Chapter 124: The First Expedition of the Chusheng

After five busy days, the "Chusheng" officially set out to sea for the first time.

There were 32 crew members on this voyage, including Qiao Shan, a guy who knew nothing, who pretended to be a crew member. He also left three people at home to act as bodyguards. He did not bring any female family members with him. With only three men and three women as six bodyguards at home, it seemed that nothing serious would happen.

Having said that, if there really was something that the six of them couldn't handle, they wouldn't surrender quietly. This would give Yao Meifang enough time to find someone to help delay and resolve the situation.

Since this was her first time sailing in the ocean, Yu Shengnan didn't plan to go too far. She just wanted to explore the high seas near the motherland's territorial waters.

The main purpose of this trip is to allow everyone to adapt to deep-sea navigation, which can also be said to be the first formal training.

These crew members had previously served in various military branches, which was just right for them to get used to their current work content.

There were two people on the boat who were good at cooking. One was a short and fat man named Guo Zhuang, who was from Sichuan, and the other was a thin man named Feng Buping, who was from Hangzhou.

Guo Zhuang used to work in the army's kitchen squad. His specialty is authentic Sichuan cuisine, and he is also good at other Hunan and Shandong cuisine. He is also very good at making hot pot base. He has worked in five-star hotels before, but he doesn't like to be constrained and is too willful in cooking. He was fired from several restaurants for wasting too much food.

Feng Buping wasn't from the military; he was Zhao Lei's cousin. His family used to run a restaurant near West Lake, but it was a mobile operation, without a fixed location. They had to run whenever the urban management came. Although his family restaurant wasn't formal, his Hangzhou, Shanghai, and even Cantonese cuisine were all excellent. What Yu Shengnan liked about him was that, because of his business background, he could cook both Northeastern and Beijing cuisine, and he did it quite well. His specialty was barbecue.

"Brother Nan, why do I feel a little dizzy?" Qiao Shan came over and said to Yu Shengnan.

Xu Shengnan was watching Meng Kechuang carefully as he drove the boat home. The last time they drove the boat home, the boat didn't run at all. This time, it actually drove for an hour, which showed the stability of the big boat.

"Uh, what did you just say?" Yu Shengnan was still recalling the entire driving process in her mind and didn't pay much attention to what Qiao Shan said.

After realizing that Qiao Shan was feeling a little dizzy, I realized that everyone’s reaction was coming.

"Don't worry, I've prepared some medicine. Put one in your mouth and then don't look at the sea. If you feel too uncomfortable, go back to the rest cabin and lie down. You'll be fine after you recover. You're probably not the only one like this."

Yu Shengnan turned around and took a bottle, then opened it and stuffed a small pill into Qiao Shan's mouth. The pill was not big but very pungent. When Qiao Shan put it in his mouth, he immediately felt his head lighten.

"Go back to the rest cabin and lie down for a while. I'll go down and take a look." Yu Shengnan went down to the deck and saw that there were indeed many people who were seasick. Some of them had even jumped into the sea at the railing.

Yu Shengnan shouted, asking those who felt unwell to get their pills, and then go back to the rest cabin to rest and come out after they felt better.

If it's too serious, just vomit it out. Once it's all vomited out, there's nothing more to vomit and then you can take medicine.

Many people may think that I don’t get seasick, but many people will have this reaction when they go to the deep sea for the first time.

It's different from riding a boat at the seaside, or sailing a small boat out to sea. You may say you've adapted to not getting seasick, but you might still get seasick when you're on a large ship out to the deep sea. The reason is psychological.

A ship as big as their "Chusheng" has been sailing for an hour. At this moment, the ship is already in the waters of the Dongsha Islands. The waves on the sea are obviously much bigger. When you stand on the ship and look around, you can see endless sea water.

The seawater under the boat has begun to enter the dark area, and it is obvious that the water below is very deep. If the people on the boat have some foresight about their environment, they will be filled with fear. People with poor psychological quality will have an uncomfortable reaction, which will manifest as seasickness.

However, this reaction is easy to deal with. As long as you overcome the first wave and adapt to it, you will not experience seasickness later. To put it bluntly, this is caused by fear, not real seasickness.

"Let's try the next net." The boat had been sailing for two hours. It started out slowly, and later reached a maximum speed of 23 knots. It was already nearly 80 kilometers away from the land.

Although it is still near the coast, it is already in the deep water area near the coast. Yu Shengnan's 30-meter external coverage is really not very effective. But it doesn't matter. There is a fish finder on the boat, and it can still detect whether there are fish in front. But they can only rely on luck to find out what kind of fish it is.

The principle of trawling operation is to use the movement of the fishing vessel to drag the net forward on the seabed or in the sea water, forcing fish, shrimp, crabs and other fishing objects into the net bag, thereby achieving the purpose of fishing.

So trawling does not mean that you can catch fish immediately after you cast the net. You lower the net into the water and then drag the boat forward. The more fish you encounter, the more fish will be caught in the net.

A trawl is a mobile, filtering fishing gear typically consisting of a net, ropes, and accessories. The net includes wings, a cover, a body, and a bag; the lines include floats, sinkers, hollows, hand lines, pull lines, bag ties, lead lines, and haul lines; and the accessories include net plates, floats, and more.

During operation, the fishing boat moves forward in the water by dragging the net. The net plates generate expansion force under the action of the water flow, keeping the net mouth open.

As the fishing boat moves, the catch is forcibly dragged into the net. The trawl typically moves at a speed of 3-5 nautical miles per hour, with the net being hauled up approximately every three hours.

Following Yu Shengnan's order, the speed of "Chu Sheng" quickly slowed down, and the crew began to cooperate with the machine at the stern to lower the net.

The Chusheng boat was well-equipped, and it was practically impossible to get too many people to help with the net. Even with fewer people, four people could operate it. But since it was everyone's first time, they were all crowded together at the stern, with those who were used to it learning and those who weren't.

This was a mistake made by Yu Shengnan. When it comes to choosing crew members, these veterans are fine, but there is not a single experienced crew member who has actually served on a trawler, which made the people working behind in a state of chaos.

Fortunately, the tablet that Yu Shengnan brought on board contained a large number of videos on how to operate a trawler, which everyone had seen before. Otherwise, it would have been hard to say what would have happened.

The reason why we brought so many crew members is that their most important job is actually to sort the seafood. When a net of seafood is pulled up, there will be everything in it, and that is when these crew members start to work hard.

The second reason for choosing so many veterans as crew members is to prevent pirates. The ship has not yet reached the high seas. If it really reaches the high seas, what should we do if we encounter pirate robbery?
