Chapter 288 I Won't Recognize You
Song Shuchen arrived uninvited, seemingly oblivious to the impatience on others' faces.
“Oh, my son is here too, isn’t that a coincidence?” Song Shuchen looked at Shen Zhiye. “Zhiye, I just bought two bottles of good wine and wanted to come over and try them with you.”
Shen Zhiye felt both sorry for him and hate him.
When I was young, I didn't care about my children. Now that I'm older, I realize I want the affection of my children.
Lan Xinyan subtly observed Song Jingyi's expression.
The child's face was strangely dark and frightening; he definitely didn't call Song Shuchen here.
She glanced at her daughter again; her little darling looked indifferent, pondering which dumpling to eat first.
"Since you're here, please have a seat. Aunt Jiang, bring a high chair and some cutlery." Lan Xinyan patted Shen Zhiye's hand. "The child is hungry."
No matter how much of a scoundrel Song Shuchen is, he is still related to his daughter by blood.
In addition, we also have to give Song Jingyi face.
Thanks to her children's influence, she finally got a seat at the dining table in the Shen family home.
Song Shuchen didn't think much of it.
His consistent belief is that he'll do anything to get what he wants, no matter the method.
He's the kind of person who'll stop at nothing.
But half an hour later, he started to feel awkward.
Everyone at the table, except for him, was enjoying themselves like a family.
They chatted and laughed, looking out for each other.
Even his eldest son, who never gets along with anyone, had a smile on his face.
It was a sight he had never seen before.
His daughter, gentle and cheerful, remembers the preferences of everyone at the table.
They managed to make Shen Zhiye and his wife very happy.
Daughters and sons are definitely different; daughters know how to be obedient, sweet, and tell jokes.
How wonderful! Such a lovely girl is his.
"Buyu," Song Shuchen coughed lightly after being ignored for a while, "I brought you some gifts, see if you like them later."
“No need, Mr. Song,” Yan Buyu said with a polite smile. “If I accept your gift, my hands will be too short, and I’ll have to figure out how to return the favor, which is too much trouble. So let’s just skip that process.”
It was different from what Song Shuchen had imagined.
“It’s just a small thing, nothing to worry about returning the favor,” Song Shuchen added. “It’ll all be yours sooner or later anyway.”
Yan Buyu remained unchanged, saying, "Whether something is valuable or not is not up to you, Mr. Song. Everything has a price. You said we don't need to give a return gift, but my family's upbringing doesn't allow that."
Shen Zhiye was overjoyed.
The child's gentle retort left Song Shuchen speechless.
He really wanted to open a bottle of champagne.
Song Shuchen wanted to continue persuading him.
Song Jingyi looked over coldly, "My sister doesn't need that junk, don't bother, not everyone can be appeased with a little money."
Song Shuchen's face darkened.
He knew who Song Jingyi was talking about.
When Meng Qingzhi went home with that child, he was annoyed, but in order to please his wife, he kept buying things for the child.
He has plenty of money anyway, so he doesn't care.
But……
How can that child be compared to the one in front of me?
Besides, he carefully selected all the gifts.
"Brother Jingyi, this beef is super delicious," Yan Buyu called out to him.
When Song Jingyi looked at his sister, his expression softened considerably. "Okay, I'll give it a try."
This was the first time Song Shuchen had ever been treated so coldly.
But he was quite happy.
His daughter has a bit of a temper.
Song Shuchen's appearance did not affect the Shen family's banquet.
The family continued with their lives as usual, treating him as if he were invisible.
After dinner, the whole family prepared to watch TV for a while, but Song Shuchen showed no sign of leaving.
"Shuchen, it's too late, there's not enough room at home, so we won't keep you any longer." Shen Zhiye stepped forward to shoo him away.
"Zhiye, can I speak to the child alone for a moment?" Song Shuchen stood up.
"It's too late, the child should go to sleep, he's growing." Shen Zhiye was reluctant to speak.
"Jingyi-ge," Yan Buyu leaned close to Song Jingyi, tilted his head up, and asked in a low voice, "If I go to the courtyard with him to talk, is it possible for him to steal me away?"
Song Jingyi looked down; his younger sister's eyes were bright and she was incredibly cute.
“No way, we have people outside,” Song Jingyi replied in a low voice. “If you’re worried, I’ll go with you and keep an eye on things from a distance.”
"Okay." Yan Buyu nodded.
“I only have ten minutes. My TV series is about to start.” Yan Buyu walked up to Song Shuchen. “And my brothers will be watching me from a distance.”
"Okay, okay." Song Shuchen said "okay" several times in a row, with a smile on his face. The girl was willing to talk to him, which was the best thing.
Yan Buyu followed Song Shuchen into the courtyard. "Mr. Song, please sit down."
Then she plopped down in the chair.
"No words." Song Shuchen sat down and called her name, but then didn't know what to say.
He wanted to ask if the child was alright, and if the Shen family treated her well.
But now it seems like nonsense.
She was clearly from a wealthy family; her eyes and brows radiated confidence.
Everyone at the dinner table was happy, but a closer look revealed that everyone was actually revolving around her.
She is the center, the source of happiness for everyone.
Without her, this family wouldn't be so lively.
“If Mr. Song has nothing to say, then let me speak,” Yan Buyu said without looking at him, staring at the lawn that had just been mowed. “I will not acknowledge you, nor will I go with you. I don’t want your things, and I don’t care about your money or possessions, nor do I lack them.”
“I don’t have a good reputation; I offended quite a few people when I was younger.” Song Shuchen looked at his daughter’s profile. “Did someone say bad things about me to you?”
"Let me ask you a few questions," Yan Buyu said, looking at him. "Is that alright?"
Meeting his daughter's bright eyes, Song Shuchen nodded almost unconsciously.
“Jingyi has lived with his maternal grandmother since birth. You only provided him with money, but you didn’t care about him at all, right?”
Song Shuchen tacitly agreed.
"Grandma passed away, and Jingyi didn't even get to see you one last time before he was sent to Russia to work as a mercenary, right?"
The default setting remains unchanged.
"How many scars does he have? How much suffering has he endured? This little child was being bullied, where were you? Did you stand up for him? That scar on his chest looks fatal. When he was lying in the hospital bed, did you even visit him once?"
A series of questions were about Song Jingyi.
"Are you standing up for your brother?" Song Shuchen looked at Yan Buyu. "He's a man, so he should grow up like this. I'm the same."
In their line of work, how can one gain respect without honing their willpower and physical strength, and without outstanding abilities and skills?
“I don’t care. My two older brothers are doing very well now. Neither of them were raised like that.” Yan Buyu ignored his twisted logic. “Besides, care and training are not mutually exclusive. If you ignore him, don’t call it growth.”
That kind of growth, whoever wants it can have it.
It's only because Jingyi has a strong mentality that he was able to handle it; anyone else would have gone crazy long ago.
