Chapter 45 Let's A-Take a Step
Yan Buyu was practically dragged to the cafeteria entrance by Qin Nianke.
Why would someone with social anxiety like her make a friend who's socially adept?
Lu Yun's face flushed slightly, and she didn't know what to do with the milk tea she was holding.
"You...you guys are here? Just finished class?" He looked down at Yan Buyu.
Without saying a word, he replied succinctly, "Mm."
Qin Nianke and Xie Yi exchanged a glance and then discussed which hot pot base they wanted to choose.
The food in the third canteen is generally more expensive, and there aren't many students eating there, but there are plenty of seats.
I chose a four-person table near the air conditioner and sat down.
Yan Buyu and Qin Nianke sat on one side, with Lu Yun directly opposite her.
When the owner brought out the hot pot base, Xie Yi said with a smile, "Lu Yun, didn't you buy us milk tea? The ice is almost melted."
“Oh, yes,” Lu Yun quickly put the milk tea bag on the table and pushed it in front of Yan Buyu. “I didn’t know what you two liked to drink, so I asked the staff to make a few cups that girls usually drink. You two can choose first.”
"I'm fine with anything," Yan Buyu said politely.
Qin Nianke was different from her. She picked them up one by one and looked at them. "Hey, this one is good. Buyu likes this passion fruit one. How thoughtful. It's even half sweet."
Lu Yun glanced at Yan Buyu and smiled shyly.
After thanking him silently, he took it and glanced at Lu Yun.
He's not quite the person I remembered.
He used to talk a lot in the team, and he was quite fun joking around with the guys.
They don't talk much anymore.
Silent is typical of Virgos, an earth sign. When with unfamiliar people, they are aloof, quiet, and polite.
Qin Nian, who was beside him, was quite different.

Now only her and Xie Yi's voices remain on the table.

Xie Yi said with a smile, "It was a friendly match that was decided on the spur of the moment. I have a brother on the basketball team there. We were drinking together on Friday night, and we started chatting. The next day, we arranged to play together."
Qin Nianke said with some regret, "If I had known, I would have gone to cheer you on."
Yan Buyu knew where her regret lay.
Going to watch male PE students sweating profusely on the field is better than having dinner with a handsome young man and his boyfriend.

Lu Yun glared at him reproachfully, but quickly looked at Yan Buyu's reaction.
Turns out... she was busy cooking meat.

Xie Yi smiled at Qin Nianke, his tone flippant, "It might be soon."
He got goosebumps all over his body without saying a word.
She disliked Xie Yi; his words and actions were slick and unpleasant.
Qin Nianke didn't respond to him, and instead picked out the things she liked to eat and put them into the pot.
The meal was decent, and Lu Yun paid for it afterward.
After he entered his password, he noticed that Yan Buyu and Qin Nianke had both taken out their phones at the same time.
"What's wrong?" He looked at the calculator without saying a word.
"The total bill was 230. Let's split it, 57.50 each. Open your payment QR code, and Nianke and I will transfer the money to you." Yan Buyu said, opening WeChat.
Lu Yun put his phone away. "That won't do! I told you it was me who invited you to dinner."
“You didn’t say that,” Yan Buyu smiled at him. “You only said we’d have lunch together. And Nianke and I usually do this. When we go out to eat, we split the bill. If you don’t open your payment QR code, I’ll have to go out and exchange cash for you, which is a hassle.”
“Yes,” Qin Nianke said, also holding her phone. “We always do it this way, classmate, don’t break our rules.”
Xie Yi kept his head down replying to messages on his phone without uttering a sound.
Lu Yun was unwilling, but the two people opposite him insisted, so he slowly opened the payment code.
Yan Buyu and Qin Nianke tacitly transferred 100 yuan to him each.
“Too many.” Lu Yun frowned.
"Thank you for buying us the milk tea." Yan Buyu and Qin Nianke smiled at each other.
After the two girls left, Xie Yi looked up and said, "These two are pretty good. They're not gold diggers, and they even know how to skim money. So your meal only cost you thirty yuan. What a bargain!"
Lu Yun felt conflicted and uncomfortable, and hearing Xie Yi's words made her feel even worse.
"Aren't you going to give me an A?" He glanced at Xie Yi sideways.
Xie Yi was taken aback, his face darkening. "I only came because you invited me to dinner. I helped you liven things up. If it weren't for me, they wouldn't have eaten with you alone. Besides, they both gave you a hundred each, so you didn't lose out."
Lu Yun said in a flat tone, "Just kidding. I'm leaving. What are you doing this afternoon?"
Xie Yi was delighted when he heard that he wouldn't have to spend any money. "A girl asked me to go to the movies, but I probably won't be back tonight. Bye, bro."
Yan Buyu and Qin Nianke walked all the way to the classroom, and only when there was no one around did they start chirping crickets.
"That Xie Yi is so slick. You can't associate with him. If you do, I'll look down on you." Yan Buyu said sternly.
"Do you think I'm some naive fool who's never seen the world? I've been around a lot, there are plenty of muscular men out there, why would I choose a rotten cucumber?" Qin Nianke retorted with equal disdain.
"Why is it a rotten cucumber? What did you find? Tell me." Yan Buyu looked on with a gossipy expression.
