No way, so fast?"
"Let's test it first, okay?" Si Jingxu coaxed her gently.
Shen Buyu had no idea how he felt when he went into the restroom.
The two minutes of waiting felt incredibly long.
The moment the second red line appeared, her mind went completely blank.
"Silent, silent?" Si Jingxu knocked on the door.
She opened the door, her face grave. She looked up at him, met his worried eyes, and quickly lowered her head again.
"No reaction? Then it must be a stomach problem," Si Jingxu hugged her and coaxed her gently. "We'll have the doctor take a look when we get home. Just be careful what you eat these next few days."
Shen Buyu remained silent, slowly raising the pregnancy test in her hand. "Um... Brother Jingxu, it seems... it's not a stomach problem."
Si Jingxu didn't understand the meaning of the red line on the pregnancy test before.
But he didn't sleep all night and studied it for a long time.
Seeing the two red lines, he tried his best to calm himself down, but his slightly trembling hands betrayed him.
Shen Buyu thought he was calm, but now she realized he was faking it.
In that instant, she suddenly felt relieved; it seemed she wasn't the only one who was dazed and confused.
"Brother Jingxu?" Shen Buyu called him twice, but received no response. "Si Jingxu!"
"Ah." Si Jingxu snapped out of his daze. "Buyu, wife, baby, we..."
"Hey, it's nothing, don't be nervous," Shen Buyu patted his shoulder, "Young people should stay calm."
Si Jingxu ignored her teasing and looked at the pregnancy test again.
"I might be going to be a dad," he said.
“However, there’s a chance this won’t be accurate. Let’s not tell our family yet,” Shen Buyu thought for a while. “Let’s go to the hospital for a blood test first.”
Although neither set of parents said it, they were both looking forward to the arrival of a child.
Shen Buyu wanted to make them happy, but didn't want them to be disappointed.
Si Jingxu put down the pregnancy test and gently pulled Chen Buyu into his arms.
"Buyu, am I being too cowardly? I'm a little nervous." He said truthfully, "I... I'm sorry, Buyu. Are you feeling bad? How are you feeling?"
He was only thinking of himself and forgot to pay attention to her feelings immediately.
If it's true, what is her attitude towards this child, and what are her feelings?
"Ah, it's alright, it's alright. It's your first time, I understand." Shen Buyu patted his chest reassuringly. "I was also stunned for a while before I came out. Alright, let's go downstairs and have breakfast first, don't keep the elders waiting."
After calming themselves down, the two men went downstairs and found the two grandfathers chatting with another grandfather.
The parents' smiles widened as they saw them come down.
Lan Xinyan beckoned to Shen Buyu, "Buyu, come here."
Shen Buyu's brow twitched.
